It was the end of an impressive, talented run for Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo on American Idol last night. The singers were both eliminated, as the show cuts its number of finalists down to nine.

How did they react to the news?

  • Megia, Thia
  • Naima Adedapo on Idol

Backstage, shortly after hearing her name called by Ryan Seacrest, Thia told Entertainment Weekly she was proud of her song choice ("Daniel," dedicated to her brother, which she said made him "cry) and that she has a lot to offer the music world.

I can do “so much more than just slower songs and ballads," Megia said. "In the future, I see me as being my own artist and definitely not a ballad singer!”

Make it your own. Do something unique. Put a fresh twist on it.

How often have we heard American Idol judges utter these words to contestants over the years? Considering such requests, Naima Adedapo put on one of the most impressive performance of last night with "Dancing in the Streets."

She incorporated horns and percussion instruments and broke it down at one point with her own style of moving and shaking. There was a tribal element to the rendition, helping it stand out and leading to the following critique from Randy:

"Finally, tonight, all of Naima showed up - the girl that loves all the African dance... the reggae girl... the singing. Everything was very smart that you did."

Do you agree?

American Idol took its show on the road last night, heading to Las Vegas for the first time and naming its first set of semifinalists.

Following an hour devoted to group performances that honored The Beatles, the judges spoke to various contestants individually and delivered either dream-making or heart-breaking news.

Two of the women who received the former? Haley Reinhart and Naima Adedapo. They have moved on to the season 10 semifinals, partly based on their most recent rendition of "Long and Winding Road."

Joined by Jacob Lusk, listen to Reinhart and Adedapo now and decide: are they worthy semifinalists?

The 23-year old from Los Angeles was scarcely featured during that city's original round of season 10 auditions. But he stood out from all other contenders on last night's group night, joining forces with Naima Adedapo - another rumored member of the top 40 - for an a cappella version of the Temptations' "Get Ready."

Watch now and prepare to Lusk after this contestant:

While most American Idol chatter this morning centers around the tragic/inspiring story of Chris Medina and his girlfriend, other contestants from last night's Milwaukee auditions also left an impression.

Take Naima Adedapo.

Her name may be difficult to pronounce, but it also may be one viewers hear often over the next few weeks. This 25-year old mother works on the grounds of Summerfest, the country's largest music festival. Based on her rendition of Donny Hathaway's "For All We Know," however," she could be singing there herself one day. Watch the audition now:
