19 Kids and Counting star Michelle Duggar turned 48 years old Saturday. Naturally, she was showered with love from her adoring brood. And it's a big brood.

  • Michelle and Jill Duggar
  • Josh and Michelle Duggar

The family matriarch received some nice birthday pampering courtesy of her daughter Jill Duggar, currently expecting her first child with husband Derick Dillard.

The newlywed, whose romance continues to play out on TV (as you know if you watch 19 Kids and Counting) posted a picture of her and her mom getting pedicures.

The 23-year-old wrote, "Happy Birthday Mama! You're my hero and the most amazing mother in the world! Love you! #michelleduggar #jillmdillard #birthday"

Derick Dillard also shared a photo of Michelle and Jill from his wedding day (above, left), captioned amusingly, "Happy birthday to my favorite mother-in-law!"

Her first born child of those 19 kids and counting, Josh Duggar, sent along a selfie (above, right) and the message, "Happy birthday to the best mom ever! #19kids"

On 19 Kids and Counting Season 8 Episode 2 and 3, the Duggar daughters' dating lives were examined. Or to use the proper terminology, their courting lives.

One of the Duggar family dating/courting rules is that couples be chaperoned, which means Jessa's siblings tag along on dates with her and Ben Seewald.

We saw the downside of this on 19 Kids and Counting Season 8 Episode 2, and not merely because the kids will prevent any possible making out.

When they take his truck, there's not even a third seat! That's a tight squeeze, but you'll never forget the chaperone is there this way ... so mission accomplished?

It's not just Jessa and Ben, either. Before Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are married, they have to deal with this too. Even when her brother gets carsick!

Back to Ben and Jessa, they decided to go to a shooting range, where he was shown up by his date. That Jessa Duggar gun photo wasn't just for show!

In a new sneak peek from TLC's 19 Kids and Counting, Jill Duggar and now-husband Derick Dillard scope out possible venues for their big wedding.

Emphasis on big. Nothing about the Duggar family is small, people!

As they narrowed down locations for their June 21 nuptials in Springdale, Ark., they first needed to find one with the capacity to hold 1,000 individuals.

A thousand. And you thought your wedding was overwhelming!

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard were joined by Jill's mother, Michelle Duggar, for the outing, where they even looked at the place she married Jim Bob.

"I'm very familiar with Cross Church. My parents were actually married there and then they renewed their vows there," Jill explained to the cameras.

Jill joked about the "Duggar sized" stage the church offered, while the duo held hands and walked around the location, which seats up to 1,500 guests.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar just can't believe that two of their eldest daughters, Jill and Jessa Duggar, are growing up and starting families of their own.

With Jill Duggar pregnant with her first child, and Jessa engaged to Ben Seewald, the 19 Kids and Counting parents are going through a  transitional period.

"Now that it's actually happening, there are all of these wonderful mixed emotions," Michelle wrote on her blog of watching her girls grow up and start families.

"It's so exciting, shocking, and surprising all at the same time."

"Jill and Derick, and Jessa and Ben, are becoming best friends and really getting to know each other in such a sweet way when the right one comes along."

"You get the joy of watching a loving relationship unfold."

Michelle couldn't be happier to see her kids in love, but there's an element of sadness, too. "It's good, not bad, yet change is sometimes hard," she said.

Good news, as the old adage goes, has a tendency to travel fast.

Especially with a family as tight-knit, and huge, as the Duggars.

Such was the case with the fact that Jill Duggar is pregnant after just a few weeks of marriage. She and husband Derick Dillard knew they couldn't keep that secret.

They didn't even try. Jill and Derick were busy spreading the word almost as soon as they saw that positive pregnancy test. Her parents? Shocked!

In a good way. "There is a lot of joy," Michelle Duggar gushed.

Jill's father, Jim Bob Duggar, says though he was shocked about the news, he knows the newly-married duo he set up will be wonderful parents.

"Jill has been such a wonderful sister to her brothers and sisters," he says. "She always makes activities for the kids, looks for ways to make a dull project fun."

"And Derick is going to be a wonderful father."

Derick's family is often overshadowed by the Duggars, but mom Cathy, 57, now cancer-free after intensive chemotherapy, was moved to tears.

Michelle Duggar has never been shy about expressing her conservative political beliefs, but her recent opposition to an Arkansas law might surprise even her most far-right fans.

The TLC reality star recorded a robocall message for the citizens of Fayetteville, Ark., encouraging them to vote against an anti-discrimination law.

The legislation is designed to outlaw prejudice against transgender individuals with regard to employment, housing, and use of public facilities.

Duggar not only wants to keep current segregation policies in place, she reveals in her call that she refuses to recognize transgender people by their proper gender.

In fact, she informs callers that the new law would allow "men - yes I said men to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, [and] showers."

When it came time to find a mate for life, Jessa Duggar followed her family's advice. She got engaged to Ben Seewald last week, so it clearly worked.

Earlier this year, Jill Duggar married Derick Dillard, having not only taken her dad's approach to dating - sorry, courting - but having him set her up!

Fans of TLC's hit reality show 19 Kids & Counting know the family's views of love and relationships may seem extreme, but they feel they're onto something.

The Duggars' approach goes go far beyond their rules of chaperoned dates, no hand-holding until you get engaged, and saving your first kiss until marriage.

It's about making a deep connection, and keeping it.

By setting boundaries, establishing accountability and making it a family-wide affair, here are five Duggar Family rules for dating that will make love last:

It's Called COURTING!
Dating means you're shopping around, says Jim Bob Duggar, while courtship is the path toward marriage. Courting is getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry or not.
