On Thursday, Lady Gaga had to cancel a concert because she was suffering from exhaustion and dehydration. This was sad news for Gaga and her fans.

Fortunately, she was able to make her Oprah Winfrey Show debut the following day, rocking a spiky hairdo with glasses (that Oprah herself copied) ...

Only Lady Gaga could pull off such a look.

The two talked at great length about Gaga's outrageous style (one of our favorite celebrity fashion icons), her upbringing and her musical ambitions.

The hermaphrodite rumors didn't come up, fortunately.

The incomparable Lady Gaga was forced to cancel a concert in West Lafayette, Ind., at the last minute Thursday night after falling ill and being advised to rest.

The cancellation was announced after the two opening acts had already performed, disappointing a sold-out crowd at Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music.

It was no joke, though. Lady Gaga became dizzy and was having trouble breathing an hour before the show - a result of exhaustion and dehydration, she said.

"Can't apologize enough for how sorry I am. I could hear my fans cheering from my dressing room. I begged everyone to let me go onstage," Gaga Tweeted.

"My stage has complicated mechanical elements, everyone was concerned I'd be in danger during the show, since I had passed out earlier. I am devastated."

Lady Gaga had to cancel a show. That's gotta be killing her.

Just to further clear things up, she stated: "I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on mere discomfort."

"I hope you can forgive me,. I love my little monsters more than anything, you are everything to me. I will make-up the performance on January 26."

It truly must have taken something to knock this dynamic performer out, and it had to eat away at her inside. She's like the Kevin Garnett of music.

However, Gaga will rally in time for today's appearance on Oprah, her rep tells E! News. It's a good thing, too - Winfrey is PUMPED about the interview.

She wrote on Twitter: "Just saw Avatar. WOWEE KAZOWEE!! Interviewing James Cameron tomorrow and LADY GAGA. Can't sleep. So excited!"

Well summated, O.

Never one to sit back quietly on the issue, Lady Gaga is gearing up to host a special gay rights gala to support the legalization of same-sex marriage.

She may not be a hermaphrodite herself, but the music superstar has been unwavering in her support of the LGBT community and equal rights for all.

Lady Gaga the Muppet

The Gaga-headlined Hands Up for Marriage Equality benefit will take place on Atlantic City, New Jersey tomorrow. Her world tour kicks off next month.

Expect a powerhouse performance.

Lady Gaga, who led a gay rights march through Washington, D.C., in October, will use the gala to raise funds for four organizations - Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality Pennsylvania, Garden State Equality, and The Power.

The singer said in a statement: "I am honored to raise awareness and money for this cause and all these outstanding organizations. Organizations like these are in the trenches every day working on behalf of all of us, gay or straight"

"Equal and full civil rights are supposed to be for all of us.”

Couldn't agree more, Lady G.

One of 2009's top-selling artists will be taking her act to Australia, Japan and Europe for a series of dates beginning and February and lasting a few months.

Before that, though, the dynamic Lady Gaga will be at Radio City Music Hall to conclude the current segment her tour with four shows starting January 20.

It's a fitting place for the native New Yorker to perform!

If you haven't seen Lady Gaga live before, you're in for a treat. The best way we can sum it up? She does her best to replicate her music videos in concert.

In the case of "Bad Romance," that is quite something ...

We're drinking the Lady Gaga Kool-Aid a little these days.

At first, it was easy to dismiss her as a gimmick who gained more notoriety through her ridiculous outfits than through her music. But five hit songs later?

It's not just her album sales (top five in 2009) that earned our respect. It's how deadly serious she is about, and how hard she works at her unique craft.

Michael Jackson wanted to collaborate with her, and 944 magazine editor Martine Bury goes so far to compare her to the Thin White Duke, David Bowie:

944: Lady Gaga has about that many signature looks.

“Lady Gaga liberates music and fashion the way David Bowie and other Brit Glam rockers did in the '70s," he writes. "Using costume, artifice and drama."

"All the while, she bends gender norms and conventions. But she also one ups everyone with her phenomenal vocal talent and truly unique aesthetic.”

While David Bowie comparisons may be premature for a girl in her early 20s, Lady G is certainly leaving an indelible mark on the industry these days.

Like another rising star of 2009 in American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, we're excited to see if she continues to tap seemingly unlimited potential.

Michael Jackson loved collaborating with other artists. But there is one rumored hermaphrodite he never had a chance to work with but wanted to: Lady Gaga.

Jackson wanted to invite the "Paparazzi" singer to join him on stage during his This Is It tour, his former choreographer Travis Payne told said yesterday.

