Oprah Winfrey's apology over the racism flap she caused by recalling a trip to Switzerland in a recent interview has been criticized by some as inauthentic.

Earlier this week, she said she was "sorry" for fallout that ensued after she told ET about a racist encounter at a purse store in the European country.

The Butler star made the allegations (above) when asked about a time she encountered racism personally - in Switzerland, where no one knows her.

She claimed a shop owner refused to even show her a ridiculously expensive purse, assuming she could not afford it, presumably because she's black.

The COUNTRY of Switzerland apologized, while the shop owner says the whole thing was a "misunderstanding" and had "nothing to do with racism."

Oprah Winfrey says she's "sorry" for the media frenzy she triggered after she said in an interview that she experienced racism during a trip to Switzerland.

The talk show queen said she never intended this to be a big story:

"I think that incident in Switzerland was just an incident in Switzerland. I'm really sorry that it got blown up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store."

"I'm sorry that I said it was Switzerland. I was just referencing it as an example of being in a place where people don't expect that you would be able to be there."

Winfrey recalled in a sit-down with ET that a clerk at an upscale Zurich boutique once refused to show her a handbag, unaware of who she was.

Oprah is not holding back in her upcoming interview with Lindsay Lohan.

Fans got a sneak peek at the highly anticipated exclusive post-rehab sit-down earlier this month, and now a second, longer promo offers more of the same.

And by that, we mean Winfrey TAKING IT to LiLo with questions like:

  • "Do you think you are addicted to chaos?"
  • "What's going to be different this time?"
  • "When you get the first DUI, is that a wake-up call?"
  • "What's it like to be the poster child for 'child star gone wrong?'"
  • "What do you know about yourself now that you wish you'd known six rehabs ago?"

Ouch.

Both Oprah Winfrey and former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom honor from President Barack Obama.

The White House confirmed the awards on Thursday.

The medal is America's highest civilian honor. Bradlee led The Post to its peak during the Watergate years, still considered the high water mark for journalism.

Oprah Winfrey is, well, Oprah. A woman who needs no introduction.

“Good God, how fabulous,” Bradlee told the Post. “What more can a man get? I feel terribly honored. What does a person do to deserve this kind of prize?”

The Post, meanwhile, is being sold to Jeff Bezos for $250 million.

Oprah, meanwhile, is starring in The Butler and making headlines for everything from her comments on Paula Deen and race to her mentoring of Lindsay Lohan.

Oprah Winfrey befriended Paula Deen in early 2012 and even spent a night at Deen's Georgia home, where she conducted a wide-ranging interview.

Over a year later, in a deposition for a lawsuit, Deen admitted using racial slurs in the past, a revelation that rankled many, including her friend.

Until now, Winfrey had remained silent on her friend's controversy, but addressed it this week during a sit-down of her own for her new film The Butler.

"In the very first days I tried to reach her and then I decided to stay out of it as I saw it blowing up," Winfrey told ET this week. "In time she will be fine."

"For me, it all just felt kind of sad."

Lindsay Lohan called off her planned European vacation thanks to a little advice from Oprah Winfrey, who convinced her she would relapse if she did so.

LiLo booked a one-way ticket across the Atlantic while still in rehab, planning to reward a successful stint in treatment with a vacation in the old country.

The actress pulled the plug, though, following her sit-down with O.

Winfrey, who will interview Lindsay August 18 and is also planning to do a post-rehab documentary series later this month, advised the star against it.

She would face certain failure if she traveled, she argued, at this point in her recovery. Astonishingly, LiLo listened and is staying in NYC with family instead.

Oprah Winfrey rocks a giant afro wig - weighing an impressive three and a half pounds - on the September 2013 cover of O, The Oprah Magazine.

That's what we call a hair-raising look ... get it??!!

Oprah Winfrey Afro Wig

"I wish I could say it was all mine. In fact, though, it's borrowed. And it feels like carrying around an extra head," Winfrey reveals. "My own hair is shorter."

"It's not quite so spherical, and a lot lighter. But that doesn't mean it never gives me grief. When it comes to hair, I'm in the same boat as most other women."

"The way we feel about hair is universal: We love it when it looks great, we can't stand it when it looks not so great, and we want it to tell the world something about us."

Fresh off her well-received Chelsea Lately guest-hosting gig, Lindsay Lohan is coming to Oprah's Next Chapter for her first post-rehab interview.

A tease of the August 18 special was released yesterday. Check it out:

"Are you an addict?" asks Oprah sternly, followed by "What does it feel like to be both and adjective and a verb for child star gone wrong?"

Ouch. It remains to be seen how LiLo will respond, but ouch.

Lindsay can have the last laugh, of course, if she makes good on her supposed claim to be alcohol-free forever and commitment to living a sober life.

So far, so good ... for an entire WEEK!

Oprah's OWN network will also follow the former child star for an eight-episode docu-series, so the world will be watching if the sixth trip to rehab doesn't take.

Think she can stay clean?

Oprah Winfrey has strong feelings about the n-word, which recently came up in scandals involving Paula Deen, Riley Cooper and of course Rae Dawn Chong.

Rae Dawn recently used the n-word in talking about Oprah herself. While Winfrey hasn't responded to her comments, she tells Parade in a new interview:

"You cannot be my friend and use that word around me."

"It shows my age, but I feel strongly about it ... I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last word as they were hanging from a tree."

"I don't use the word. Never did."
