In a word, to answer the question posed in our headline: No.

A week after American Idol champion Scotty McCreery became the first series winner since 2003 to take his debut album to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, runner-up Lauren Alaina fell to Evanescence, whose self-titled third CD sold 127,000 copies in its first week, good enough for first place.

McCreery’s Clear As Day slipped down into fourth place following a 55 percent drop in sales, but managed to still beat out Alaina's "Wildflower." We've listed the week's top 10 below:

  1. Evanescence, Evanescence – 127,000 copies
  2. Adele, 21 – 111,000
  3. Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist – 91,000
  4. Scotty McCreery, Clear As Day – 88,000
  5. Lauren Alaina, Wildflower – 69,000
  6. Tony Bennett, Duets II – 54,000
  7. Ryan Adams, Ashes and Fire – 49,000
  8. Lady Antebellum, Own The Night – 47,000
  9. Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV – 45,000
  10. Martina McBride, Eleven – 40,000

Scotty McCreery has set a difficult bar for Lauren Alaina to reach.

The American Idol sold almost 200,000 of his debut album last week, earning the top spot in the Billboard 200 list. Now, it's Alaina's turn to see if she can come near that total, as the runner-up has released "Wildflower," a CD she promoted with an appearance on Good Morning America Tuesday.

Below, watch and listen to Alaina belt out a pair of tracks from the album. Can she top Scotty? The rivalry is on once again!

"I feel like it has a flavor for everybody," Alaina says. "There are fast songs for people who like up-tempos that you can dance to, and there are also tearjerkers for people who like slower ballads. I tried to get songs that are all a little different so that we could bring a fresh feel to each and every song."

Here is a look at the CD's complete track list:

  1. "Georgia Peaches"
  2. "Growing Her Wings"
  3. "Tupelo"
  4. "The Middle"
  5. "Like My Mother Does"
  6. "She's a Wildflower"
  7.  "I'm Not One of Them"
  8. "The Locket"
  9. "Eighteen Inches"
  10. "One of Those Boys"
  11. "Funny Thing About Love"

You might say Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina have officially made it in the country music business.

The American Idol finalists - both of whom are faring very well on the charts - took the stage Friday night at Tennessee's famed Grand Ole Opry.

Alaina went first, covering "Blue" by LeAnn Rimes and then going into her first single, "Like My Mother Does."

From there, Scotty went with "I Love You This Big" and the George Strait track "Check Yes or No." Listen to the audio versions of all these performances below:

Lauren Alaina may not have won American Idol, but she's already proving formidable on the music charts with her first single, "Like My Mother Does."

The track entered Billboard's all-genre Hot 100 chart at No. 20, in addition to No. 9 on the trade's Digital Songs chart, with 121,204 single downloads sold.

This impressive feat marks the highest debut for an Idol runner-up in six years, besting a group that includes David Archuleta and Adam Lambert.

"This is so awesome!" Lauren Alaina said. "American Idol has changed my life, so I'm excited that the songs I performed on there are doing so well."

"I can't believe that I have a song out on country radio, much less that so many stations started playing it right away. I can't wait to get out and meet everybody and thank them personally for playing my song."

Something tells us she'll have time. This girl will be around awhile.

Both finalists have recorded studio versions of songs they sang on the Tuesday night finale - "I Love You This Big" for Scotty and "Like My Mother Does" for Lauren - and each will soon be available on iTunes and blasted in cars around the country.

With Scotty and Lauren both entering the country music industry, this likely won't be the last time their singles compete. Listen to both official renditions below and cast your vote between these two once more...
