Katy Perry's "Roar" has won the battle of the new hit pop singles, at least in their opening week, outpacing Lady Gaga's latest release, "Applause."

Perry is a champion, as proclaimed, and her fans' collective "Roar" has propelled her to more than 525,000 downloads of her latest mega-single.

Somewhere, Perez Hilton is celebrating so hard.

That's compared to an estimated 200,000 to 225,000 sales expected for Lady Gaga, Billboard reports. So is "Applause" more like a slow clap?

The release of today's Lady Gaga "Applause" music video might help her cause ("Roar" doesn't have one yet), but for now, Katy is winning big time.

Maybe Little Monsters didn't satisfy (people, or expectations).

Lady Gaga may or may not be getting stalked by Perez Hilton, but she's definitely embarking on a full-scale media blitz to promote her new song "Applause."

And its new music video, which she dropped today on GMA! Watch:

Baring plenty of skin and face paint, Gaga dances her arse off, giving the also-just-released Chris Brown "Love More" music video a run for its money.

Gaga wears typically crazy getups throughout, including one rather mermaid-esque costume, while rolling around in a provocative manner ... standard.

What do you think of the song, and its video? Is Lady Gaga back and better than ever? Or is this a subpar effort not worthy of such insane hype?

Lady Gaga and Perez Hilton are immersed in an EPIC Twitter feud, with the singer accusing the celebrity gossip mainstay of harassing her and her family.

  • Beautiful Lady Gaga
  • Perez Hilton Picture

Tension between the two had already been running high, but went into overdrive after fan informed Gaga that Hilton was spotted at her apartment building.

Gaga allegedly confirmed that with security, then went OFF on Perez:

"STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"

"DO I NEED TO BE SHOT IN THE HEAD FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT HIM AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT HARASSES ME HAS GONE TOO FAR?

IM A HUMAN BEING…"

"I just want to make music+make people smile. Im sorry to all the fans who are trying to enjoy whats supposed to be a happy time. Gone too far."

Lady Gaga fans are known to be the music world's most rabid, but a series of Craigslist ads regarding how far they'll go to meet her is a little disturbing.

  • Lady Gaga Topless Photograph

This week, the singer announced on Twitter that one lucky Little Monster will be her guest to the iTunes Festival in London if they buy her new song “Applause.”

Simple enough, right? Well, she added that they'll improve their chances of being picked if they buy MULTIPLE copies ... of a digital single on iTunes.

Someone really wants to beat Katy Perry's "Roar" and be #1.

Because many Little Monsters are certifiably insane, a number of them are going to absurd lengths to rack up the most iTunes receipts for "Applause."

Lady Gaga has now an official lyric video for her just-released single, "Applause."

As you might expect, it's as elaborate as most people's actual music videos.

While it doesn't show Lady Gaga topless, that's about all it doesn't show.

On Monday, the same day the single dropped, Gaga headed out to Micky's, a West Hollywood gay bar, and urged fans to meet her there via Twitter.

While there, she filmed clubgoers, drag queens and revelers partying.

And that's how you got this work. Lady Gaga is a woman who lives for the applause - and her fans - and no one can ever take that away from her. Ever.

Question is, though ... will she hear "Applause" for the single itself?

Cher went off on a Twitter tirade this week after her new collaboration with Lady Gaga, "The Greatest Thing," leaked online. The 67-year-old star wrote:

"Just heard TGT! F**K! IT'S NOT EVEN THE RIGHT F**KING VERSION!!! WHY DO PPL THINK THIS KINDA LEAKING S**T IS OK! I'M so Fg DISSAPOINTED."

"Disappointed ... Ive sat on fking song 4 over a yr. NOW SOME ASSHOLE LEAKS WRONG VERSION! GaGa's SINGLE IS GREAT & THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS."

Cher is referring to this week's Lady Gaga "Applause" release, which was also the subject of leaks, as unauthorized snippets hit the web last weekend.

Gaga, who released the song in earnest a week ahead of schedule as a result, replied to Cher with, "THANK YOU FOR HOLDING MY MEATPURSE."

Lady Gaga’s single “Applause” has been released in its entirety following the unauthorized leak of several snippets over the weekend that left her incensed.

Gaga issued a “pop music emergency” alert on Twitter Monday announcing the single, originally set to drop August 19, would instead be available now.

And here it is. See what you think of Lady Gaga's "Applause" ...

“A pop music emergency is underway 911 … summon the monster troupes,” she wrote Monday before revealing the true nature of the emergency.

“Due to hackers an abundance of low/high quality leaks … we issue this pop music emergency … monsters spread the word,” Lady Gaga tweeted.

“My new single ‘Applause’ is out today and can be heard on [U.S.] radio in 15 minutes."

After months of hype and nude photo promotion, a snippet of Lady Gaga's new single "Applause" leaked early this weekend, to the star's consternation.

Due out officially on August 19, the track will serve as the lead single off of Gaga's album ARTPOP. If this brief teaser is legit, the song sounds great:

Despite Gaga's best efforts to keep it under wraps, "Applause" made its way online Saturday, not unlike the similarly timed Katy Perry "Roar" leak.

Gaga took to Twitter on Saturday evening and Sunday morning to speak out against the leak, questioning why people couldn't wait for the official release.

Lady Gaga has revealed the first single from her upcoming album ARTPOP, as well as the cover art that surprisingly does not feature Lady Gaga nude!

"Applause" drops August 19, with ARTPOP in its entirety arriving November 11.

Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the "Applause" cover photo is a theatrical snapshot of the star, her face covered by tears and rainbow makeup.

Gaga tells Women's Wear Daily that the song "is very fun" and "full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause."

Lana Del Rey's song "So Legit" leaked online earlier this week and features some pretty harsh and seemingly direct jabs at pop megastar Lady Gaga.

"So Legit" could have been written as early as 2008 or 2009, according to reports. Whenever she penned it, Del Rey's sultry vocals are unmistakable.

As is the fact that she's laying into the "Born This Way" singer.

Many thought the two New York natives were close friends - and maybe they are, or were - but this paints the opposite picture to say the least.

"Stefani, you suck ... I know you're selling 20 million," Lana Del Rey sings. "Wish they could have seen you when we booed you off in Williamsburg."
