Miss America Nina Davuluri was recently interrupted during a Q&A session at a Pennsylvania high school with a prom invite from senior Patrick Farve.

Presenting her with a flower and a very public invitation to his senior prom, Patrick earned smiles from Nina and a roar from classmates in the auditorium.

The administration was furious with Farve's stunt, however.

When Patrick decided to make his "promposal" to Miss America in front of his entire high school, getting suspended was the furthest thing from his mind.

Like any teen, he saw it as harmless and comical. School officials heard about it in advance and warned him not to go through with the stunt, however.

Patrick was suspended as a result of proceeding as planned.

Nina Davuluri, who was crowned Miss America earlier this month, was asked for her take on the deluge of racist Tweets that followed her surprise win.

Her take on it:

  1. Depressingly, she saw it coming, as she dealt with the same thing winning Miss New York earlier this year (succeeding Mallory Hagan).
  2. The vocal critics might get all the headlines, but for every negative Tweet, she received many more positive and supportive messages.

Nina Davuluri says she can't dwell on the haters. Nor should she.

She's freaking Miss America after all, so some people must like her - and again, she said the online hate paled in comparison to the love she received.

What kind of hating are we talking about? As bad as it gets.

Nina Davuluri of Syracuse, N.Y., is your Miss America 2014.

Striving to become the first Indian-American Miss America, she pitched herself as the "diverse" contestant from the get-go and stuck to that theme.

Nina Davuluri danced to a Bollywood song in the talent portion even though insiders reportedly warned her the performance would be "too foreign."

The risk paid off, clearly. She won, succeeding Mallory Hagan.

While plenty of the usual racist idiots took to Twitter to decry Davuluri's win with disturbing ignorance, most reactions online were happy and congratulatory.

The irony, however, at least according to Indian and Indian-American writers, is that Davuluri, who is dark-skinned, may have fared less well in India.

Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri is brushing off the deluge of racist Tweets that followed her win last night, while denying that she bashed her predecessor.

Many of the tweets were attacks on the fact that Nina, 24, is the first woman of Indian-American descent to win the pageant and wear the crown.

She was referred to as "the Arab," or "the terrorist," or "Miss 7-11" by some, with commenters pointing out "This is America, not India" and so forth.

If it's bothering her at all, Nina Davuluri isn't showing it.

"I have to rise above that," said the former Miss New York and native of Syracuse, N.Y. "I always viewed myself as first and foremost American."

"I'm so happy this organization has embraced diversity," she said. "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America."

Nina Davuluri, Miss America 2014, became the first Indian-American winner of the coveted tiara Sunday night, and the racist reactions quickly followed.

During the question part of the pageant, the 24-year-old was asked by Carla Hall about Julie Chen's plastic surgery to make her eyes less Asian.

"I don't agree with plastic surgery, however I can understand that from a standpoint ... I've always viewed Miss America as the girl next door," she said.

"Miss America is always evolving... I wouldn't want to change someone's looks. Be confident in who you are," Nina Davuluri added, and went on to win.

She praised the pageant for celebrating diversity, but right after the tiara was placed atop her head, a deluge of racist tweets began to flood the Internet.

"If you're #Miss America you should have to be American," said one.

"WHEN WILL A WHITE WOMAN WIN #MISSAMERICA? Ever??!!" screamed another, seemingly unaware that Mallory Hagan was the reigning winner.

Nina Davuluri was crowned Miss America 2014!

The 24-year-old Miss New York, whose talent routine was a Bollywood fusion dance, became the first Indian-American pageant queen to win the Miss America tiara.

She is the second consecutive Miss New York to win the Miss America crown, succeeding Mallory Hagan, who was selected in January in Las Vegas.

The Miss America Organization will compensate Hagan, also 24, for her shortened reign at the top after the group changed its venue and schedule.

Interestingly, a report surfaced just a few days ago in which Nina Davuluri was allegedly recorded calling Mallory Hagan "fat as f--k" in a hotel room.

Whatever the case, she's succeeding her now.

Miss New York Nina Davuluri is under fire after she was reportedly caught on tape calling the reigning Miss America, Mallory Hagan, fat as ... expletive.

According to Page Six, another beauty queen recorded Davuluri blasting Hagan, who was Miss New York a year ago before winning the Miss America crown.

Nina Davuluri allegedly made the comments in a hotel room after being named the Empire State's top beauty pageant queen on July 16 on Staten Island.

"Davuluri invited friends back to her hotel room after her win," a source said.

"A girl in the next room overheard the conversation, and was so offended she decided to tape it. A friend of Davuluri's was supposedly heard making racist remarks."

"Davuluri is allegedly heard on the tape blasting Miss America, ‘Mallory's fat as f--k.' The [tape] has been making the rounds of pageant contestants and officials."
