Michael Brea, the small-time actor who briefly appeared on Ugly Betty, was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon on Friday.

The 31-year old did not speak or enter a plea, but he's already given an interview in which he went into grisly detail over the circumstances that led to his mother's murder.

Brea is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and is being held without bail. His next hearing is scheduled for December 18.

In a statement, Brea's family refers to their relative as a "compassionate, gentle, intelligent, spiritual and loving man" who is in need of help, adding:

"His family and friends know, without question, that Michael was not well in the moments leading to [his mother's] death."

The small-time thespian, who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his mother with a three-foot sword, opened up to the newspaper and said "I didn't kill her. I killed the demon inside her."

Before ending the life of 55-year old Yannick Brea, Michael said a number of visions gave him no choice.

"I was sleeping in my bedroom. God came above my bed and reached his arm to me. I said, 'God, is my time on earth over?' I heard a voice say, 'Yes Michael, today is your last day.'"

Michael Brea has officially been charged with as gruesome a crime as one can commit.

The small-time actor was discovered inside his Brooklyn apartment yesterday morning, covered in blood, clutching a bible and standing near the bathroom where police found his 55-year old mother's dead body. Reports indicate Yannick Brea had severe cuts on her head, countering sources who originally claimed she was decapitated.

Police had to subdue Michael with a taser.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told The Associated Press that officers found the 31-year old actor - who appeared in Step-Up 3D - "in a bedroom... with a 3-foot sword."

After undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at a Brooklyn hospital, Brea was arrested on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

UPDATE: Neighbors tell The New York Daily News they heard Brea screaming at his mother "Sinner! Sinner! You never accepted Jesus!" around the time of the alleged attack.

This is as bizarre and as heinous a story as we could possibly imagine.

Michael Brea, a small-time actor who once appeared on Ugly Betty, has been taken into custody for allegedly chopping off the head of his mother with a samurai sword.

According to police reports, cops arrived to an "extremely bloody" scene at Brea's Brooklyn home around 2:20 this morning and found the actor holding a bible. They had to subdue him via taser.

A neighbor recounted events, as he/she heard them, to WPIX 11: "I hear [Brea] chasing [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent.' I heard him chasing her through the house and I heard a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops."

The victim was found with her head sliced off. At the moment, Brea is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and then will be handed over to the NYPD.
