The Situation has been discharged from the Cirque Lodge rehab center in Utah, where he was receiving treatment for substance abuse, according to reports.

Now the real test for the Jersey Shore star ... STAYING clean.

Sitch, a.k.a. Mike Sorrentino, checked in to the famous clinic weeks ago. Clearly he tried to keep it on the DL, but after the story leaked, he admitted he had to "get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion."

Contemplative Sitch

The Situation's drinking problem, while never addressed by the star, was also said to have become a problem multiple times over the course of five seasons.

It's unclear if he's quit boozing for good, but if so, that's going to be quite a twist for a reality show predicated around binge drinking and subsequent boning.

Hence the rumors that Jersey Shore may be phasing out Situation (and pregnant Snooki) after the new season, which they are both set to film this summer.

We know Snooki will cut a bitch if you mess with her kid ... but a pregnant girl in the Shore house? With a sober Mike? Can that really make for quality TV?

MTV had warned and even threatened to replace The Situation, who's currently in rehab for prescription drug addiction, more than once for excessive drinking.

According to sources cited by TMZ, producers from MTV and 495 Productions sat Situation (Mike Sorrentino) down initially while filming Season 2 back in 2010.

Even on a series revolving around insane partying and banging each other 24/7/365, they felt that Mike's drinking had become a problem for the show.

Sitch promised to pull himself together, allegedly, but during Season 3, producers had to speak with him again, this time threatening to replace him.

Mike then showed promise in Italy during Season 4, but once the crew got back to the States for the just-completed Season 5, he was back to his old ways.

Possibly acting more erratic and ridiculous than ever, come to think of it.

This prompted another sit-down and another threat of recasting, but the message got through this time, as The Situation's in rehab and sobering up.

Of course, that now gives MTV and 495 a different problem, given that the premise of the show the cast's insane partying and banging of each other.

Hence the reports that Jersey Shore may be phasing out The Situation (and pregnant Snooki) in the coming season ... which the network has denied.

What do you think? Would you watch JS sans Snook & Sitch?

With Snooki pregnant and engaged (!) and The Situation in rehab, the producers of Jersey Shore are obviously concerned. For the stars, sure, but mostly for the show.

Apparently they are worried the show will lose its edge - being a show about a bunch of drunk, sex-crazed rowdies - and are looking to phase the two out.

Newer, crazier cast members are apparently being sought.

  • Yeah We Got a Situation!

MTV released a statement earlier this week, after Mike admitted his substance abuse problem, claiming it expects the entire cast to return for Season 6.

However, sources close to 495 Productions say the company is quite concerned about the recent events and wants to keep things fresh above all else.

If that means bringing in new JS cast members to help transition the show into a new generation, while still keeping old fans hooked, then so be it.

495 plans to limit Snooki and Situation's roles on the new season, giving the new cast members more screen time instead. Filming begins this summer.

Jersey Shore has been in the news a lot lately for reasons having nothing to do with the show, making last night's reunion special feel a bit pointless.

With Snooki pregnant and Mike in rehab, the two top stories among MTV's band of guidos are playing out in real life, not in front of reality TV cameras.

Still, the gang assembled for a postmortem of sorts in the aftermath of the fifth season, which ended last week. And there certainly a lot to discuss.

Jersey Shore Season Five Cast

Highlights from the Jersey Shore reunion special included:

  • Snooki continuing to deny servicing Mike, saying, "If I was that horny, I'd just go to my room and masturbate." Sitch also stood his ground: "I'm not a liar, I'm not. And I'm not gonna be made out to look like one, that's it."
  • Mike was again dubbed the villain of the house, after which he said he felt emotional and left out. JWoww suggested that he apologize for the shady things he's done, but Mike instead walked off set. Way to go man.
  • JWoww convinced him to com back out, and Mike did apologize. Aww.
  • BFFs Pauly and Vinny reminisced about pranks, stalkers and the like.
  • JWoww is still happy in love with Roger Williams.
  • Snooki is, of course, still with Jionni LaValle.
  • Ronnie Magro and Sammi Giancola are no longer in a relationship because their "schedules became hectic." As for who ended it? Mixed messages.

Just a few months until Jersey Shore season six films!

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is in rehab for his prescription drug problem and his former Jersey Shore co-star, Angelina Pivarnick, is not the least bit surprised.

Or particularly sympathetic, apparently.

Ange, who quit the show in each of its first two seasons (for good the second time around), slammed Sitch to the New York Post, terming him “Popeye on crack.”

Angelina and The Situation

“When he was on the show, he got in trouble for prescription pills," she added, saying he's dabbled in drugs for a while. "We were filming in a club in Miami."

"One of the producers said, ‘Hey what was that?’ He had to give them up.”

Asked if The Situation has a drug problem, his rep directed us to his Facebook page, where he came clean about the issue after some initially vague denials.

TMZ first reported that Mike was in rehab. He's now confirmed that.

“I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion,” he wrote, thanking his fans for their support.

The Situation is coming clean about getting clean.

The Jersey Shore star, real name Mike Sorrentino, previously called reports that he was in rehab "ridiculous embellishments" reported by the media.

