Mel Gibson celebrates another birthday today. The oft-troubled actor is 57.

The movie legend has experienced quite a free fall in the last 5-6 years.

Hopefully, 2013 is a better, happier, quieter 12-month period for ol' Mel.

To say his image has taken a hit is putting it mildly. But images can be rehabilitated with effort and sincerity - and simple, relative calm. No news is often good news.

Mel Gibson celebrates a birthday today. The troubled actor is 55.

Hopefully his New Year's resolution was to berate people less.

Seriously. Dude is an angry, deeply disturbed individual.

With Mel, you never know what to expect next.

Currently in the midst of three court battles with ex Oksana Grigorieva, Mel accuses her of extortion, wants custody of their daughter and denies her allegations of domestic abuse stemming from an epic fight last winter.

That drama, punctuated by Mel Gibson's insane rants, dominated news for much of 2010. Will this continue deep into 2011, or will the parties settle things amicably, allowing him to return to his career as a beloved Hollywood icon?

We have our doubts. Happy birthday, Mel.

Sorry, little Lucia. We missed your first birthday over the weekend. But we weren't the only ones.

Oksana Grigorieva threw a party for her daughter on Saturday afternoon, inviting 20 friends and family members. Mel Gibson's invite must have been lost in the mail, however.

The actor - who was deposed today, with Oksana sitting alongside her lawyer and across from her baby's daddy during the three-hour Q&A - was absent from the festivities, which took place at Oksana's home in Sherman Oaks.

As her parents continue their ugly, public custody battle, Lucia resides with Grigorieva, but often sees Gibson. Their overnight visits take place approximately once a week.

If Mel wants to get his his child a present, we hear her mother is looking for something green.
