If tension equates to ratings, American Idol may shatter a few records this season.

During a taping of early Season 12 auditions in Charlotte yesterday, production slammed to a halt when Nicki Minaj WENT OFF on Mariah Carey - and portions of the incident are caught on tape!

It's been two days since Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban were confirmed as American Idol judges on Season 12.

And there's already talk of contention among panelists.

American Idol Team

According to show sources, Mariah Carey was peeved from the outset over Minaj possibly joining the judging table, considering the outspoken rapper would give the pop legend a run for her diva-like money.

Asked by reporters yesterday about the supposed tension between her and Minaj, Carey dismissed the chatter, saying: "How can we feud in two days? I think a feud takes a little longer."

Nicki didn't have anything negative to say about Mariah, either, labeling her very brief Idol experience - which includes a couple hours of auditions - so far as "wonderful."

Concluded Randy Jackson: "We're having fun, dude. We've been having a good time. There has been a lot of laughs."

Well... darn. Where's the gossip related fun in that?!?

The rumor mill can finally stop churning: American Idol has announced its four-person judging panel for Season 12.

Fox announced via press release this morning that Randy Jackson will return again to the ratings juggernaut, joining previously-confirmed Mariah Carey and the two leading contenders over the past few weeks:

Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

“Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop. And Keith is another great addition to Idol – he’s one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox.

“With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan [Seacrest], we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.”

Do you agree? How do you feel about this quartet?

The economy. The war in Afghanistan. Nicki Minaj.

Barack Obama tackled all the important issues this morning during a radio interview with Orlando radio station Power 95.3.

Asked about Minaj's supposed endorsement of Mitt Romney - she rapped in a verse from "Mercy" that "I’m a Republican" - Obama sounded rather confident that his Presidential opponent doesn't actually have the vote of this rumored American Idol judge.

“I’m not sure that’s exactly what happened," Obama says in the following video. "She likes to play different characters.”

And it turns out - like the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden when he approved a SEAL team mission to take out that terrorist - Obama was correct!

“Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President," Minaj Tweeted today. "The smart ones always do… *sends love & support.”

Sorry, Mitt. You'll always have Clint Eastwood.

Two of Hollywood's most eccentric stars made appearances on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet last night.

First, rumored new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj posed in a skin-tight outfit, yellow hair sprouting out the sides of a stylish black hat.

Then there was Ke$ha, who... looked sort of normal. For Ke$ha at least. Flowing blonde hair and a lack of facial glitter is simply not what we expect from this singer.

Did the regular look throw you off? Did it top Nicki's outfit? Compare and vote below.

The Fierce Five - Gabby Douglas, 16, McKayla Maroney, 16, Kyla Ross, 15, Jordyn Wieber, 17, and Aly Raisman, 18 - appeared at the MTV VMAs last night.

One of America's gymnastics golden girls in particular made her presence felt, however, during Alicia Keys' performance of "Girl on Fire" late in the show.

Midway through the song, Nicki Minaj appeared on stage to perform her verse, which included a shout-out to Douglas, who then tumbled onto the stage!

Nicki Minaj rapped: "Took me on the balcony, telling me to jump with her / Yeah, I'm in the ghost but I ain't doing stunts with her / I ain't trying to be that, haters want to see that / But I got 'em aggy, cause I win the gold like Gabby."

Cue Gabby!

Douglas strutted past Keys and performing a series of cartwheels, jumps and back hand springs, flashing her million-dollar smile and high-fiving Keys as she left.

Talk about making an entrance and an exit. The lame Russian judge probably found some obscure reason to deduct points, but we'd give Gabby a perfect 10.

Our only regret? That she didn't do this for every artist. The Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz MTV performance really could've used a little gymnastics flair.

One of the more outspoken artists in the music business, Nicki Minaj makes her political leanings very clear in a verse from the track "Mercy," which is included on Lil Wayne‘s "Dedication 4" mixtape.

So, who has Minaj poetically endorsed?

“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney," she raps in the following video, adding (we presume) of the Democrats: "You lazy bitches are f-cking up the economy."

Minaj isn't the only celebrity who will be pulling a lever in Romney's direction in November. Chuck Norris worries that another four years of President Obama will send the nation into darkness, while Clint Eastwood expressed his concerns by talking to an empty chair.

Who will YOU be voting for in this election?

Despite reports to the contrary yesterday, Nicki Minaj is NOT officially an American Idol judge.

According to a new source, show producers first must decide whether Randy Jackson will remain on the panel before they decide on just who sits alongside Mariah Carey.

And if it were up to Carey, that individual would most certainly not be Minaj.

TMZ says Carey hung up the phone in anger after learning of Nicki's possible hiring. She was reportedly angry over the inclusion of another female on the show, especially a female 13 years her junior.

While the Powers That Be deal with that issue, they are considering Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and/or Enrique Iglesias as either the fourth judge (if Randy stays) or the third judge (if he leaves and Minaj does, indeed, come on board).

There's also another topic of controversy about which producers are worrying: would a panel of Minaj, Jackson and Carey be a turnoff to middle America?

Hey, we aren't the ones asking. We're just relaying the show's concerns and questions.

American Idol Season 12 will officially feature some serious girl power.

Following weeks of rumors and speculation, multiple sources now confirm that Nicki Minaj is in as a new judge on the country's must-watched television show.

While Fox is yet to release a statement on the hiring, an insider tells Us Weekly that Minaj is 100% signed, while another says this hip hop star is "definitely doing it."

Minaj joins Mariah Carey on the panel, with the status of Randy Jackson remaining up in the air.

According to a new report, the longtime judge will NOT be returning for Season 12, as Idol will go with a four-person table that also includes Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias.

Minaj, meanwhile, embarks on a world tour this October. Her latest album led to a pair of top 10 singles ("Starships" and "Pound the Alarm") and the artist is a supporter of free universal health care.

Are you excited for Nicki to join American Idol?

UPDATE: This is reportedly NOT a done deal, and Carey won't be very happy if it becomes one.
