Katie Couric may have left The Today Show in 2006, but she still has some strong opinions regarding the current state of the program. Specifically, its handling of Ann Curry.

And they aren't very positive.

"I felt really bad for Ann. I still don't understand why they didn't give her sort of a proper send-off," Couric told Philly.com this week as part of her promotion for Katie, which premieres on September 10, adding:

"Ann did some extraordinary work during her time there. It was just not the best chapter in The Today Show. It made me sad for the institution."

That's for sure.

Ratings for the program haven't picked up and there's reportedly even chatter that many employees want Matt Lauer gone next. The juggernaut has fallen has very hard times.

Couric, though, kicks off her talk show next month and has booked Jessica Simpson and Sheryl Crow as her opening day guests. She says she's inspired by Oprah, but...

"When people say, 'Are you the new Oprah?' I say, 'No, I'm the old Katie.'"

They are reportedly "very happy together" and actually appeared together in public over the weekend at a breast cancer benefit.

“Katie looked better than ever and, clearly in love, did her best to keep her relationship with John low-key," said a witness. "She was careful not to be photographed with him, but they were clearly together. They looked good together and other guests remarked that he seemed a more age-appropriate match.”

Couric has two daughters with late husband Jay Monahan, who died of colon cancer in 1998. She split with Brooks Perlin, who is 17 years her junior, for in December, following nearly five years together.

Couric's talk show, Katie, premieres on September 10.

These are just some of the things we learn about Katie Couric in the first official preview for Katie, her aptly-titled upcoming talk show, which premieres on September 10 across the country on most ABC affiliates.

In a rare interview, Prince William gave ABC News the clearest sign yet that he and his wife Kate Middleton are planning to try for a baby soon.

In an interview to mark his grandmother’s diamond jubilee - 60 years on the throne - the future king said starting a family is a top priority.

Discussing his military plans, Prince William, who will himself turn 30 next month (Kate Middleton turned 30 this winter), told Katie Couric:

"More importantly, I’d rather like to have children. That’s the key thing really."

"But I’m just very keen to have a family and both Catherine and I, you know, are very much looking forward to having a family in the future."

When asked whether there was anything he would like to announce, the prince said coyly: "You won’t get anything out of me. Tight lipped."

Fortunately, Couric didn't overtly ask about the recent pregnancy rumors.

William and brother his Prince Harry opened up during an interview at Clarence House in London for The Jubilee Queen, ABC's special series on her.

The couple - who met at a 2006 fundraiser for cancer research - were "at different stages in their careers," according to a friend of the ABC correspondent, adding: "The split was inevitable."

Couric's husband, Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998. He was 42.

Couric will debut her new talk show on ABC in May, while she hosts a two-hour year-end special on December 15, looking back at various newsmakers from 2011. Looks like she can now include herself in that group.
