Kobe Bryant was fined a whopping $100,000 for calling NBA ref Bennie Adams a f*****g f****t the other night, a penalty he plans to appeal.

While trying to get the fine reduced is standard protocol, the L.A. Lakers star says the utterance was NOT standard for him, nor should it be.

The NBA great called the president of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization, and apologized for using the gay slur last night.

Joe Solmonese said this after speaking with Bryant:

"I applaud Kobe for his swift apology. We had a very sincere conversation in which he expressed his heartfelt regret for the hurt his words caused."

"He told me that it’s never OK to degrade or tease, and he understands how his words could give the impression that this is appropriate. At the end of a difficult day, I applaud Kobe for coming forward and taking responsibility for his actions."

Kobe also told ESPN that his concern is that for those who look up to him "not to take what was said as a message of hate or a license to degrade, or to embarrass or tease, because that's something I don't wanna see have happen."

L.A. Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant appeared to use a homophobic slur while cursing out an NBA ref last night, and a gay rights group is justifiably livid.

In the third quarter of L.A.'s matchup with the Spurs, Kobe got a technical foul. Clearly upset, he appeared to call Bennie Adams a "F**king f**got."

The Lakers say they can't confirm what was said, but it looks obvious. An announcer even said, "You might wanna take the cameras off of him" ...

In the wake of this incident, the Human Rights Campaign called it "a disgrace for Kobe Bryant to use such horribly offensive and distasteful language."

Even worse, the group said in condemning Kobe - "a person with such fame and influence" - was that he did this with millions of people watching:

"Such language not only offends millions of LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] people around the world, but also perpetuates a culture of discrimination and hate that all of us, most notably Mr. Bryant, should be working to eradicate."

Kobe Bryant scored 37 points and earned his record-tying fourth MVP award at last night's NBA All-Star Game.

LeBron James, meanwhile, almost led the Eastern Conference to an unexpected comeback in the fourth quarter and recorded the second triple double in the history of this storied exhibition game.

But the real battle between the two best players in the league took place prior to the game, as Kobe and LeBron both walked the T-Mobile sponsored red carpet in Los Angeles. Which baller slam-dunked his opponent in a match-up of fashion choices? You tell us.

For the first time in years, Woods no longer holds the title of America's most popular sports star. Not by himself, anyway. NBA star Kobe Bryant is now tied.

Rising from fourth place last year, Kobe rose into a statistical dead heat with Tiger in a Harris Interactive poll, which Woods has won every year since 2006.

Woods' affair with Rachel Uchitel and countless others became huge news last year, and he has yet to regain the form that made him the world's #1 golfer.

He hasn't shown much respect for the game, either.

A sex scandal can't slow down this star ... or this other star!

The survey among 2,227 adults was conducted online from June 14-21. Even before the debacle that was "The Decision," LeBron James had from third to sixth.

Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh, Yankees star Derek Jeter leaped from fourth to third, with the annoying, possibly retired Brett Favre in fourth.

Peyton Manning rounded out the top five. Who's your favorite overall - and which of the two stars at the top do you like better? Vote in the poll below ...

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and his wife have filed legal papers in response to the lawsuit that former housekeeper Maria Jiminez filed against them.

Jimenez claims that Kobe's wife, Vanessa Bryant, was abusive and disrespectful to her, screaming, swearing and even forcing her to put her hand in a bag full of dog feces to retrieve a tag from her blouse that she accidentally chucked.

Kobe Bryant, Wife

In Kobe's court documents, he and Vanessa say they paid the maid $50,000 a year, gave her time off, lavished her with gifts, and were totally really nice.

Kobe and his wife say the maid ate meals with them and when she asked for time off to visit her family in Peru, Vanessa gave her paid leave of absence.

TROPHY COLLECTION: Kobe Bryant displays his prize possessions, the NBA's Larry O'Brien championship trophy he helped L.A. win in June, and his wife's cleavage.

The Bryants' response to the lawsuit says Maria Jiminez is making stuff up, that she was fired for a reason, and the claim that her privacy was violated because of home security cameras is dog $h!t since she knew cameras were rolling.

In 2004, soon after Kobe Bryant was accused of sexual assault and admitted to cheating on his wife, he bought Vanessa Bryant an eight-carat diamond ring.

Based on photos of the couple at this year's ESPY Awards, it's clear why: he needed something large enough to match her breasts! (And he had to apologize for the whole infidelity, accusatory rape thing.)

Indeed, Kobe has been nominated for Best Male Athlete and Best Championship Performance at this year's ESPN-sponsored ceremony, but his wife has already sewn up the award for Most Ridiculous, Gigantic Cleavage.

As you can see below, her nipples have also won Most Unwelcome Red Carpet Guests. Put those things away, Vanessa!