Well, it turns out they weren't all that ridiculous.

Sitch explained in a Facebook post Wednesday that he [wants] "to set the record straight" about having "voluntarily taken steps to get control" of his life.

Sitch (Jersey Shore)

Mike writes on his official Facebook Wall: "I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion."

"I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating ... I appreciate my fans' support and I love you guys."

TMZ, which broke the story of The Situation in rehab, says he went through detox at a facility even before he checked into Utah's Cirque Lodge.

Sitch didn't mention it on Facebook, but the celebrity gossip site claims Mike is "very open" with patients at Cirque about his drinking problem as well.

How this impacts the forthcoming Season 6 of Jersey Shore remains to be seen. A sober Mike and Snooki in Seaside? Can you even fathom that?

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino says he's getting a much-need breather, but denies (mostly) that he is in rehab for any sort of substance abuse problem.

After TMZ reported that Sitch was in rehab Tuesday, a rep for the Jersey Shore star said that he was at an undisclosed location "for much needed rest."

The rep chalked that up to "his extensive production and appearance schedule." Now Mike's personally commenting on the (sorry) situation as well:

Mike The Sitch

He didn't flat out deny it, but called out TMZ for "ridiculous embellishments."

"You can't believe everything you hear about 'the situation' with The Situation," he wrote on his blog, hilariously called Sitch News, early Wednesday.

The GTL-loving reality star added, "This is just like the child hood game of 'telephone.' Someone hears a small rumor and blows it out of proportion."

"All these websites are doing is spreading gossip / hearsay, and unless you hear it from us, you can't believe everything you read," Situation said, before posting the aptly-titled YouTube video of Adele's "Rumour Has It." Good song!

Whether or not he's got a problem, we're looking forward to a refreshed Mike heading back to Seaside Heights for Jersey Shore Season 6 this summer.

UPDATE: TMZ just reported that Situation is undergoing rehab at the famous Cirque Lodge in Utah, for addiction to prescription medication.

Is The Situation from Jersey Shore in rehab?

Conflicting stories began swirling around the web last night and this morning, with TMZ stating that the muscle-bound reality star had indeed sought treatment.

However, his rep tells E! this is not the case.

TMZ, citing sources close to the MTV star, says his hard-partying ways grew worse this season, culminating in the episode in which the gang went camping.

GTR: Is Mike's new routine gym, tan, rehab?

According to the unnamed sources, Sitch recently checked into rehab for substance abuse after realizing his recreational habits had spun out of control.

Sources close to Sitch claim that the Jersey Shore mainstay had been showing signs of substance abuse for a while but "was getting a lot worse" of late.

People noticed he was "acting paranoid" on the set, looking jittery, sweating profusely and acting bizarre ... even for a guy who always is a little bizarre.

In light of the fact that Jionni got Snooki pregnant, and multiple cast members have their own spinoffs coming out, was this the last ever Jersey Shore?

That remains to be seen, but if Thursday night's Season 5 finale turned out to be a swan song, our favorite roving gang of guidos/ettes could do worse.

Between an epic prank war, laughter, tears, bittersweet emotions, hooking up with two lesbians and even a natural disaster, this chapter had it all in Seaside.

Let's recap the season finale of Jersey Shore, THG style!

Here's to the Shore

The Situation gets upset when he sees Pauly D and Vinny's latest prank. Like, for real upset. Like, it "really, really, really" pisses him off, he assures us.

And by that metric, Operation Inside Out was totes a success! Plus 14.

Eventually, Pauly helped Sitch bring all his "ruined" belongings back in the house. Because that's what friends do ... to help others quit whining. Plus 4.

Sitch tells Snook the gossip about Deena's sister. Guy cannot go 15 minutes without gossiping. Minus 10 for being lame, Plus 15 for entertaining fans.

Deena finds a new drink holder. Fake boobs are so utilitarian. Plus 9.

Vinny becomes "friends" with two lesbians at the club, and it seems they're into him too. It's as if he's died and gone to guido heaven. Plus 20.

In light of the fact that Jionni LaValle got Snooki pregnant, this week's Jersey Shore seemed almost irrelevant ... and at the same time told us a lot.

Last night's show was filmed long before this bombshell, of course, but the buildup to Mike revealing his "master plan" had long been in the works.

Who were the winners and losers of this epic conflict?

Let's recap Jersey Shore, THG style, and find out!

Mike and Jionni

After The Situation tells Snooki's boyfriend that she cheated on him, the two shake hands. Mostly amicable, really. If only for a moment. Plus 11.

Even if Sitch's story is true, which it probably is, let's dace it, it's funny to watch Jionni and Snooki laugh about it as Mike expects drama. Plus 17.

For whatever reason, Mike decides he will go well every roommate what he did ... as if they care or he's doing it out of actual guilt. Minus 45.

When Vin porked Snook, he did not do this. Plus 8.

Snooki confronts The Situation, taking out aggression during a food fight. It's not as good as the Italy melee, but nevertheless, Plus 8.

The roommates watch as Snooki faces off against Sitch. Ever the protective figure, Pauly D tries to shield Deena from the fight. Plus 12.
