Trailing in public opinion polls for months despite a half-dozen Mel Gibson rants that paint the star as a bona fide crackpot, Oksana Grigorieva is on the attack.

Mel's estranged baby mama bailed on Oprah, but is opening up to People, going into even greater detail about the abuse and threats she accuses him of.

Specifically, Oksana talks in detail about the argument earlier this year, during which she says Mel Gibson hit her in the face while as she held daughter Lucia.

ISSUES: Mel Gibson's got plenty of 'em in the anger department. But is he really an abusive maniac, or is Oksana Grigorieva just trying to slander and extort him?

"I thought he would kill me," says Oksana Grigorieva, flatly.

Gibson, who declined to comment for this story, has disputed her account and a source close to him has said he intervened when she was shaking the baby.

The Russian-born musician says the silver screen legend often flew into jealous rages, talking about suicide and even brandishing a handgun in front of her.

Mel Gibson's estranged, money-hungry baby mama, Oksana Grigorieva, won't be doing the Oprah Winfrey Show after all. Reasons for her change of heart are conflicting.

A recent CNN report claims it's because a judge gagged her, but according to TMZ, which is all over this story like Mel on a Marlboro Light, OG's lawyers nixed it.

There's a report that Judge Scott Gordon ordered Oksana to pull the plug on Oprah, but this is untrue. Rather, it was Anne Kiley, her family lawyer, who objected.

O-NO! Grigorieva won't be taking her PR show to Winfrey's.

Grigorieva, who accuses Mel Gibson of threatening, beating and otherwise mistreating her, has stepped up her public attacks of late. This was to be the latest effort.

Daniel Horowitz, who's handling her PR offensive against Mel, arranged the interview and obviously wanted her to do it. Oksana did too, but later deferred to Kiley.

Which is probably for the best, for everyone except viewers. We were looking forward to seeing Oksana on Oprah, bashing Mel and shilling for her bad music career.

Oksana Grigorieva's secret Mel Gibson tapes have been the source of controversy, not to mention an extortion probe. But she says her little sister didn't do it.

Mel's estranged baby mama admits Natalie Grigorieva was indeed in possession of the Mel Gibson recordings, but could not have been the leak to Radar Online.

Sources close to Oksana say she gave her younger sister the taped Mel Gibson rants of February 19, the day he went absolutely bat$h!t insane on the phone.

She says she thought Mel was going to kill her and wanted someone to have evidence. But sources say of the 10 Mel Gibson tapes, Natalie received only nine.

Oksana claims Natalie never had the tape where Mel says, "You look like a f**king pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of ni**ers it will be your fault."

Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva are at odds over everything. Child support for their daughter Lucia is no exception. She just got a huge pay raise, too.

The amount of $20,000 a month (she sought double that) is four times the amount Mel was paying. But why does an 11-month-old possibly need that?

Think about it, it's like a $240,000 salary. Team Oksana says it's more than fair, however, and has a list of reasons why she deserves every cent of it ...

Oksana Grigorieva had been angling to score more money from Mel Gibson - what else is new - for some time, but yesterday, a judge actually sided with her.

In regard to child support, at least.

Mel's estranged baby mama nabbed $15,000 more a month, upping her total monthly intake to $20,000, after the judge in their child custody case ordered it.

All I have are $10s and $20s ...

Oksana, who will appear on Oprah in the near future, is launching a full scale offensive against the actor, with PR and legal campaigns left and right in recent weeks.

Judge Scott Gordon issued an order Thursday, upping Mel Gibson's child support from $5,000 to $20,000 a month. Oksana Grigorieva had sought $40,000 a month.

Still ... $20,000 a month is basically a $240,000 salary to be the full-time mother of an infant. Not a bad life. To think, she could have just taken that $15 million ...

It's hard to hate the recipient of threats and sickeningly vile rants from a bona fide crazy person, but Oksana Grigorieva is doing her best to defy the odds.

The Mel Gibson rants she taped are what they are. Profoundly disturbing.

But her smear campaign and possible extortion of the actor is obliterating her image. Oksana Grigorieva's latest claim? That Mel "dropped" their baby daughter Lucia after leaving her alone and going out for a cigarette at his Malibu home.

Team Mel? Team Oksana? Team I Abstain?

Mel's no saint, but it's hard to believe a word out of this woman's mouth at the same time. Her motives and credibility are highly questionable at best.

The shocking charge was made during the Russian musician's deposition in their bitter court battle over custody of the child, now nine moths of age.

Oksana Grigorieva told Mel's lawyer, Michael Kretzmer, that Lucia needed to see a doctor "because Mel dropped her and she needed (a) chiropractor."

"I ran downstairs and he already picked her up and told me that he did something stupid," Oksana testified in the August 2 deposition, under oath.

Oksana Grigorieva wasn't kidding about a PR offensive.

Oprah Winfrey has landed a coveted TV interview with Mel Gibson's estranged source of baby mama drama and domestic abuse allegations, edging out 60 Minutes.

Winfrey's production company, Harpo, apparently struck a deal with Team Oksana on Tuesday. There's no telling what the nut job will say on the popular program.

"Oksana has a very powerful story to share, from emigrating to the United States from Russia, her marriage with Timothy Dalton, her music career and a volatile relationship with Mel Gibson," an insider says, regarding the upcoming Oprah interview.

Let's be honest with ourselves here. Yes, Mel Gibson is a jackass and bona fide lunatic who should be locked up if he really did any of the things Oksana alleges.

But this woman is no saint herself. Quite the contrary, in fact.

In addition to the domestic violence investigation of Gibson, police are also probing Oksana to determine if she's guilty of extortion. Criminal or not, she is shady.

By negotiating to pay Oksana Grigorieva and destroy the infamous Mel Gibson tapes, the actor and his legal team were merely trying to safeguard his reputation.

That's according to sources who refute claims by Grigorieva that Mel sought to buy her off and bury evidence of domestic violence during their mediation in May.

When they agreed to pay Oksana Grigorieva and daughter Lucia around $15 million in return for the destruction of "evidence," his image was the only concern.

Oksana, who faces an extortion investigation over this, claims the mediation was not binding because lawyers cannot agree to destroy the evidence of a crime.

The alleged abuse photo of a battered Oksana was not part of the deal, however, and neither Mel or his lawyers thought domestic violence was even an issue.

Mel's team claims Team Oksana made it very clear that the $15 million was a payout to keep the racist, misogynistic and generally insane rants by Mel secret.

The photos were not included as part of the "evidence." If Mel was trying to cover up an attack on her, why didn't he insist that Oksana hand over the photos?

Oksana Grigorieva signed a child custody agreement in May which spelled out as plain as day that Mel Gibson was entitled to unsupervised contact with their daughter Lucia and would have joint legal and physical custody of her.

She has since disavowed this May 16 agreement, claiming she was unaware that it gave the actor unsupervised contact with the baby, born in late 2009.

It's a strange claim, given that the custody agreement laid out in great detail the schedule for custody, down to the day and the hour, plus all legalities.

It was a Father's Day visitation plan laid out in this agreement that sent the whole case into family court, when Oksana refused to let Mel have the baby.

Sources connected with Oksana Grigorieva say the agreement she signed with Mel was illegal, because it allegedly involved the destruction of evidence.
