Olivia Wise, a 16 year old teen whose cover of Katy Perry's "Roar" went viral overnight, lost her battle with a terminal brain tumor on November 25.

She died peacefully in her home. Her cousin Jeff Kassel says "she was surrounded by love."

News of Wise's death reached Katy Perry and the songstress sent her condolences in the following tweet:

Kassel, who arranged the recording session as a gift to his cousin, helped the teen leave behind a legacy.

Her recording of "Roar" is being sold on iTunes with proceeds going to the Liv Wise Fund which helps kids with cancer and supports cancer research. The fund's original goal was $150,000 and now that they have surpassed that amount, they've raised their target amount to $250,000.

There are still 28 days left in December, but that doesn't mean we can't go ahead and begin looking at the year in review, starting with this video of the 20 most overplayed songs of 2013 performed in a one minute mashup.

From "Get Lucky" to "Royals" to "Roar," Chad Neidt covers this year's top songs in this guitar medley. Also included are "What Does The Fox Say," Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball," and Robin Thicke's summer anthem "Blurred Lines."

Katy Perry's performance of "Unconditionally" at the American Music Awards had some people scratching their heads and others labeling it offensive.

The star opened the show dressed as a geisha, complete with an elaborate Japanese-style set, which not every viewer loved "Unconditionally."

She said beforehand that she wanted to up her game, with the chance to open, and did she ever. Some felt it racist, though, Tweeting remarks like:

  • I guess Katy Perry really didn't want to be left out of the mind-numbingly ignorant and racist pop-star hall of shame.
  • @katyperry returns to her roots as trite and ignorant in her performance as a "geisha." Brings me back to the days of 'Ur So Gay.' #AMAs

Other fans defended Katy Perry, however, with reactions such as:

  • These claims of Katy Perry's AMA performance being racist are absolutely ridiculous. Appreciation and appropriation of other cultures is ok.
  • It honestly bothers me that people believe @katyperry performance was a racist act. She loves the Japanese culture and japan loves her.

VOTE: Was Katy Perry's AMA performance offensive?

Katy Perry has released her music video for "Unconditionally," and while her smash hit single "Roar" was jungle-themed ... this one features an owl subplot.

She dropped the video last night with this Tweet: "Yes, unconditional love sometimes feels like being hit by a car... Or being on fire... How does it feel to you?"

Both of the aforementioned incidents happen to Perry in the video, which is a real hoot, if you follow. We're going for an owl-themed play on words.

Watch the "Unconditionally" music video below and see for yourself:

Katy Perry previous said that she wanted this video to focus on both "beauty and glamor," and be unlike "Roar" or anything she's produced in the past.

Mission accomplished. Touching on all the different elements, fans will see the lovely singer in different settings while emotionally singing into the camera.

The high-production music video provides plenty of artistic imagery, while being partially inspired by her romance with John Mayer (no, he doesn't appear).

What do you think of Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" video?

Very well done, Amanda Trusty.

In the following video, this woman tap-dances around to Katy Perry's "Roar," using it as a body images, empowering anthem in a routine that begins basically enough…

... But then becomes more message-filled when Amanda unknots her hair, removes her tutu and sweatshirt and reveals the words "cellulite," "fat" and "suck it in" on various parts of her body.

She then lets loose as she unsticks these terms. Watch now:

Is Katy Perry ready to walk down the aisle again? Probably not just yet, but she ignited engagement rumors at last night's EMAs with a ring on her finger.

That finger.

Katy Perry Ring

Perry walked the red carpet at the 2013 MTV European Music Awards on Sunday in Amsterdam sporting a nice diamond accessory. Thus the chatter.

So far, Katy and John Mayer aren't talking publicly if they are engaged, but there were reports out last week that he was ready to put a ring on it.

As for the rock itself, it's not the biggest rock we've seen, by a lot shot, especially by what you'd expect John Mayer would cough up to wife up KP.

Olivia Wise, a 16-year-old girl who is terminally ill and battling an inoperable brain tumor, sang "Roar" by Katy Perry in a heartbreaking, inspiring viral video.

“Olivia is a fighter and has gone through the fire,” her cousin wrote.

“In fact, she was going through the fire while she was recording this song, but you wouldn’t know it, because she kept on dancing right through it.”

Her health is failing, but Wise is keeping a positive attitude, wishing for a cure and rarely succumbing to negative thoughts. Katy's song certainly helps.

The "Roar" phenomenon has inspired countless parodies across the land, as its message of standing tall against adversity has resonate with millions.

As things tend to do these days, the video eventually made its way to Kerry Perry herself, who sent her own video to Wise and her family. Take a look:

While Justin Bieber was busy being photographed leaving a brothel, Katy Perry was at home not being dumb. This strategy paid off as the "Walking on Air" singer has surpassed The Biebs as the most popular celebrity on Twitter.

Katy Perry boasts a record 46.48 million followers to Justin Bieber's 46.47 million. (How many of those followers are the same would be interesting but we've already used up our quota of math skills for the day.)

Perry's social media strategy? "Don't drink and tweet." And keep your clothes on.

  • Justin Bieber Gets Hot

Bieber ousted Lady Gaga from her two-year reign as the Queen of Twitter 9 months ago. How long Katy Perry will remain on top of Twitter remains to be seen. But one thing's for sure, she's not changing who she is in order to gain more followers.

Why would she when being genuine has been working for her so far?

Katy Perry broke into the music stratosphere with “I Kissed a Girl” in 2007, but for years before that, she toiled and struggled to find fame in Hollywood.

Now 29, the recalls doing backing vocals for some major stars, including Mick Jagger, with whom she had a very interesting encounter a decade ago.

Katy Perry, Jagger

In a recent interview with Australian DJs Ash, Kip & Luttsy, on Nova FM, Perry claimed that Jagger came on to her when she was just 18 years old.

Perry worked with the Rolling Stones rocker on his hit “Old Habits Die Hard,” and she said she even went out to dinner with the now 70-year-old icon.

“I actually went to dinner with [Mick] one time, and he hit on me when I was 18!” she said.

Katy Perry has used sex appeal to her advantage, but it's one of many tools in her arsenal, while other stars seem to be getting naked almost by default.

So she tells NPR, admitting that these days, "I do see myself becoming this, whatever, inspiration out of default right now, 'cause it's such a strange world."

"Like females in pop ... everybody's getting naked. I mean, I've been naked before but I don't feel like I have to get naked to be noticed. It's interesting to see."

That it is. Asked if she was calling out any singer in particular - Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Rihanna come to mind - she insists she's not.

"I'm talking about all of them. I mean, it's like everybody's so naked," she said.
