Three days after Britney Spears handed her mother a reportedly upsetting letter (or restraining order), Lynne Spears is holding out hope to mend their rift.

"Everything is going to be fine," she told People while out shopping in Kentwood, La. "I've got a strong family, and everything is going to be fine."

Britney Spears and Family

You and husband Jamie also named your second daughter Jamie Lynn. Just saying.

Lynne Spears, who was picking up groceries at a local store on Sunday, said "hopefully" Britney will make it to a family cookout in their hometown for the 4th of July.

Meanwhile, Britney Spears was - take a guess - spending a weekend in L.A., going out Friday night with girlfriends to club Les Deux but appearing subdued as she chatted and danced.

On Sunday she spoke to reporters about Shar Jackson's BFF her mother outside Sushi House Unico in Bel Air, where she had dined alone on edamame and coffee.

"I'm praying for her right now. [I hope] she gets all the help she needs," Britney Spears said.

Ouch! Whether the two can overcome their differences, she said:

"In time, who knows what will happen?"

Britney Spears also insinuated that she likely would not go to her native Kentwood for the holiday, saying:

"I don't know. I like it here."

Well, alright then.

A few days earlier, on Thursday, Spears was snapped by paparazzi handing her mother a piece of paper reported to be a request from an out-of-state lawyer.

According to TMZ, the letter asked that Lynne stay away from Spears' sons Sean Preston, 21 months, and Jayden James, 9 months, if she is taking any medications. Real normal.

As for what may be behind the long rift that left Lynne Spears "brokenhearted," a family friend told People: "I think Britney is angry that her family got involved in getting her into rehab."

Heck, wouldn't you be? She's totally fine on her own, y'all!

Although the rift between Britney Spears and her mother, Lynne Spears, has been growing for quite some time, it was Lynne's budding relationship with Kevin Federline's previous ex, Shar Jackson, that pushed it over the edge.

While Britney Spears, 25, was at Promises Center in Malibu following her nutso head-shaving incident and umbrella rage, Lynne was getting to know "the other woman."

Distraught Britney Spears

That's what she considered Shar Jackson, K-Fed's original source of baby mama drama, to be. But the two soon got, like, real close.

It all started when Lynne dropped grandsons Sean Preston, 21 months, and Jayden James, 9 months, at the Tarzana, Calif., home of their dad, Kevin Federline.

Shar Jackson, 30, who also has two children with Kevin Federline, 29, was there as well, and ended up watching Spears' sons in addition to her kids.

After meeting, Lynne Spears and Shar "started talking all the time," a pal of Shar says. As a result, when she learned of this, Britney Spears became enraged.

"She decided she had to cut out everyone who she thought was using her, and that included her parents," says a source close to the crotch shot and nipple slip queen.

Jackson confirmed the friendship this week, saying, Lynne Spears is "a really nice lady... It was easy for us to get along once we met."

She also thinks it's time for Lynne and Britney Spears to work it out.

"They are mother and daughter. They need to talk already."

Well put, Shar. Well put. T.H. Gossip's only other question? Has Lynne Spears ever chilled with Dina Lohan? No one compares to that self-promoting, pastic train wreck, but there could be a potential BFF-ship there. Just a thought.

Heck, Britney might even name her new album after Lindsay Lohan! OMG!

Lynne Spears, Britney SpearsFor the first time since their reported rift over Britney Spears' stint in rehab, her mother, Lynne Spears, has broken her silence.

Guess it's a day for stories about bad parents.

We already talked about Paris Hilton's visiting her in the can. Now Lynne Spears is ready to talk about some of the difficulties her famous daughter has faced in the past year.

"You go into a time in your life with the world watching and you are just trying to figure yourself out," Lynne Spears told Us Weekly.

"It's sad that the whole world had to watch Britney make mistakes that all of us have made at one time or another."

We're not sure all of us have provided paparazzi with repeated crotch shots and nipple slips. Nor has anyone on our staff ever slept with J.R. Rotem. Anyway.

Earlier this year, the pop star found herself in a downward spiral ending a wild public meltdown that featured video footage of her shaving her head in a California salon and lashing out against a photographer's car, attacking with an umbrella.

She checked into rehab shortly thereafter.

It turns out, to Lynne Spears' dismay, that Britney Spears' famous blond locks weren't the only thing the mother of two cut off at that time.

"She decided that she had to cut out everyone who was using her, and that included her parents," says a source close to Britney Spears.

The estrangement was especially hard on the pop star's mother.

"Lynne was like Britney's best friend, so when Britney started partying and her mom tried to control her, she got mad," a family source says.

Happily, the two reconciled June 10, speaking for the first time in months. Quietly, Jayden James' grandma and mama are taking the first steps back toward a peaceful relationship.

Despite the hardship, Lynne says she and her daughter are coping.

"Britney Jean Spears is the sweetest and the most sensitive and loving of all my children," the mother of three - Brit has a brother, Brian, and a sister, Jamie Lynn Spears - tells Us Weekly.

"She's just figuring things out."

Wonder if she's figured out that Shar Jackson is pregnant again!

Britney Spears must be feeling really forgiving lately.

She certainly seems like she's in the mood to mend fences. First, celebrity gossip spies report that she and Kevin Federline are making nice.

Classic Crazy Britney

Now, the word on the street is that Britney and her estranged mother, Lynne Spears, secretly met up in Los Angeles to resolve their ongoing feud.

Rollin' in her black Mercedes, Britney Spears arrived first, escorted by her huge ass bodyguards. Britney's mom, hiding in the back of a car, followed 20 minutes later.

