Actavis - the drug company responsible for the codeine-rich cough syrup used to make "sizzurp" - announced today that they will no longer manufacture the famous serum, which has become the alleged drug of choice for celebs like Justin Bieber and 2 Chainz.

Bieber was reportedly busted drinking sizzurp in March of this year and countless rappers have had run-ins with the law and near-death experiences as a result of the so-called "purple drank."

Rapper Lil Wayne allegedly overdosed on sizzurp  last year, suffering seizures and nearly lapsing into a coma.

Now, Actavis says it's putting an end to the days of negative media reports about the sizzurp-related antics of rappers and wannabe-thug pop stars.

Everybody chill the bleep out.

That's the message coming from friends of Lil Wayne, whose fans feared the worst Friday amid reports that he was in critical condition and being read his last rites.

While the rapper's camp has slammed speculation that he was near death - T.I. put TMZ on blast - peeps close to him do acknowledge that he has issues.

"TMZ was so off base. Wayne is fine," an insider dished. "He drank too much sizzurp to get a better high. He needs rehab but he's not close to death or anything."

"He's better now and just coming down off the high."

Lil Wayne is reportedly in critical condition after suffering more seizures. The rapper was rushed to the ICU at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

The rapper was hospitalized Tuesday night after suffering multiple seizures, but was released Wednesday after he stabilized. Today, he did not stabilize.

Wayne was rushed to the hospital again, and placed in restraints in the ICU because he was shaking uncontrollably. He was then placed in an induced coma.

Earlier this afternoon, he was breathing through tubes.

Lil Wayne is admitting he has/had a substance abuse problem ... specifically sizzurp.

The rapper claims he frequently pounded the codeine-based drink, often spoken about by artists in his genre in an attempt to sound hard, but only 'cause he was "sick."

Wayne spilled his guts in a new documentary-style video shot by one of his pals, saying he first started drinking the stuff when idol Pimp C would often rap about it.

Pimp C died of an overdose of sizzurp in 2007.

Weezy claims he relied on the gangsta beverage as he became more famous, saying he needed the drink to help him cope with the pressure of being a celebrity.
