Lindsay Lohan's highly touted appearance on Saturday Night Live was met with mixed reviews, at best. But that didn't stop her from earning big ratings for NBC.

The 25-year-old actress, who has hosted the late night show four times, brought the program to #1 in it time slot, beating out all other shows on major networks.

Additionally, Lindsay‘s episode is now counted as the second-most watched SNL of the season, with NBA legend Charles Barkley taking the top spot in 2011-12.

Lindsay on SNL

A platinum blonde Lohan blew off the initial negative reviews and celebrated her heavily panned hosting gig at an after-party with the rest of the SNL cast.

The star whose acting ability was called into question last night, stepped out in a trendy black and white ensemble and appeared oblivious to the criticism.

In an effort to show support, Lindsay's mother Dina Lohan joined in, as did SNL regular Kristen Wiig, producer Lorne Michaels and musical guest Jack White.

While Lindsay hosting SNL was supposed to help her comeback, it was met with scathing press instead. She appeared nervous, stiff and reliant on cue cards.

Many Twitter users were even more critical than the media. Wrote one: "This may be the first time Lindsay Lohan had trouble doing lines." Ba-dum-ching.

Lindsay Lohan hosted Saturday Night Live last night, and ... meh.

We wouldn't say she bombed last by any means, but we expected better. Maybe all the hype and expectations were just too much, or the show itself just isn't that good.

In any case, it left something to be desired from start to finish.

Several late changes - such as ditching a singing monologue in favor of one with cameos from Jimmy Fallon and Jon Hamm (above) - may not have helped matters.

Some critics and fans are calling it an epic fail (EW asks in its headline if she was the worst host all season), but people are also predisposed to hate on Lohan.

Linds did look a bit tired, worn out and nervous, but that's to be expected, and she can't take all the blame for mediocre skits. Do you agree? Vote in our poll:

Lindsay Lohan's upcoming appearance on SNL this weekend has already been worth it for these promos, with the actress standing beside Kenan Thompson.

In one promo after another, Lohan pokes fun at herself - with actual comedic timing and delivery, and with cast member Thompson is a witting sidekick.

Among other things, Lohan claims to be homeless, and says she just wishes people knew more about her personal life. There's even a Lindsanity reference.

Lindsay Lohan has been on the receiving end of jokes from Saturday Night Live for years, and she's ready to embrace that fact when she hosts the show this weekend.

Rather than trying to keep her career downward spiral and brushes with the law off limits, Lohan has reportedly made it clear that nothing is out of bounds on SNL.

Lindsay has been dying to do the show as a way to re-establish her career and reached out to creator / executive producer Lorne Michaels personally to make it happen.

Banging it Out

According to our sources, Lindsay is aware of her own absurdity and plans on using all the unpleasantness from the last couple of years as fodder for the show.

Lohan wants to show she's a good sport who's "in on the joke."

It's unclear what they have planned, but there could be any number of skits involving DUIs, alleged necklace heists, jail stints, mug shots ... and on and on.

Give a girl credit for being able to poke fun at herself at least.

THG Asks!

Welcome to THG Asks, a feature in which two of THG's celebrity gossip experts debate topical issues in the entertainment world and you decide who wrote the winning argument!

Today, THG Asks: Should Lindsay Lohan host SNL?

YES. By Free Britney

I can hear my colleague now. Lindsay Lohan is just a train wreck, he'll say. She's not even in a movie or TV show! This is all just a ratings grab! Yup, all true. You finished?

Saturday Night Live is a TV program. Its purpose: Bring in famous guest hosts who help deliver laughs and ratings that will deliver advertising revenue. Lindsay will do both.

In three previous stints as host, Lohan was terrific. She's lost her way in recent years, as I'll be the first to point out. But she's still an actress by trade. A decent one even!

Why wouldn't Lorne Michaels, who she looks up to as a father figure, not give her another shot? Besides, given her ability to poke fun at herself, they'll have great material.

And since when is SNL the embodiment of class, the zenith of comedy, the entertainment bellwether that determines which stars are deserving a broader platform?

I'm a lifelong SNL fan, but the idea that it has standards is laughable. LiLo's young, hip, topical and talented, and will likely do a better job than most by all measures.

She and SNL want to work together. End of story. You don't have to feel compassion for Lindsay or like her. But don't make this out to be some unfair travesty.

Crazy Lohan

NO. By Hilton Hater

At this point in her "career," there are only two reasons for Lindsay Lohan to appear on television:

  1. If a court date is televised.
  2. If a show is in desperate need of ratings.

Because Saturday Night Live is neither a news program nor a series that has to worry about cancellation, the decision to bring Lohan on board as host is downright pathetic.

This is someone who has not starred in a hit movie since 2004. She has not appeared on a TV show since 2008. She has no album to promote, no reason to be in the spotlight at all except in an attempt to rehabilitate her image.

And why should an institution such as SNL assist the trainwreck with that mission? Since when is the iconic sketch comedy show in the business of featuring celebrities that are famous only for their run-ins with the law?

Lohan is not an actress, athlete or a musician. She's nothing but a DUI and probation violation waiting to happen. Now she will be sharing the same stage that has been frequented by Presidential candidates, foreign dignitaries and Alec Baldwin.

For shame, Lorne Michaels. For shame.

Lindsay Lohan will host Saturday Night Live March 3, and the 25-year-old landed the plum gig without the help of her mother or any other management figure.

An insider close to the 25-year-old says Dina Lohan, who used to manage her LiLo, “had nothing to do" with helping her land the late night comedy show slot.

The actress personally reached out to SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, whom she reportedly sees as a father figure, about the hosting gig.

The two promptly hashed out details for the March 3 show.

Lindsay Lohan's Chest

It will be her fourth time on the show, and her first since 2006.

The oft-troubled Lohan, who hasn't acted much (at all) in recent years, will be off probation on March 29 if she fulfills her court-ordered obligations by then.

Always a big if, but girl has been turning things around lately, earning rave reviews for her community service and racking up one modeling gig after another.

Hosting SNL could be a great way to continue her career rehabilitation, if she does well and shows the ability to poke fun at herself, which she has in the past.

Lindsay Lohan has become something of a joke of late.

This is so obvious that you'd think the troubled star would know how to take one, but this is Lindsay Lohan we're talking about. Logic does not apply.

Whether she's suing E*Trade or going off on Glee, LiLo and her camp indignantly bristle at any comedic moment at the walking punchline's expense.

Latest case in point: Miley Cyrus on SNL!

After the above monologue, Lohan fired off an email to Saturday Night Live honcho Lorne Michaels, expressing her disappointment that he allowed it.

Lindsay considered Lorne "a mentor and a father figure" and felt betrayed that he'd actually let Miley Cyrus take shots at her. Get a grip, you tool.

Miles' monologue jingle in question was harmless and self-deprecating:

"I never stole a necklace or got a DUI .. never cheated on wife like that golfer guy," she sang in her ode to Lohan, Tiger Woods and herself, "So what if you can see a little boob from the side ... I'm sorry if I'm not perfect."

So chill out, Lindsay. There are plenty of side boob jokes to go around.
