Miley Cyrus has faced criticism before.

Many celebrity gossip followers though it was inappropriate for the singer to pose topless in Vanity Fair; others believe she's nothing more than a Disney-created hack.

Liam and Miley Photo

Now, however, comes a true test. Cyrus is facing the wrath of an entire ethnicity, following a controversial photo in which she and friends appear to be making fun of Asians.

Earlier today, a woman acted as the plaintiff in a class action suit against Miley, one that is asking the singer to pay $4 billion in damages to the Asian Pacific Islanders she offended in the aforementioned picture.

How should Cyrus react to this lawsuit? You can answer that in the poll below. For now, she's just trying to prove that she actually has Asian friends...

Will Miley's friendly strategy pay off? We'll see.

Let us know how YOU think Cyrus should handle this lawsuit:

No, that dollar amount in this article's headline is not a misprint.

Miley Cyrus has been sued for more money than even she'll see in this lifetime.

According to TMZ, Lucie J. Kim claims to represent more than one million Asian Pacific Islanders that live in L.A. County. She has filed a class action lawsuit against Cyrus due to her participation in the infamous photo below that depicts Miley and friends slanting their eyes.

Might this photo cost Miley Cyrus... everything?!?

The documents state Cyrus "knew or should have known that her image would be publicly disseminated via the media, which Cyrus knew focused on her private life, specifically TMZ."

The suit also reads that that each Asian Pacific Islander is entitled to the minimum damages for a civil rights violation: $4,000.

* Our take: Yes, Miley Cyrus can be a hypocrite. She acts like a self-centered, self-important celebrity one moment; and then claims she's "just a kid" the next moment, supposedly unaware of the stir a photo such as the one above would create.

But, come on. $4 billion in damages?!? Even Patty Hewes would say that's unwarranted.

If at first you don't apologize successfully, try, try again.

Following a lame apology that essentially blamed others for misinterpreting a photo of her and her friends possibly mocking Asians, Miley Cyrus has taken to her official website again.

Totally Together

Here's the singer's second attempt at putting racist rumors to rest:

"I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of GOD’s ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be."

Have you seen the supposedly racist picture in question? Do you think Cyrus made a mistake posing for it? Write in. Let us know!

Miley Cyrus is a totally innocent, goofy, God-loving gal.

So says Miley Cyrus herself.

In response to criticism that a recent photo of the actress and her friends is offensive to Asians, Cyrus has blogged the following:

I'm sorry if people looked at those pics and took.. out of context!

In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new 'BAD GIRL'!

I feel like now that [Britney Spears] is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! haha Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way! You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD!

** Our Take: You're right, Miley, if that had been someone else, it would have been overlooked. Michael Phelps can say the same thing about his recent bong use; or Vanessa Hudgens about her leaked naked photos in 2006.

But the bottom line is that celebrities are held to a higher standard. You have earned worldwide fame and fortune by peddling your supposedly clean Disney image. Can you truly make the argument that you had NO clue the current photo in question would be interpreted as an insult to Asians? Perception is as important as reality sometimes.

We still heart you, Miley. But grow up, take responsibiliy - or take yourself out of the spotlight.

From now on, when someone says "Cheeeese," a voice in Miley Cyrus' head should say, "RUN!"

No, the teen icon has not stripped down for any new half-naked photos.

But she has gotten herself mixed up in another picture controversy, this time by striking a pose that some may interpret as being disrespectful of another culture.

In the shot below, Miley is sitting on the lap of boyfriend Justin Gaston. Along with others, she's pulling her eyelids apart, perhaps in a mocking gesture directed at the facial structure of Asians.

Would the photo above be a big deal if Miley Cyrus were a typical 16-year old? Of course not.

Like Michael Phelps and his bong use, however, celebrities - especially those that peddle their image for fortune and fame - are held to a higher standard.

With that in mind, chime in below: Is Miley acting inappropriately in this picture?

Miley Cyrus may have written a hit song referring "7 Things" she hates about ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, but the star swears she has no beef with this adorable singer.

"I love Nicky," she tells fans in the video below. "I do love him. I love Kevin. I love Joe. I love Frankie. I love all the boys and I love their family. So everyone should back off the feud 'cause we're over it."

As for rumors that she doesn’t get along with fellow Disney stars, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, Cyrus goes to an extreme in her denial.

Miley says she "love[s] [Demi] more than anything in the whole wide world."

Sorry, Justin Gaston. Guess you had to find out some time.

Miley Cyrus and much older boyfriend Justin Gaston tried to sneak out of Mo’s restaurant in Toluca Lake last night.

Nice try, guys! But you can't allude the gaggle of celebrity gossip photographers that follow your every move.

Gaston donned a bright blue beanie during the evening out, while Miley rocked a sideways baseball cap. Think this head gear makes the couple look cool or stupid?
