This has been the worst PR week in the history of the National Football League.

Star Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has basically admitted to child abuse. Ray Rice knocked out then-fianee Janay Palmer with a punch, shedding light on other domestic violence cases in the NFL and the league's lax policy when it comes to alleged offenders.

It's been a nightmare for (awful) Commissioner Roger Goodell, but it's also just been a couple new examples of a sad trend: athletes in trouble with the law, with their wives or just with the public in general.

From performance-enhancing drug use... to the banging of so many cocktail waitresses... to one of the most heinous acts and most despicable individuals imaginable, we rundown 14 scandals below that made us ashamed to cheer on our favorite teams or athletes:

LIAR!
Lance Armstrong denied it and denied it, but he eventually came clean: yes, he cheated to win every Tour de France.

Beyonce famously sang that girls run the world and based on the results of Forbes annual list of the most powerful celebrities, it seems she was on to something.

Thanks in part to her On the Run tour with Jay Z, Queen Bey pulled in an estimated $115 million in the past year, nearly doubling the earnings of her rapper husband.

Beyonce
Mrs. Carter tops the list. She pulled in an impressive $115 million in the past year.

Between rumors of marital troubles and the now-infamous Jay-Solance fight video, 2014 has seen Bey struggling with some problems in her personal life, but she clearly hasn't allowed the drama to affect her career.

Other celebs may earn more than Beyonce (Thanks to his deal with Beats Audio, Dr. Dre raked in an astonishing $620 million in 2013.), but according to Forbes  no one can match Mrs. Carter when it comes to sheer power.

A couple A-listers demonstrated the art of the apology this week.

First, Justin Bieber was caught on tape telling a racist joke (when he was 15 years old) - but the singer quickly released a lengthy, heartfelt apology, dismissing his latest scandal far more easily than other recent slip-ups.

Jonah Hill then used an anti-gay insult to slam a cameraman, yet he also jumped on the issue and admitted his word choice was disgusting.

How do these mea culpas compare to past instances of regret exhibited by actors, artists and athletes?

Click through some of the more memorable ones from recent history now:

Once a cheater, always a cheater?

If that's the case, you might wanna stay away from the following celebrities... no matter how attractive they are, no matter how well they dunk a basketball or how impressive they are in front of a camera.

Indeed, infidelity is not reserved for athletes or singers; male or females.

Stars from all industries have strayed from their significant others - and while some have rebounded with hot new mates (darn you, Mila Kunis and Lindsey Vonn!), all hopefully regret the actions that landed them there.

Below, we present a rundown of 17 Celebrities Who Are Known Cheaters. Take note, future boyfriends, girlfriends and spouses:

Really, everyone else on this list is just playing for second place.

Here is a sentence we did not expect to write today:

Meryl Streep hung at at yesterday's Knicks-Lakers game with 50 Cent. No... really!

The 18-time Academy Award nominee sat courtside for the matchup alongside the famous rapper, getting along so well with Fiddy that the pair eventually made it backstage.

Where Kobe Bryant joined the party!

What did the trio talk about? Probably Carmelo Anthony dropped 62 points Friday night... Justin Bieber getting arrested... who Juan Pablo Galavis will select to be his wife.

Check out a handful of photos of the unexpected threesome now:

Count Kobe Bryant as someone who is looking forward to a fresh start in the new year.

The Lakers superstar, who has only played in six games this season after tearing his Achilles in April, suffered a fractured lateral tibial plateau Tuesday night and will miss at least six weeks of action.

Following a disastrous season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard is now a member of the Houston Rockets.

He signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the team this week.

And while many in the media have been waiting for Kobe Bryant to entertain us with some kind of explosion at his former teammate, the future Hall of Famer has been far more subtle in his reaction.

Earlier this week, Jason Collins came out as gay, making him the first openly homosexual active player in a major American sport.

And the outpour of support just keeps on coming!

Now, he's told E! that "The biggest key is for everybody to be comfortable being themselves."

The Laker added "As his peers we have to support him, just rally around him."

Millions of fans tuned in to the Los Angeles Lakers' 91-79 defeat yesterday in the opening game of their Western Conference Playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs.

But one fan in particular stood out for his Tweeted opinions on the team's offense flow... or lackthereof.

Kobe Shoots

Kobe Bryant, out for the year with a torn Achilles, sent multiple cyber messages throughout the contest, making it clear he believed Pau Gasol should "post, post, post," while also lamenting the team's "matador defense" against Tony Parker.

For weeks, Kobe Bryant has been carrying the Los Angeles Lakers and their playoff chances on his back.

But it was a different body part that felled the NBA superstar last night, as Bryant tore his Achilles tendon, ending his season and possibly beyond.

Even the biggest Laker hater has to be shaking his or her head at the news. Who wants to see one of sports' living legends go out in such a way?

But is Kobe done for good? The injury - and perhaps some pain medication - prompted Bryant to go on an EPIC Facebook rant this morning at 3:30.

It includes words of doubt, inspiration... and a warning to any bear looking for a fight. And it's worth just reading in its entirety below:
