Lauryn Hill's sentencing hearing Monday saw the singer's attorney claim that she's paid off all of her debts - more than $970,000 in state and federal taxes.
Was that enough to keep the singer out of the slammer?
No. She'll be headed to federal prison for three months!
A Newark, N.J., judge, in dishing out the sentence of Lauryn Hill, said after she does the three months, three more months of house arrest will follow.
After that, she must do nine months of supervised release.
Singer Lauryn Hill just pleaded guilty to a federal crime, admitting she did not file several years' worth of tax returns in the past decade, and failed to do so on purpose no less.
The 37-year-old faces up to three years in prison as a result. Hill failed to pay up in 2005, 2006, and 2007, when she earned more than $1.8 million.
When the judge asked if Hill "intentionally and willingly" failed to file the returns, she said simply, "Yes." The Fugees frontwoman was released on $150,000 bail.
In addition to the three years behind bars, Hill could be hit with $75,000 in fines. Wonder if she can write that off to help reduce her tax liability for 2012.
Hill welcomed her sixth child in 2011; her first five were with her longtime partner Rohan Marley. Her sentencing hearing is set for November.

Now, the singer is facing controversy in the professional realm.
According to guitarist Jay Gore, the singer pretty much sucks as a person. He has filed a lawsuit against Hill in which he accuses her of berating fellow musicians and stiffing them out of payment.
"After shows, Hill would demand that the musicians and road support personnel attend meetings where she would engage in a person-by-person critique and berating," Gore writes in court documents, adding: "At one point, Hill made a statement in front of the tour personnel to the effect that 'I can't believe I am paying you fools, you should be paying me.'"
Gore is demanding $20,000 and claims others have been "mistreated by Ms. Hill in a similar manner."