All parties departed her estate approximately an hour later, appearing to be in good spirits. And surprisingly, we don't mean Britney was liquored up.

Things have been strained between Britney and Lynne - so much so, in fact, that according rumors, she refused to see her mother - on Mothers Day - even though Lynne was hospitalized with pneumonia.

According to Splash News, after bouncing back from her sickness, Lynne had been scheduled for what was believed to be a tell all about her insane daughter on The View - but at the last minute, she pulled the pin.

We assume they mean "pulled the plug." Unless Splash News is saying she tossed a grenade at Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Of course, many View-ers probably wish this were the case.

The Hollywood Gossip been wondering why Lynne canceled her June 6 visit to the former TV home of Rosie O'Donnell. A personal appeal from Jayden James, perhaps?

We're glad to hear that this Spears family feud is being resolved, though we're a little skeptical of the recent reports that there is a Kevin Federline reconciliation in the works.

Britney, please post one of your self-indulgent, whiney and philosophical fan letters on your official site and weigh in on this celebrity gossip.

Taking a break from her incredibly busy schedule of tanning, shopping and taking dance classes, Britney Spears jutted off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for some desperately needed rest and relaxation over the weekend.

Britney is hiding out until after her mother, Lynne Spears, appears on The View Wednesday June 6. It's nice to see that the mother of Britney and Jamie Lynn is doing better after being hospitalized with pneumonia on Mother's Day, and it will be interesting to see what the eldest member of the Spears clan has to say to Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her co-hosts.

Britney, of course, blames Lynne (along with former manager Larry Rudolph) for "making her" go to rehab, and wouldn't go see her at the hospital. Which makes perfect sense.

Does she think going to rehab was a bad thing? Hey, she got some ass there (from Howie Day), and it isn't as if the experience changed much as far as her partying. Come on.

Time to bury the hatchet, Britney. Sure, your folks pushed you so hard they drove you insane - but they're trying to help now. Plus, Jayden James wants to see Grandma!

Anyway, here are some pictures of Britney in a thong bikini from her little Mexico trip. No clue who the chick at right is. Possibly her cousin Allie.

We know it's probably just the low photo quality, but Britney's once-hot rear end has seen better days. Might want to cut out the junk food, girl. Yikes.

Moments after shaving her own head in Esther's Haircutting Studio in Tarzana, Calif., a teary-eyed Britney Spears blurted out:

"'My mom is going to freak!'"

Britney Spears, Blender Magazine

Yeah, she's not having a nervous breakdown or anything. We're sure Lynne Spears' opinion matters a lot, given her strong, steadying influence over Brit in the last few months. Really, after you daughter gives the entire world a crotch shot, is a shaved head really going to shock you? And do you care?

Apparently Britney was a little shocked by it herself. After the deed was done, salon owner Esther Tognozzi, who says she tried to talk the future phone sex fiend out of her radical 'do, the troubled pop star was inconsolable.

Spears stopped by the San Fernando Valley salon at around 7 p.m. Friday night after it had closed, Tognozzi tells People Magazine.

Accompanied by her bodyguards, Spears walked in with a hooded sweatshirt covering her head and told Tognozzi, "'I want you to buzz my hair off.'"

Tognozzi first tried to talk Spears out of going through with it, then after refusing the pop star's request, Spears said, "'Then I'll do it.'"

During Spears's visit, which came after news of her short rehab stint broke, Tognozzi describes the pop star as having "no expression."

Kind of how Isaac Cohen described her after having sex with him.

According to TMZ, Jayden James' bald mama is already having a serious case of shaver's remorse - Britney was spotted yesterday hiding her dome with a blonde wig and a cap.

Meanwhile, E! Online reports Britney was lounging poolside at the Mondrian Hotel yesterday afternoon wearing a short blonde hair piece, a green cap, and a mismatched bikini bottom and top.

"It didn't look so hot, and she was smoking cigarette after cigarette," says E! Online's eyewitness.

You could say she's wigging out. We never saw that coming.

Britney clearly needs to heed the words of estranged husband, K-Fed, her V-card recipient, Justin Timberlake, her former personal assistant and everyone else - get help, biatch!

A lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court claims that Britney Spears and her mother, Lynne, are responsible for serious injuries to a member of the paparazzi.

The paparazzo (which is apparently a word) was allegedly struck by an SUV carrying the Spears clan. The incident supposedly occurred in June 2004, when Lynne, Britney and younger sister Jamie Lynn left a Santa Monica pet store.

Britney Spears and her mom Lynne out and about

A number of paparazzi, including the plaintiff, Cullen Reavley, crowded around the vehicle. The lawsuit states that the car is owned by Lynne, who was also the one driving. Reavley (below), who may or may not have been switched from twin brother Will Ferrell at birth, fell to the ground and claims Lynne ran over his foot.

Paramedics and police were called and Reavley was taken to the hospital, but initially determined Lynne Spears committed no wrongdoing and she was not ticketed.

In the lawsuit filed at the Beverly Hills Courthouse claims Reavley has "head, neck, back and trunk" injuries, as well as others to extremities. The lawsuit does not state whether the junk in said trunk sustained any damage. The plaintiff also alleges general mental, physical and nervous pain and suffering, and that the incident will result in his permanent disability.

In addition to Britney, Reavley is suing Lynne and Britney Touring, Inc. for unspecified damages, in excess of $25,000. What the hell is Lynne and Britney Touring, Inc.? Who the heck knows. The lesson learned: Don't stand in the front of an SUV driven by Britney's crazy cellphone squawking mom.
