Mel Gibson's latest mug shot has been released. We didn't expect the guy to be happy after being booked and fingerprinted, but still. Lighten up man!

Just hours after making his way into the El Segundo P.D. to be processed following his no contest plea to battery last week, this booking photo leaked.

Especially compared to Mel's previous effort, it's kinda scary ...

Mel Gibson Mug Shot (2011)

Mel was released right after this mug shot was taken last night.

It's rather nondescript as celebrity mug shots go. Not unlike the resolution to Mel's criminal case, it's a bit anticlimactic. Sadly for him, more drama awaits.

His no contest plea resulted in no jail time and was not a legal admission of guilt. But he is likely to face myriad civil lawsuits from Oksana Grigorieva.

Don't expect him to cave this time around. He will fight them tooth and nail and probably countersue. We just hope he keeps the rage under control.

Troubled star Mel Gibson turned himself into the El Segundo, Calif., Police Department to have his mug shot taken and fingerprints collected Wednesday night.

This was a mere formality.

Mel Picture

As part of his conviction for misdemeanor battery, in connection with Gibson's alleged January 2010 attack on Oksana Grigorieva, Mel had to be processed.

Mel was stoic in court last week.

Mel's no contest plea got him off with no jail time, although a festering legal war with Oksana will likely escalate over time for a number of reasons.

The criminal case against Gibson is closed, however. Judge Stephanie Sautner gave Mel a week from his sentencing Friday to go to a police station.

Mel went to the El Segundo PD last night at 9:30 PM PT. The information he gave includes his age, 55, his weight, 190 lbs, and his height, 5'10".

So far, no new additions to our celebrity mug shots gallery have been released, but you'll see them as soon as we have any (they may not leak).

If would appear that Mel Gibson's no contest plea to battery did not satiate Oksana Grigorieva's unrequited thirst for CA$H justice even a little bit.

Lawyers for Mel's baby mama are going after Gibson in their ongoing custody fight / family law case, asking for a hearing on whether Mel hit her.

Specifically, Oksana Grigorieva wants the court to ...

  • An order awarding Oksana sole custody of their daughter, Lucia, 1.
  • An order forcing a shrink to determine Mel's mental state (seriously).
  • A hearing to determine if Mel hit Oksana (a no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt, and he has denied the allegations of domestic abuse).

Oksana's team believes that Judge Scott Gordon may have been influenced by Mel's assertions that Oksana committed extortion with the infamous tapes.

That case has been dropped. Whether it results in an instant upgrade in custody status for her is another story, but this is destined to get even uglier.

Despite Mel Gibson's no contest plea to battery last week, Oksana Grigorieva plans to file a lawsuit alleging battery, emotional distress and defamation.

Sources close to Gibson say he will wage legal war if Oksana does so. Forget settling out of court ... it is ON like legal Donkey Kong this time around.

Oksana G.

The actor will "gladly" file his own lawsuit against the woman he says put a $15 million price on the Mel Gibson tapes in return for keeping quiet.

It could be just beginning for Mel and Oksana ...

Oksana's lawyer, Daniel Horowitz, said "our position hasn't changed" regarding Mel's no contest plea and her plans to sue for myriad damages.

This looming lawsuit likely played a huge role in Mel's no contest plea on misdemeanor battery charges, for which he will serve no jail time.

Pleading no contest subjected him to similar sentencing as a plea of guilty, but there was no admission of guilt that will bolster her claims.

Basically, he denied her account before, he's likely to keep denying it now, and Daniel Horowitz and Blair Berk are going to bill a lot of hours.

The L.A. County District Attorney filed a single misdemeanor battery charge against Mel Gibson today. The actor, as expected, pleaded no contest.

The misdemeanor specifically targets someone who cohabits or has a child with the alleged victim, but is less severe than felony domestic abuse.

Mel will not receive jail time for the alleged attack on Oksana Grigorieva, but will continue to undergo counseling and be on 36 months' probation.

One of the terms of probation - he cannot use violence against anyone. Mel may continue to have "peaceful contact" with Oksana going forward.

Mel: Troubled Fella

The nearly year-long Mel Gibson saga has come to an end.

A no-contest plea, while not technically a guilty plea, has the same immediate effect as a guilty plea, and is often offered as a part of a plea deal.

That's what happened today. While Mel felt he could win the case in court and be completely exonerated, this was his quickest means to an end.

Gibson also must perform court-ordered community service at a charity organization, and he elected to do so at Mending Kids International.

