It very well might be over for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.

The pair met while filming The Last Song and started dating about a year ago. But, without offering up many details, a source tells Gossip Cop (a reliable site whose purpose is to call BS on illegitimate stories) that the two broke up "“pretty recently."

Has Miley Cyrus peaced out of her relationship with Liam Hemsworth?

A friend of Liam's confirms that he's single, while a rep for Miley has reportedly said the same to Us Weekly.

This isn't the first time rumors of a split have gained traction. Cyrus was forced to take to her blog in June to shoot down a National Enquirer article that proved to be false - or, perhaps, just premature.

We may criticize Miley (often), but we wish her nothing but the best in her personal life. Perhaps she and Liam will soon get married, have children and settle down away from the spotlight. Far, far, far away from the spotlight.

According to The National Enquirer, the singer herself has confirmed that she and her 20-year old boyfriend are on a "break." This comes on the heels of reports that say Liam moved out of the mansion he and Cyrus were sharing last month.

The basis for this alleged fight and subsequent break up? Miley was jealous of Hemsworth's rise to fame, while Liam was sick of Miley's parents interfering in their relationship.

An insider close to the situation told The Enquirer: "Miley, her family and all her baggage are too much for [Liam] to handle."

Is this a reputable newspaper? Not typically. But let's remember: it was considered for a Pulitzer Prize as the first source to break the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter scandal. It's been on a truthful roll lately.

If Cyrus and Hemsworth really have split, it shouldn't be too hard for Miley to find a new man. Just look at the way she dresses these days.

** UPDATE: Miley has responded to this rumor: "Just wanna clear up a rumor. Liam and I did not break. EVER! We are so happy and a lot of that has to do with the amazing relationship he has with my family."

It's been a controversial month for Miley Cyrus.

First, the singer released the official musical video for "Can't Be Tamed," sending a clear message to anyone that viewed it: So long, Hannah Montana!

Then, another video landed the singer in hot water: she was filmed grinding and bumping with movie producer Adam Shankman.

Through it all, though, Liam Hemsworth has remained by her side. The Australian actor told Hollywood Life that "Can't Be Tamed" is a "great" video and:

“Everyone gets criticism, it’s kind of what comes with this job... everybody’s trying to bring you down. She’s got a good head on her shoulders.”

As for his relationship with Miley, Liam added:

“We get along great, she’s a great girl. We work great together."

Apparently, Liam's vocabulary is as varied as his girlfriend's wardrobe choices. Still, these two do appear to be a stable couple and we can't knock Hemsworth for standing by his gal.

It's unclear why they were there, but Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth visited a medical facility in Beverly Hills yesterday.

We often joke about this pair (Sample: Why did Miley Cyrus cross the street? To get to Liam Hemsworth!), but we hope everything is okay for both of them.

There was a positive result from the doctor's appointment at least: it resulted in a pair of lollipops for the couple, as each is seen sucking away below:

There's even better news for Liam this week: reports indicate he's been offered the role in Northern Lights that was originally given to Taylor Lautner before that actor dropped out.

"The offer is true, but who knows if he'll do it," a source said about the film, which centers around a quartet of extreme-flying pilots.

Miley Cyrus' first kiss with Liam Hemsworth wasn't the most tender of moments. It unfolded on camera – in front of an entire crew – during The Last Song.

Not that the Australian actor was disappointed when it happened.

"We turned up on set the very first day and originally it was just a scene where we were running through the water and splashing and having fun," he said.

All in her first movie acting gig. No wonder Miley's quitting music.

"And halfway through the scene, the director yelled 'Kiss!' And we got thrown into a kiss on the boat," he recalled on Ryan Seacrest's KISS-FM radio show.

While it was "hard not to get close" to his costar while filming in Tybee Island, Ga., "It was good, 'cause, you know, [you] get the first one out of the way."

"We were filming together every day, and hanging out every day," Liam added. "We really didn’t have any other friends down there, so we just hung with each other."

It also helped that Miley Cyrus' mother, Tish, whom Liam Hemsworth described as "the boss," gave a stamp of approval on the budding relationship early. Her dad?

Well, Billy Ray another pressing question for Hemsworth, which Seacrest relayed: "How serious is it gonna get?" Hemsworth's reply was simply: "It's pretty serious."

Gulp.

Recently, the couple stepped out for the first time as a couple on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of The Last Song, which hits theaters on Wednesday.

Hemsworth said he's still getting used to the media spotlight – not to mention attention that comes with a high-profile girlfriend: "It's all very new to me," he said.

New and hot. Don't you think these two make a great couple? Much as we are often critical of Miley, it seems like Liam's been a good, grounding influence on her.

Dressed in Calvin Klein, Liam joked that life got a little tougher after Cyrus confessed to Ellen DeGeneres that she fell for him after he opened a door for her.

"After all that, there's so much pressure for me to be opening doors for everyone now," the Australian stud muffin told E! Online. "It's just too much pressure."

Liam Hemsworth is still adjusting to the attention from female fans, who have been chasing after him when he attends premieres and screenings, and so forth.

"That was my first experience of the craziness," he said. "It's flattering. Funny, too."

Next stop on The Last Song PR tour is Europe with premieres next month in London, Rome and Munich. Let's just hope Liam and Miley are still together by then.

"I lost him so, he's not being the best boyfriend right now," Cyrus, who also performed on American Idol this week, joked after getting separated from her man.

"The whole deal was we were going to be walking together," the 17-year-old added. "But then I lost him first thing because he started saying hello to everyone."

Yeesh. Better step it up, Liam.

"They loved her," Liam told Michael Yo on E!'s Daily 10, referring to a recent trip the couple took to the actor's hometown in Australia. He added:

"It was really cool to show Miley where I'm from and how I grew up, and it's a completely different world to where she's from. We don't have shopping centers or traffic lights or anything like that, where I live at least."

Cyrus didn't seem to mind the changes.

"It was awesome, I really like Australia," she said. "You know what? The media's really cool there, too. Even though there's paparazzi, they kind of stay their distance; it was kind of like Nashville by the sea actually, the town he's from."

Hemsworth, meanwhile, was asked about meeting his girlfriend for the first time and replied:

“It was funny, working with Miley was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. From the first time we read, it was like I had known her before.”
