IT'S NIALL HORAN'S BIRTHDAY!

Yes, the man who is unafraid to Twerk in concert is now 20 years old, having come a very long way since his days as a child in County Westmeath, Ireland.

The Butler was no match for the boy band.

After a strong opening day showing at the box office, One Direction continued to dominate on Saturday and Sunday, racking up $17 million in total profits and finishing the holiday weekend as the top film in all the land.

Harry Styles and company easily out-earned Katy Perry: Part of Me, which only brought in $7.3 in its opening few days, although the young singers could not toppled Justin Bieber and his opening mark of $29 million food Never Say Never.

This just in: people really, really like One Direction.

The band's latest concert film, This Is Us, blew past the competition on Friday, taking in $8.9 on its first day of release.

The mark places this documentary-type movie above the opening gross of Michael Jackson’s This Is It ($7.4 million), though it trails Justin Bieber: Never Say Never ($12.4 million).

One Direction, of course, already dominates the music scene, having recently collected an MTV Video Music Award for Song of the Summer and owning the VEVO record for most video views in a 24-hour period.

We'll update the total gross tomorrow, but here's a look at the top five money makes from the first day of this holiday weekend:

Enough with the Taylor Swift controversy.

Let's forget that awkward booing for a moment.

And that Miley Cyrus Video Music Awards performance? Unimpressive, but irrelevant at the moment.

One Direction took to the America's Got Talent stage last night and made it all about the music, belting out a version of "Best Song Ever" in front of such an enthusiastic crowd that it basically turned into a sing-along. Watch the boys do their cute thing now:

And for more One Direction fun, relive the official music video below for "Best Song Ever."

Miley Cyrus isn't the only singer receiving backlash for her behavior at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Taylor Swift pretty clearly dissed Harry Styles on two occasions at the ceremony, once getting caught telling him to shut the eff up in a conversation with Selena Gomez... and then calling him out in public when accepting the award for Best Female Video.

"I want to thank the person that inspired this song, and he knows exactly who he is," Swift said on stage of "I Knew You Were Trouble," as the camera then cut to One Direction in the crowd.

Asked about the incident at the New York premiere of their concert film, This Is Us, Styles' bandmates stood up for their pal, with Liam Payne giving especially pointed remarks to reporters.

They may have have won Best Song of the Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the celebration was short-lived for One Direction last night.

The British boy band was actually booed on stage.

But at least the insulting reception from the crowd in Brooklyn resulted in a cool backstage meeting for Harry Style (who was himself told to STFU up by Taylor Swift) and company, as Lady Gaga actually made a point to seek them out and offer her support.

“I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have," Gaga tells One Direction in the following video. It's pretty cool.

Rihanna and One Direction's response - or lack thereof - to Miley Cyrus' VMA performances may have been highlight of the entire pop music Super Bowl.

If you missed it, the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards will best be remembered for Miley Cyrus Twerking, wearing latex underwear and grinding on Robin Thicke.

Not necessarily remembered in a good way, though. While the 20-year-old wild child was performing, the camera panned to the crowd. And found this:

Rihanna, One Direction Watch Miley Cyrus

Rihanna and the five young men of One Direction, who were sitting near each other inside the Barclays Center, were not impressed to say the least.

RiRi's blank expression said it all, while Harry Styles' furrowed brow was equally classic. We'd wager that they spoke for most of the viewing public.

After all, it's not everyday you see a former Disney star Twerking in pigtails and a onesie, slapping butts and molesting a 36-year-old married father.

Rihanna and 1D are holding up okay, but we're just waiting for the class action PTSD lawsuit against Miley from those feeling victimized by this display.

Forget Video of the Year or Best Collaboration.

Miley Cyrus won the unofficial trophy for Most Ridiculous at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, thanks to her stuffed bear and foam finger-based performance of "We Can't Stop."

And Taylor Swift clearly took home the title of Most Bitter Ex-Girlfriend, as cameras actually captured the singer turning to BFF Selena Gomez when ex-boyfriend Harry Styles was on stage with his bandmates and saying four simple words:

Shut. The. F-ck. Up.

Yes, it's clear Taylor has some pent up anger at Styles.

Perhaps she should write a song about it - which he says he's already anticipating. Watch the following GIF for to assess Swift's apparent response on repeat:

Zayn Malik has taken to Twitter and acknowledged the exciting news that broke earlier this week:

He's engaged Perrie Edwards!

Zayn Malik on Today

“Never been more happy in my life!" the One Direction member wrote. “Thank you to everyone that has been so lovely about my engagement to my beautiful fiancé ! Big love z X."

Malik has not faced the sort of backlash that has come down on Liam Payne and his new girlfriend, Sophia Smith, as Payne was forced respond rudely a couple days ago to fans that were being total jerks to Smith on Twitter.

One Direction has set another record.

The boy band, who holds the mark for most VEVO video views in 24 hours, performed this morning on Today in front of what Matt Lauer described as "the biggest crowd" the show has ever had in its plaza.

Watch them make 18,000 spectators scream with a rendition of "What Makes You Beautiful."

It's been an eventful week for the One Direction members.

Zayn Malik got engaged to Perrie Edwards, while Liam Payne defended Sophia Smith and told off haters online who gave his new girlfriend a hard time.