Based on his attitude and general awfulness as a human being, we think Kobe Bryant is a piece of $hit.

In related news, Vanessa was accused of forcing her former maid to wipe her hand with dog feces earlier this year.

With last night's overtime victory over the Orlando Magic, Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers are just two wins away from an NBA championship.

Meanwhile, the NBA star's attorneys are gunning for a victory of their own - one that would prevent his former maid from blabbing to the media.

Kobe, Vanessa

Kobe and his wife, Vanessa Bryant, are in a dog fight with Maria Jimenez - who filed papers Friday citing California's anti-SLAPP statute and essentially asking a court for permission to trash the Bryants, publicly, to anybody who will listen.

That's normally a rite of passage when it comes to suing celebrities, except for the fact that she signed a confidentiality agreement when she was hired.

Vanessa Bryant: So in love with Kobe. So allegedly crazy.

Maria Jimenez is suing the Bryants, claiming Kobe's wife Vanessa defamed, harassed, and even physically abused her during her tenure as their housekeeper.

The accusation that stinks most (har har) for the Bryants is that Vanessa made Maria dig deep into dog $h!t to retrieve the price tag for a blouse at one point.

Kobe's attorney says Jimenez is dreaming if she thinks the confidentiality agreement isn't binding. Doug Mirell says that pact is solid as a rock, so stay tuned.

Kobe Bryant's ex-maid, Maria Jimenez, wants to make one thing clear: It's her lawsuit and she can talk about the details if she damn well wants to.

Jimenez filed papers in Orange County Superior Court, citing California's anti-SLAPP statute which says she has the right to talk about the case in public.

Kobe Bryant, Family

This despite a confidentiality agreement she signed with the Los Angeles Lakers guard and his wife, Vanessa, back when she first took the housekeeping job.

The Bryants filed papers last month saying the opposite - that Maria could sue them, but couldn't speak to the press about it. Good luck enforcing that one.

Maria Jiminez is suing the NBA star and his wife, claiming Vanessa "badgered, harassed and humiliated" her, repeatedly "yelling, screaming and criticizing her in front of Kobe, their children, employees and other people in the house."

The final straw came when Maria put an expensive blouse of Vanessa's in the washer, apparently by mistake. Vanessa supposedly demanded that Maria put her hand in dog feces to retrieve the price tag for the blouse. Classy.

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are scheduled to absolutely demolish Orlando in Game Two of the NBA Finals Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Maria Jimenez claims in a lawsuit filed today that Vanessa Bryant, wife of basketball star Kobe Bryant, has been rather mean to her recently.

Specifically, the angry maid says the wife of the NBA's reigning MVP called her "lazy, slow dumb, a f---ing liar, and a f---ing piece of sh-t."

Kobe and his wife are being sued by their former housekeeper, who claims Vanessa Bryant was repeatedly and incredibly abusive of her.

In the lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Orange County, Maria Jimenez claims Vanessa actually accused her of stealing her (mouth) retainer.

Jimenez says Vanessa "badgered, harassed and humiliated" her "by yelling, screaming and criticizing her in front of Kobe, their children, employees and other people in the house," and she threatened to quit but Kobe talked her out of it.

This time it's Vanessa Bryant, not Kobe, who's in legal hot water.

The final straw supposedly came when Vanessa went nuclear because Maria Jiminez put an expensive blouse in the washer. Vanessa naturally demanded that Maria put her hand in a bag of dog feces to retrieve the price tag for the blouse.

Maria says she wanted to quit and Vanessa responded that she "had to work until payday to pay for the $690 blouse, which she did." Man, that's just harsh, V.

She is suing for invasion of privacy, emotional distress, unpaid wages and wrongful discharge, which is sorta like what Kobe Bryant was charged with back in '03.

Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal took a shot at his former teammate, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, as he rapped Sunday night.

Yes, you read that correctly.

During the free-style rapping, he accused Bryant of ruining his marriage (!?) before launching into how Kobe Bryant lost the NBA playoffs, etc.

Yes, there was Shaquille O'Neal, blaming his former teammate for ruining his marriage and imploring him to "Tell me how my ass tastes."

After spending several verses shredding Kobe's game, Shaq drops the line, "I'm a horse, Kobe ratted me out, that's why I'm getting divorced."

There is no love lost between Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal.

The line may be referencing a comment Kobe Bryant made during his infamous 2003 rape case, when he told Colorado cops that he "Should have done what Shaq does ... Shaq would pay his women not to say anything."

Interestingly, Kobe does not seem to have learned this lesson five years later, with the Vanessa Curry scandal hanging over his head. Jackass.

Anyway. The two became famously bitter rivals after the incident, and Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat in 2004. Kobe? No titles since.