The group provides life-changing surgical care to children in need. None other than Mel's estranged wife Robyn Gibson serves as President.

Meanwhile, Oksana Grigorieva will NOT be charged with felony extortion in the concurrent investigation by the L.A. County District Attorney.

Confirming earlier reports, Mel Gibson will in fact be charged with domestic violence, stemming from an alleged attack on Oksana Grigorieva in early 2010.

He will also plead no contest Friday and avoid jail time.

According to TMZ, Mel will appear in court and enter a plea on the charge of simple battery - a lesser charge than corporal injury on a spouse.

NO CONTEST: Mel will be convicted, but on a lesser charge.

Mel was emotionally torn over the impending criminal charge. He denies Oksana's claims and believed he could win, but feared for his family.

After depositions, huge legal bills, the humiliation of the Mel Gibson tapes and non-stop scrutiny, he sought compromise and a swift resolution.

The pair's protracted court battle has taken a major toll on him and he didn't want to subject his family to more of the same. So he cut a deal.

Under the plea, he will undergo counseling but not spend any time behind bars. Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, released the following statement:

Mel Gibson tore Oksana Grigorieva a new one in a series of epic rants.

Now he's torn over how to proceed when he's charged with a crime.

Sources connected to Mel say he knows he will be charged, but is agonizing over the prospect of putting his family through a long, public trial.

At this point, does Mel simply want it all to go away?

Because Mel feels he will face only a low-level misdemeanor charge, the actor may be able to take a lighter sentence if he simply pleads guilty.

Even though he feels he's innocent, he's not sure he has the stomach to endure a year-long legal fight and the impact it will have on his kids.

Gibson could be charged with a misdemeanor as early as today stemming from the January 6, 2010 blowout between him and Oksana Grigorieva.

Oksana is likely in the clear on extortion allegations. Stay tuned.

The Mel Gibson voicemail rants against Oksana Grigorieva are authentic and were not tampered with, according to analysis by a forensic audio expert.

They are also really freaking insane!

Kent Gibson, a certified forensic audio expert who has previously worked for the FBI and L.A. County Sheriff department, wrote in a court declaration:

"In my professional opinion as a forensic audio examiner, I conclude that the recordings have not been modified and can be considered authentic."

Kent's declaration, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Dec. 9, came after he was hired by Oksana as she pursues a domestic violence case against Mel.

He was able to substantiate it was Gibson by comparing the voice to a sample of the star from an interview with talk-show host Michael Parkinson.

"The voice matches, indicating that this is the voice of Mr. Mel Gibson," Kent wrote, under penalty of perjury. "There are nine recordings made."

"Additionally there are nine voice mail recordings record on Oksana Grigorieva's answering machine." Yes there are. Follow the jump to hear them:

Charlie Sheen says Mel Gibson is one cool dude.

At some point, Gibson may want to take a critical lesson from his admirer and start #WINNING. Lately in court, dude's been doing anything but.

Oksana Grigorieva and her team of lawyers have scored yet another victory against Gibson, who must cough up $300,000 for her legal fees.

WOE IS MEL: Gibson must pay the $300,000 immediately.

Oksana's lawyers, which total more than 40, have asked for a figure exceeds an incredible $3 million. This for a custody battle involving one child, mind you.

They've also defended Oksana against extortion allegations, of course, and helped her make the case that Mel committed domestic violence against her.

He is likely to be charged soon, sources say. It's unclear how much Mel has paid in legal fees thus far, but talk about running up a tab, with no end in sight.

No decision has been made yet, but sources report that Mel Gibson is likely to be charged with domestic violence in an alleged attack on Oksana Grigorieva.

At the same time, Oksana, who Mel alleges tried to bilk him out of millions by lording his taped rants over his head, is likely to be off the hook for extortion.

The question complicating an already confusing, drawn-out mess of a case is whether L.A. County District Attorney Steve Cooley should even be involved.

In Attack Mode!

Is the D.A. biased by a connection to Oksana's lawyer?

The D.A.'s office will soon decide the fate of Oksana and Mel, but critics are pointing to fundraisers he attended on his own behalf as questionable. Why?

The lawyer who negotiated Oksana's $15 million settlement - which she left on the table, and is at the core of the extortion investigation - is Eric George.

George, a prominent Beverly Hills civil lawyer, hosted both campaign fundraisers last year, while the L.A. County Sheriff's Department was investigating.
