Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Dancing with the Stars feuds have gone hand in hand over the years, but in this case, most fans are likely to be on his side.

The combustible pro is none too pleased at Julianne Hough, who guest judged the ABC hit series this week and hinted that he phoned in his performance.

"You can accuse me of a lot of things," said Maksim.

"You can't accuse me of not working hard enough."

Maks' comments came in response to Hough's accusation that he didn't give it all on Monday's "switch up" episode, when he partnered with Danica McKellar.

Suffice it to say, Chmerkovskiy didn't take kindly to that.

Following the blowup, some social media users suggested that Hough may have been taking sides because her brother Derek is still in competition.

"She said it and now she has to own up to it," said Maks.

It's not clear if Maksim will be back for any more seasons after this one, but fans who thought they'd seen the last of him will no doubt take what they can get.

As for his partner, it's also unclear who he'll be paired with. The celebrity contestants will all be announced next Tuesday on Good Morning America.

Among the rumored contestants? NeNe Leakes and Candace Cameron-Bure.

Even more notably, Erin Andrews, who was partnered with Maksim in Season 10, is coming back this year as host, replacing the fired Brooke Burke-Charvet.

This will be Chmerkovskiy's 14th out of 18 on the long-running ABC series.

Kate Upton and Maksim Chmerkovskiy split up for a number of reasons, some of which might surprise you. The first one, though, is kind of obvious.

“It was the distance. He travels and she travels, and it didn’t work out,” a pal said, adding that the two “were never that serious in the first place.”

Another source begs to differ regarding that second part.

“She liked him and brought him to meet her parents at a football game. She invited him to a lot of family things. She got serious about him quickly."

"He thinks she’s a good person. It just didn’t work out. The fact of the matter is that she is a 21-year-old girl and Maks is 33,” added the insider.

Our source says Maks “panicked” when Kate Upton went apartment-hunting in Manhattan’s Flatiron District to be near his Fort Lee, N.J., residence.

That's when she got the message, and called it off.

"They are really good friends still and speak all the time, but their schedules just made it too difficult and it fell apart," an insider says of the split.

"[Maks] has a lot of respect for her, but it just wasn't working anymore."

The twosome went public with their romance in September, holding hands during a walk in New York City, months after they started dating on the DL.

"We enjoy each other's company very much," said Maks of Kate Upton. "She's a great girl that I never thought anything romantic like this could have happened."

"She's just an amazing person. We have an incredible time together, and, you know, I definitely didn't see that coming and I think neither did she."

We're sorry they split up ... but now you too can have an incredible time, watching the selected Kate Upton videos we put together after the jump:

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is returning to the Dancing with the Stars ballroom as a guest judge for Monday's semifinals, according to reports.

Yes, he will be handing out the scores instead of complaining about them.

The DWTS pro will be three alongside regular judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli for the show's first-ever "plugged / unplugged" night.

Chmerkovskiy, who appeared on Broadway in "Forever Tango" and heads up six dance studios in the New York area, was long a fixture on DWTS.

He said he was always open to returning one day, so it was not a bitter parting of ways. "I never walked away, or said 'I'm never coming back,'" he said.

Kate Upton and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are dating, sources confirm. And by sources, we mean our own eyes, as the couple was spotted holding hands!

Here's the model and former DWTS legend in the West Village in New York City:

Amid rumors going around this summer that Kate Upton and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were an item, the pair were spotted in July on a secretive dinner date.

Looks like that date turned into something more. Or at least some more dates!

Upton, 21, was just named 2013 Model of the Year (yes, that's a thing) and covers this month's special 100th-year anniversary Vanity Fair issue.

The Bad Boy of the Ballroom, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, may not be done with Dancing With the Stars after all, according to ABC's President of Entertainment.

Paul Lee said that after a one-season hiatus, the 33-year-old Ukrainian sensation may be returning for the upcoming 17th season of the hit competition.

"Maks is part of the family," Lee said at the Television Critics Association's press tour. "He may well be back. We love having him be part of the show."

This latest news may come to a surprise to fans. In February 2013, Chmerkovskiy explained why his name was left out of the Season 16 cast lineup.

"I just want to set the record straight to all of my amazing fans that I will unfortunately not be returning for this season of Dancing With the Stars," he said.

Kate Upton and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were spotted out and about again this week, this time at the HBO premiere of documentary Casting By in NYC.

"The two did not want to be photographed together," a source tells E! News.

The duo, who tried to avoid cameras, "left the event around midnight and went to Catch sushi bar, that turns into a club. The two partied until the early hours."

Despite their best efforts, the pair was nevertheless snapped in the back seat of a car, rekindling rumors that Upton is dating Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
