Mindy McCready cannot even give birth without controversy.

The country singer - who abducted her son in late 2011 and was eventually found cowering with the five-year old in a friend's closet - welcomed a baby boy into the world last Monday, she confirmed over the weekend, despite reports that she was pregnant with twins.

His name is Zayne.

“Zayne is truly a blessing and a joy,” McCready and boyfriend David Wilson said in a statement. “It was a long and trying pregnancy; we’re so happy he’s here. There are no words to convey how happy we are.”

A rep for McCready says a "misinterpreted sonogram" was to blame for the initial claim of two fetuses.

The crooner's sordid history includes an alleged relationship with cheating baseball star Roger Clemens when she was only 16, along with the incident detailed above and a sex tape. She is also the mother to Zander, 6.

Mindy McCready is an odd one. In her latest eye-opening public statement, she said that her son Zander is really the only thing stopping her from offing herself.

In an interview with ABC's 20/20, McCready said the boy "saved my life."

"Every time I wanted to let go and give in, I remember what he did for me," said McCready, who has attempted suicide at least once. "He is my little angel."

McCready's previous efforts at suicide and substance abuse are the reasons she no longer has custody of Zander - and feuds with her mother, who does.

Mindy and Zander were recently the subject of an interstate manhunt after she allegedly took off with him during a visitation. He is now in foster care.

The troubled country singer says that her mom, Gayle Inge, believes herself to be a prophet from God - not exactly a good influence on young Zander.

Also, "They see dead people in their home all the time – spirits, demons, ghosts," explained McCready, who is pregnant again with twins as we speak.

McCready also contends Inge has spanked Zander with a wooden spoon hard enough to leave scars. Inge denies the allegation. Until Round 293 ...

With the FBI accusing her of “parental abduction,” troubled singer Mindy McCready tells ABC that she believed she did nothing wrong in violating a court order.

After fleeing with her five-year-old son to Arkansas, U.S. Marshals said they later found the country singer and the boy hiding in a closet, which she denies.

“What I did was to protect my child, there’s not a person in the world that’s going to tell me that that is wrong,” said McCready, who was found in Arkansas.

"I would not ever think that me taking my own child, that I carried for nine months, that I gave birth to in the hospital by myself would ever be breaking the law.”

That's not necessarily how it works, but oh well.

McCready, who is pregnant with twins, said her son was anguished when, she said, U.S. Marshals came to get the boy with a SWAT team-like force last Friday.

“He was screaming, ‘Please don’t touch me, don’t touch me, please don’t touch my mommy. Please, leave me alone, I want to be with my mommy,’” she said.

An official with the U.S. Marshalls said that authorities used standard operating procedure when taking Zander into custody and had a social worker with them.

One of the stranger stories of 2011 has come to a safer end than many had feared: country singer Mindy McCready and her five-year old son were found yesterday in Heber Springs, Arkansas.

The troubled artist - who is pregnant with twins - had openly refused this week to return five-year old Zander to the care of her mother in Florida, claiming she was set on protecting the child, even if it resulted in jail time.

But David Rahbany, the chief deputy U.S. Marshal in eastern Arkansas, tells CNN McCready and her son were discovered late last night, hiding in the closet of someone presumed to be Mindy's boyfriend.

"The child appeared to be in good condition when we found him," Rahbany said.

Zander is in the custody of the Arkansas Division of Children and Family Services and arrangements are being made to send him back to his maternal grandmother.

"We feel sorrow for Zander because he's traumatized, and for Mindy," the latter's mother and stepfather said in a statement. "We just hope she does the right thing from here on out and that this is a wake-up call for her."

Country singer Mindy McCready is "pushing her luck" by not following a judge's order to return her 5-year-old son to the care of her mother in Florida, her ex says.

Billy McKnight, the father of Zander, spoke out after McCready said she would not bring her son back from Tennessee, despite violating a custody arrangement.

McCready took the boy during a recent visit at her father's Florida home, and a judge signed an order Thursday ordering authorities to take the boy into custody.

A missing persons report was filed, and while McCready spoke with police to confirm she is not missing, it's not yet clear whether she could face criminal charges.

