Lady Gaga to Kids: Stop Bullying and Be Nice!

Lady Gaga wants kids to rethink their entire social structure.

A bold, broad and ambitious task, but would you expect anything less from the Mother Monster? With her new Born This Way Foundation, that's exactly what she's striving for.

She has some specific ideas for how it might work, too ...

Gaga in Black

Asked by Time how an 11-year-old girl might follow Gaga's advice and become more empowered, rather than succumb to other patterns, the singer-songwriter says:

"She could go up to a person in class who maybe is not one of the cool kids and say, 'I really like your T-shirt.' Her one great loving, accepting deed for the day."

That would be a brave step, which is what the initiative is about - combatting meanness and cruelty, inspiring bravery and working toward an accepting society.

"I'm doing everything I can, working with experts, studying statistics, trying to figure out a way we can make it cool or normal to be kind and loving," says Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga Steps Out ... With Mom!

Are you two related by any chance?

One look at Lady Gaga's mom, Cynthia Germanotta, and it's clear where the pop superstar got her looks. Both Gagas attended the launch of their Born This Way Foundation, an anti-bullying and teen advocacy group, at Harvard University.

Here's a comparison of Cynthia Germanotta, 57, and Stefani Germanotta, 25, using one of the rare Lady Gaga pictures in which she appears au naturale:

Lady Gaga has talked publicly about how close she is to her family, and credits her mother with inspiring her passion for style ... even if hers is a little bit tamer.

"I was very much like my mother [growing up]," the "Bad Romance" chanteuse told Vanity Fair. "She would do her hair every morning and dress so nicely."

"I just liked to be glamorous. It made me feel like a star."

For her part, it seems Germanotta is equally as admiring.

"She's a great businesswoman," Germanotta told The Daily Beast about starting the Born This Way foundation with her daughter. "I'm learning from her now."

Grammy Awards Fashion Face-Off: Lady Gaga vs. Nicki Minaj

Adele outshone Lady Gaga musically by winning six Grammys Sunday night. Nicki Minaj may have upstaged her in the outrageous fashion and performance department.

After all, it was Nicki Minaj's Grammy performance, not Gaga's, that featured a confession to a priest and an exorcism (not to mention a fake red carpet Pope sighting).

Mya Fashion Choice

Clearly there's room for both of these outsized personalities.

Gaga was on hand - wearing fishnets on her face in fact - but a devilish Nicki likely stole the show from her in the fashion department. If you can even call either "fashion."

Vote for your favorite "style" star in the Face-Off below:

Madonna Sort of Calls Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" a Rip-Off

Are tensions rising between Madonna and Lady Gaga?

In an interview with Newsweek (via the Daily Beast), Madonna commented that Lady Gaga's 2011 single "Born This Way" was a "redo" of her "Express Yourself."

"I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song [1989's "Express Yourself"]," she says. "I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting."

High praise ... not. Here's a side-by-side comparison:

Madonna herself is hardly the only one who's noticed the similarity. NME asked Gaga last year if the song was knockoff of Madonna's hit. She wasn't happy.

"I'm a songwriter. I've written loads of music," the 25-year-old fumed. "Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody?"

"What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression."

"Just because I'm the first f***ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist, it means that I'm f***ing smart. Sorry."

Strikes a nerve, clearly. That said, both Gaga and Madonna have claimed to be fans of each other's work in the past, and there's no real sign of bad blood.

Did Gaga rip off Madonna?

Totally a rip off!
Similar, but that's okay.
I don't hear the resemblance ...

Who Did Lady Gaga Kiss on New Year's Eve?

Someone locked lips with Lady Gaga on New Year's Eve.

If you guessed that person was her boyfriend Taylor Kinney, you would be ... incorrect! But you're still up on your Gaga gossip and we commend you for that.

No, this would've been a bit harder to see coming. After Lady Gaga's New Year's Eve performance rocked Times Square, she puckered up at midnight with ...

The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg! Look:

Lady Gaga, Michael Bloomberg Kiss

If ever there were a picture worth a thousand words ...

Embracing as the ball dropped, the Grammy winner wore a sequined mask and hizzoner donned a sweater embroidered with the American flag. U-S-A! U-S-A!

Bloomberg officially chose Gaga as his "ball drop partner" a few days prior to the event. For the star, the whole experience of NYC on NYE was very emotional.

"I can't even quite describe what tonight felt like," Gaga, who grew up on the city's Upper West Side, Tweeted. "Sort of poetic madness. A dream come true."

We're guessing she meant the night overall, not just kissing Bloomy. Although you never know, the charming 69-year-old does look handsome in that sweater.

Lady Gaga New Year's Eve Performance: Watch Now!

For native New Yorker Lady Gaga, it was a dream come true.

The singer performed live in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, treating Little Monsters to a medley of “Heavy Metal Lover,” “Marry the Night” and “Born This Way.”

She began the routine in a costume that looked like a cross between Jabba the Hutt, a giant squid and a sequined Pac-Man. Your guess is as good as ours really.

Soon enough, she changed to a (relatively, for Gaga) normal black body suit, Catwoman mask and globe-structure thing. Watch her NYE performance below:

Gaga later helped NYC Mayor Bloomberg push the button to drop the Times Square ball after changing into a sparkly Versace number. What a way to start 2012!

Always emotional but rarely like this, she got a little choked up talking to Ryan Seacrest about the whole thing. Check out her brief interview after the jump:

Taylor Kinney and Lady Gaga Step Out, Go Public

Lady Gaga's officially going public with boyfriend Taylor Kinney.

With a series of just-released photos in which she makes no attempt to hide her affection, the 25-year-old is finally acknowledging what we've known for months: She and The Vampire Diaries' Taylor Kinney are an item, and a cute one at that.

Sources say they're taking it slow, but definitely going strong.

Gaga, who first met Kinney on the set of her "You and I" music video (below) when he starred as her love interest and makeout partner, casually slung her arm over her boyfriend's shoulder as they strolled along a California beach.

While the pair appear cozy and are getting along fabulously, a source close to Gaga insists they're not super serious - mostly because of the strains of her career.

"They're hooking up and getting to know each other," explains the insider. "Gaga can't be too committed because she works 24/7. But she thinks he's the best!"

Good to hear. Let's just hope they make time for each other!

Who Was the Most Charitable Celebrity of 2011?

Through numerous drunk driving arrests, sex tapes, bar fights and, well, the existence of Courtney Stodden, it's easy to forget that celebrities actually do a lot of good.

And the organization DoSomething.org wants to remind people of that: it has released a list of the top 20 most charitable stars in 2011, with Lady Gaga leading the way. This singer is almost as well known for her causes - from her support of gay rights to her fight against AIDS and poverty - as she is for her string of number-one hits.

The eccentric singer even visited the White House this month and has created her own charity the Born this Way Foundation.

Gotta Love GagaJustin Bieber in a Tux
