Proving that she's a marketing genius as well as a pop superstar (although the two are intertwined these days), Katy Perry has started a cool contest:

She's asking for fan submissions of school spirit videos lip-dubbing her hit single "Roar" and will visit the winning high school campus to perform live.

The girl power anthem has become a smash hit since its release this summer, and should have no problem sustaining with the advent of this contest.

Katy Perry will visit the school and perform live on her 29th birthday, October 25, after the winner is chosen from the hundreds of submissions she's received.

Check out just one of many "Roar" lip-dub parodies after the jump:

Katy Perry’s new album Prism is looking like a smorgasbord of genres.

From over-the-top pop anthems (“Roar”) to quasi-rap (“Dark Horse” with Juicy J) and now the club banger “Walking On Air,” this thing's got it all!

"Walking on Air" was produced by Klas Ahlund, a Swedish songwriter-producer who has teamed with Ke$ha, Vanessa Hudgens, Robyn and Madonna.

The latest release, which hit the web yesterday, finds Katy Perry adopting the persona of the great British club divas of a bygone era. Can she pull it off?

Give “Walking On Air” a listen and tell us what you think:

Katy Perry loves John Mayer. He's a smart guy, according to the pop star.

"He literally is a genius, as is evident from his songwriting," Perry tells Billboard magazine, in which she also promotes her highly anticipated album PRISM.

"I always tell him, 'Darling, you know I'm going to have to give your mind to science after you've passed, because we're going to have to understand how all these sparks work.'"

You may vomit on cue. But keep the bag handy, because it continues:

"We'll be in bed, and he'll be doing the crossword puzzle. Every night, he tries to finish in under 10 minutes," she says. "When he puts his mind to something, he really gets it done very well."

Katy Perry’s new single, “Roar,” is a smash big hit with her fans.

Not so much with PETA, due to its jungle-themed music video.

The animal rights group is slamming the use of the creatures in Perry’s video, which features the singer cavorting with monkeys, elephants and tigers.

“Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods,” a PETA spokesman said.

The group added of the animals, “They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations.”

Courtney Love is on Team Miley.

With the 20-year old artist under heavy flak for an arguably racist VMA routine - followed by a raunchy, naked "Wrecking Ball" video - the former Hole singer told The New York Post last night that critics have been too hard on Cyrus.

  • Courtney Love on the Street
  • Miley Cyrus: Smiling in London
  • Katy Perry Grillin

"That hillbilly Miley Cyrus is sort of punk in a weird sex way," Love told the crowd at the Dream Downtown during a set to celebrate Scott Lipps’ book “PopLipps," adding of Miley's infamous Video Music Awards performance:

"It was openly sexual...  like dark and hillbilly and [bleeped] up."

Hear Katy Perry "Roar," indeed. The pop superstar's latest hit single has officially wrested the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from Robin Thicke.

Thicke's "Blurred Lines" had a 12-week run at the top - one of only 14 tracks ever to keep the #1 spot that long - but as the summer ends, so did its reign.

Katy Perry‘s “Roar” has doned “Blurred Lines” in, with the first release from her upcoming album Prism marking her eighth #1 on the Hot 100 career.

Her last #1 was 2012′s “Part Of Me.” Katy's most recent single, “Wide Awake,” peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 last year ... a relative disappointment for her.

“Roar” has so such problems, selling 448,000 digital downloads last week alone and gaining strength ever since release. It's a champion, you could say.

As an artist, she certainly doesn't lack for effort, theatrics and production value. Watch the just-released Katy Perry "Roar" music video above!

"Roar" is undoubtedly the "champion" video she promised. Watch:

Between the beautiful jungle scenery, the cute animals, and Katy Perry's beautiful and cute jungle attire, well, there's not a lot to dislike if you heart Katy Perry.

Which we do. And we are not afraid to admit this.

Katy Perry and Barack Obama are bonding on Twitter. How sweet.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards proved to be a great night for Perry, who closed out the show with a knockout performance of her new hit "Roar."

That was before getting a Twitter shout-out from the President!

It began when Perry, an Obama supporter, re-tweeted his message to get affordable healthcare starting October 1, and he was very appreciative.

"Thanks for spreading the word. #ROAR," Obama responded.

Katy said, "Happy to do my part, PREZ!" Later, she added:
