Hear Katy Perry "Roar," indeed. The pop superstar's latest hit single has officially wrested the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from Robin Thicke.

Thicke's "Blurred Lines" had a 12-week run at the top - one of only 14 tracks ever to keep the #1 spot that long - but as the summer ends, so did its reign.

Katy Perry‘s “Roar” has doned “Blurred Lines” in, with the first release from her upcoming album Prism marking her eighth #1 on the Hot 100 career.

Her last #1 was 2012′s “Part Of Me.” Katy's most recent single, “Wide Awake,” peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 last year ... a relative disappointment for her.

“Roar” has so such problems, selling 448,000 digital downloads last week alone and gaining strength ever since release. It's a champion, you could say.

As an artist, she certainly doesn't lack for effort, theatrics and production value. Watch the just-released Katy Perry "Roar" music video above!

Which we do. And we are not afraid to admit this.

She showed off some serious thigh. She debuted a grill. She stole the show performing under the Brooklyn Bridge in a sports bra and boxing shorts.

Katy Perry, everyone!

The star closed out the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with a rendition of her new hit single, "Roar," her first performance of the show anywhere:

The girl power anthem, which has drawn comparisons to Sara Bareilles' "Brave", has been a huge seller out of the gate, and earned raves on Twitter Sunday.

Did Katy Perry's VMA performance deserve them? Watch above and tell us:

We've heard her roar, but do you think her new song is a champion?

Katy Perry's "Roar" has won the battle of the new hit pop singles, at least in their opening week, outpacing Lady Gaga's latest release, "Applause."

Perry is a champion, as proclaimed, and her fans' collective "Roar" has propelled her to more than 525,000 downloads of her latest mega-single.

Somewhere, Perez Hilton is celebrating so hard.

That's compared to an estimated 200,000 to 225,000 sales expected for Lady Gaga, Billboard reports. So is "Applause" more like a slow clap?

The release of today's Lady Gaga "Applause" music video might help her cause ("Roar" doesn't have one yet), but for now, Katy is winning big time.

Maybe Little Monsters didn't satisfy (people, or expectations).

How similar is Katy Perry’s new hit “Roar” to Sara Bareilles’ recent single “Brave"?

Similar enough to have some fans crying ripoff after she roared to #1 this week.

More than a few of the 3,500,000 Katy Perry "Roar" listeners on YouTube have noted its similarities to Bareilles' song in key, tempo and loping beat.

Listen to them both above and see what you think ...

If there were any doubts that Katy Perry and John Mayer are reunited and making sweet music together - literally and otherwise - consider them gone.

Their romance is immortalized in a duet they co-wrote, "Who You Love," on the singer-songwriter's new album, Paradise Valley (due out August 20).

It's incredibly cheesy, but in a cute way. Listen:

"Who You Love" offers lyrical insight into their attraction to each other and hints that they split in March because he wasn't ready to be in a relationship.

The mid-tempo track features Mayer, 35, singing:

Katy Perry's new single "Roar" has been released, and comes with a lyric video that iPhone-obsessed, emoticon lovers everywhere will appreciate.

Below, the cutesy graphic symbols - staples of the Emoji keyboard - help spell out the cheesy, uplifting lyrics on the screen of the singer's iPhone.

Check out the Katy Perry "Roar" lyrics velow:

"I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar," she proclaims, and some of her friends help get that message across ... via text message, obvi.

"Shanny" (Shannon Woodward), Ferras, "Johnny Wu" stylist Johnny Wujak), "Mamma Mia" (MIA Moretti) and "SKEET" (Young Skeeter), to name a few.

Katy, for her part, reads their pearls of wisdom while eating breakfast, sitting on the toilet, riding in the passenger's seat and taking a bubble bath.

Standard iPhone/Katy fare, we'd say.

What do you think of "Roar"?

Katy Perry's new album Prism is coming out October 22, 2013.

That's the impression we get from this photo, at least ...

Katy Perry Prism

The singer reportedly arranged for an 18-wheeler to drive the streets of L.A. Monday, emblazoned with the large words "Katy Perry, Prism, 10.22.13."

A Tweet, press release or racy picture (a la Lady Gaga nude every other day) have involved fewer carbon emissions, but major points for creativity.