"I'm doing all this to protect Zander, not stay out of trouble," McCready told the AP. "I don't think I should be in trouble for protecting my son in the first place."

McCready says she is in Tennessee and cannot travel because she's also pregnant with twins - and seven months along, making it impossible for her to return.

The judge's order means law enforcement anywhere can pick up the boy and bring him back to Florida. Billy McKnight told Today that he spoke with Zander.

"He did sound healthy. He wasn't crying or scared," he said. "I think she believes she has a case and doesn't realize that she's pushing her luck on this one."

Mindy McCready, who was allegedly missing with her son as recently as yesterday, has been found, alive and well ... and is pregnant with twins! Yikes!

The troubled singer set off alarms yesterday by not bringing her 5-year-old son, of whom she does not have legal custody, back home to her parents.

She ultimately cleared that up ... and then revealed via her rep that she is five months along. No other details, such as who the father is, are known.

McCready is in Nashville with the boy, who she took without permission, and will likely miss the deadline the court set (5 p.m. today) for her to return Zander.

A warrant may be issued for her the pregnant star's arrest if she doesn't show up at her parents' house with Zander in tow. But it looks like that won't happen.

Police confirmed that they were not treating McCready and her son Zander's absence as a missing persons case any longer and that the pair were safe.

So that's good at least. Congrats on the impending arrivals ... although we are a little scared based on her track record about her ability to handle it.

Police are searching for troubled singer Mindy McCready and her five-year-old son Zander, who both disappeared Tuesday night in Florida during an apparent dispute.

McCready, 36, doesn't have legal custody of the child but is allowed visitations. She was last seen after she picked up the boy from her dad's Cape Coral, Fla., house.

The star and the court system are apparently at odds, and a missing persons report has been filed. A judge has ordered Mindy to return Zander by 5 p.m. Thursday.

McCready's parents have legal custody of the boy.

Late Tuesday night McCready posted a Facebook message refuting this, saying, "My son is not missing" and that "police established that this afternoon via Skype."

"I have been fighting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring him home," she writes to ... all the individuals who follow Mindy McCready on Facebook.

"Please, please do not worry."

McCready has been plagued by myriad personal problems in life, such as a drug overdose, suicide attempt(s), rehab and an underage affair with Roger Clemens.

Mindy McCready was hospitalized in Cape Coral, Fla., for a possible drug overdose earlier this morning, according to reports. Her condition is unknown.

The troubled country star's rep denied that she OD'd on drugs, but rather she just had a bad reaction to a painkiller, to which her mother "overreacted."

Brent Young, Mindy's rep, told TMZ she broke her toe two days ago and has been complaining about the pain and her mom gave her four Darvocet pills. 

Darvocet is a narcotic painkiller. Mindy told her mom that she wasn't feeling well, possibly from a bad reaction to Darvocet, and her mom called 911.

Young says McCready's mom may have been trying to make her custody argument stronger - they're fighting over Mindy's young son - by calling 911.

Young says he just spoke with Mindy, saying, "She's totally coherent. She can't believe her mom did this." Mindy denies she is off the wagon, period.

Backing her up? Dr. Drew Pinsky. He says there is "no evidence of any relapse" and furthermore, that Darvocet was an appropriate med for her pain.

This is the first story we've done on Mindy in some time that didn't involve her getting arrested or naked, at least. Hospitalized is right up there, though.

Last year, the Mindy McCready sex tape came out. Before that, she was accused of leaking the Eric Dane nude tape and jailed for a probation violation.

What a mess.

When hilarious news of a Mindy McCready sex tape broke Monday, we had a good laugh and wondered how long it would be until she pretended to decry its XXX release.

"We are not aware of the production or release of the alleged film that seems to have surfaced via various media reports," McCready's attorney, Adam Dread, said.

"We can confirm that any illegally-obtained property, and/or fabricated footage, and the release thereof, will be dealt with swiftly following proper legal procedure."

We've been around the celebrity sex tape block long enough to know that the statement from McCready's lawyer was likely written with one or both of these goals:

1. To act indignant and pretend the sex tape was "leaked"
2. To get McCready in on the profits, a la Kim Kardashian
