Lee DeWyze Dropped from Record Label

He won season nine of American Idol, but Lee DeWyze has lost out on a record deal.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, RCA Records CEO Peter Edge has confirmed that DeWyze is no longer a member of that label, making him the latest Idol champion to have trouble finding post-show success. Lee's debut album, 2010’s "Live It Up," sold just over 168,000 copies.

“The best Idol results come from doing great A&R," Edge said. "The TV platform provides amazing coverage, but if you don't have the right songs, it doesn't really mean a whole hell of a lot, because we've seen American Idol winners come and go in a heartbeat."

Those still on the label include Kris Allen, David Cook, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.

Lee DeWyze and Jonna Walsh: Engaged!

Lee DeWyze is officially a champion in music and in love.

The American Idol victor proposed to Jonna Walsh on July 16 and you'll never guess what she said: YES!

The question was asked over champagne on a private yacht at Disney World, according to People, as fireworks exploded overhead.

“Jonna is a Disney freak,” DeWyze said. “They were playing love songs on the boat and I got down on my knee and asked her. I had a speech prepared but it all went out the window so I just asked her. She started crying and I said, ‘Is that a yes?'"

The pair met on the set of Lee's music video for “Sweet Serendipity" and will get married in the fall of 2012.

American Idol Producer to Lee DeWyze: LIAR!

We didn't see this feud coming.

Just hours after the season finale of American Idol, producer Nigel Lythgoe called out season nine winner Lee DeWyze for not appearing on stage and handing the trophy to Scotty McCreery.

Lee's response to the accusation that he snubbed the show? No one asked him until the final moments.

But now Lythgoe has fired back again, basically calling DeWyze a liar. He Tweeted today: “True, he wasn’t asked to sing, but Lee knows he was asked to present the trophy [to the new Idol] a week before.”

The producer then said he didn't "wish to continue" this feud, but it's safe to assume DeWyze will reply to this charge.

Did Lee DeWyze Snub Scotty McCreery, American Idol?

In the wake of Scotty McCreery's American Idol triumph, the country is asking multiple questions today?

  1. Did he deserve to win? It's debatable.
  2. Are Lauren and Scotty dating? No.
  3. Did Lee DeWyze snub the show last night? Sort of.

Typically, the previous winner ends up on the stage to congratulate the new champ and hand him/her a trophy. But DeWyze was seated in the fifth row at the finale, and Ryan Seacrest never even mentioned his name.

What happened?

According to producer Nigel Lythgoe, DeWyze refused to be a good sport. The producer Tweeted today: "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he's been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy."

Lee DeWyze Returns to American Idol, Performs New Single

Lee DeWyze returned to the stage that made him famous last night.

The season nine American Idol champion, whose album sales have been less than stellar, performed a new single ("Beautiful Like You") and offered advice to the remaining finalists: "Just remember why you tried out in the first place. You guys are fine, no matter what happens."

Inspiring words... and an impressive performance? You tell us:

Lee DeWyze Album Sales: Disastrous

Lee DeWyze seems like a very nice guy and certainly possess a lot of music talent. But these numbers speak for themselves:

The American Idol champion moved 39,000 copies of his debut CD in its first week of sales, making him the least successful Idol finalist in history. Not just champion, mind you. But finalist. Period.

Here's a look at the first-week sales figures, and Billboard chart ranking, for each American Idol winner and runner-up, over the show's first eight seasons. Best of luck, Crystal Bowersox, with your debut album, which drops on December 14.

First Lee DeWyze Single: Listen Now!

Lee DeWyze seems like a very nice guy and possesses perfectly solid music talent.

Then again, this combination hasn't resulted in much professional success for the two American Idol winners that preceded Lee, David Cook and Kris Allen.

Will DeWyze enjoy a different outcome when his debut CD comes out on November 16? We'll see. In the meantime, the guitar-playing crooner has released his first single. Listen to "Sweet Serendipity" now and chime in with your take on it:

Lee DeWyze Previews Debut Single, Album

It will have been six months since American Idol ended when Lee DeWyze releases his debut CD, but the season nine champion can't for the world to hear it.

"Putting out an album on a major label is truly a dream come true," DeWyze says. "I'm excited for all the people who supported me throughout Idol to hear what I can do with my own songs. The album shows a whole different side of me and I'm so proud of it."

American Idol Winner: Lee DeWyze!

It was a slow, but steady rise to the top for Lee DeWyze.

But it all paid off tonight, as the laid back rocker with the sexy, scratchy voice was crowned season nine champion on American Idol!

DeWyze peaked at the ideal time, bringing the crowd and judges to their feet with his recent rendition of "Hallelujah" last week. He then carried that momentum into the finale and defeated a worthy competitor, Crystal Bowersox.

On the Finale

A choked-up DeWyze accepted Ryan Seacrest's congratulations after the announcement and proceeded to sing his cover of "Beautiful Day," which will soon hit radio stations around the country.