Ace of Fashion

Payne suggested Janet, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion, Sting, Seal, Bono, and Tina Turner join the tour.

MJ was pleased with the list, but when Payne asked if there was anyone else he wanted to work with, Jackson named one of 2009's breakthrough artists.

"[Michael] literally told me, 'You got to get into her,'" Payne said. "'She's good.'"

Michael Jackson wanted Lady Gaga to join him on tour.

Jackson's admiration for Lady Gaga got Payne interested. "I started listening to her music more and looking at her performances, and I was like, 'You're right.'"

Ironically, in November, Payne received a call from Lady Gaga. He initially thought getting the call was strange, but thought of his conversation with Jackson.

"I told her the story," Payne said. "Of course she was moved by it."

Payne ended up directing and choreographing Lady Gaga at the American Music Awards, as well as her sets on Ellen, The Jay Leno Show, and X-Factor.

Jackson and Lady G both made the top five in 2009 album sales.

Based on how often (and for the outrageous reasons) she appears in our celebrity fashion section, one might say Lady Gaga resembles a cartoon character as is.

But on May 5, she'll become one for real - on the cover of a comic book!

The funny thing is that the colorful premiere issue of the new Fame series features the singer looking less ridiculous than in many actual Lady Gaga pictures.

But she definitely looks ... super:

Lady Gaga: A superhero of music, fashion and now comic books!

Lady G is certainly known for being animated as a performer - her concerts are can't miss events - but never in this fashion. We think it suits her rather well, though!

Bluewater Productions, the publisher of the Female Force series, has featured Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling, Eclipse author Stephenie Meyer and Michelle Obama.

Now Lady Gaga leads a new group of "culturally relevant" celebrity comics. Future installments include Robert Pattinson, Taylor Swift, David Beckham and 50 Cent.

Bankruptcy. Heartbreak. Rumors that she is a hermaphrodite. Flowers hurtling through the air and striking her in the head. Nothing can faze Lady Gaga!

During her performance of "Poker Face" in Atlanta, Ga., Tuesday, the singer was hit upside the head with a bouquet of flowers from an overexcited fan.

She barely even reacted. These things happen when you're Lady Gaga.

Check out the amusing video below (the floral assault happens around the one-minute mark) and see the powerhouse performer just shrug it off ...

Most of us get into the Christmas spirit with egg nog, festive decorations around our homes, red and green sweaters and maybe the occasional Santa hat.

Lady Gaga, on the other hand ...

There's little else we really have to add to this photo. It's probably no surprise to her fans, who are well accustomed to the unique star's "fashion" sense.

After all, this is an artist who can and will pull off just about anything. Even those Lady Gaga hermaphrodite rumors seemed to increase her popularity.

So rather than paying tribute to the holiday season with Santa-themed attire, she opted for a reindeer look. We have to say, we kinda dig the antlers ...

As 2010 draws near, The Hollywood Gossip staff looks back on the year that was, honoring finalists for our prestigious, 3rd Annual Celebrity of the Year award.

These stars have given us their best, their worst, their off-the-wall antics and in the case of these two, an immediate, but lasting impact on the music world.

It's time for THG to pay tribute to this greatness.

Yesterday, the '09 countdown featured lots of Tiger Woods mistresses at #6. Today, we present Celebrity of the Year Finalist #5: Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga!

Lady Gaga Nude

The year in music belonged to these two rising stars.

He started the year as an unknown; made headlines in February for his flamboyant acts; finished second on American Idol; and has to already be considered one of the most successful singers in the show's history.

Adam Lambert hasn't merely made a name for himself in 2009, he's created a cult following in fewer than 12 months.

Hated by some and embraced by others, the crooner managed to handle his sexuality with both subtle grace AND over-the-top exploits. Adam has more in common with Lady GaGa than unique fashion taste and controversial performances.

Both are well-spoken in interviews and deadly serious about their craft.

Lambert made out with a man at the American Music Awards, but 2009 will be best remembered as the year he made off with the title of Most Fascinating Singer Alive.

As for his female counterpart, Lady Gaga produced a half-dozen hits this year, proving herself so much more than a gimmick or flamboyant flash in the musical pan.

Not that there was a shortage of flamboyance.

She dressed as scrap metal, a gimp, a button, a chain-smoking rabbit, and a Kermit the frog doll collage. She simulated her own bloody murder on stage. She was even rumored to be a hermaphrodite after one revealing display.

We love her for every moment of it. That's just Lady Gaga for you.

It's only fitting that these dynamic performers share the #5 spot on our end-of-year countdown. Click to enlarge pics of Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga below ...
