Katherine Heigl is not only open to a return to Grey's Anatomy, she admits she's proactively asked if she can reprise her long-gone character, Dr. Izzie Stevens.

Surprising, after leaving the series on a bitter note two years ago after more than one public spat with its producers and ABC. But now she'd welcome a return.

Seriously. The One For the Money star said in a recent interview:

Katie Heigl Pic

"I've told them I want to I don't know... Being a showrunner and being a writer of a TV series like that is so complicated ... how many characters are there now?"

"She's balancing about 40 different storylines, so I don't know if it fits in to their sort of vision for this season or next or however many seasons it goes."

"I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now," she adds.

"My idea is that she actually like figures it out, and finds some success at a different hospital. She was always floundering, always one step behind the eight ball."

"I want to see that girl take some power back."

Katherine Heigl is leaving Grey’s Anatomy. That you already know, or at least probably suspected. But now the star has officially confirmed the news herself.

I am done,” she said. “We finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working hard to find an amicable way of moving on. It’s sad but it’s what I wanted.”

The actress says that it was family issues, not her burgeoning film career, that prompted her to approach series creator Shonda Rhimes and ask to be let go.

Not sure if we buy that, as she's been angling to be let go for several seasons now and just became a mom late last year, but hey, it definitely sounds better.

“I started a family and it changed everything,” says Heigl, of adopted daughter, Naleigh, with husband Josh Kelley. “It changed my desire to work full-time.”

COMING CLEAN: As much as Katherine Heigl can, anyway.

Although she was scheduled to appear in this season’s final five episodes, that is not happening. The January 21 episode was the last we'll see of her on the hit series that basically made her huge, as she's already been on three-month maternity leave.

“I know I’m disappointing the fans,” she says of her contentious, immature departure. “I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one.”

One way to redeem herself to some fans ASAP?

Having become the perpetual subject of rumors for her unhappiness on the set, Katherine Heigl is finally leaving Grey's Anatomy after five seasons and change.

Series creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release the actress from her deal.

The question is why now, after she's been disgruntled with the series for over two years, but after she unexpectedly came back at the start of the current year?

Because after taking more than half the current season off to make another movie and hang with her adopted daughter, Heigl was scheduled to return March 1.

She did not show.

Katherine Heigl's tenure on Grey's Anatomy has climaxed.

A Heigl source claims that Katherine “was at home and ready to return to work.” Another insider, however, “insists that it’s much more complicated than that.”

Whatever happened, Heigl and ABC mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now, rather than waiting for the end of the current season.

Therefore, you've officially seen the last of Dr. Izzie Stevens. Clearly, no love is lost on either side as this ridiculous behind-the-scenes saga finally fades to black.

It's hard to imagine it being managed worse by either side, but it's over now. Will Heigl's career continue to take off? Or is she only hurting it by bolting Grey's?

Oft-maligned malcontent Katherine Heigl just got her wish.

The 30-year-old actress will be leaving Grey's Anatomy this fall. At least temporarily. She will be filming the omantic comedy Life as We Know It, reports say.

Grey’s Anatomy has worked around Heigl’s schedule before, but giving her an extended leave is a puzzling move - especially considering her recent behavior.

Katherine Heigl is known as much for disparaging remarks about the show as for her work on it (she won an Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy in 2007).

The temporary departure of her character, Izzie Stevens, "will be explained on screen," although it’s not yet clear how. Wonder if it ends up being permanent.

Katherine Heigl: So beautiful. So talented. So obnoxious.

Heigl’s departure, which starts this month, will likely coincide with her co-star Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave, meaning that Grey’s Anatomy (which just bid farewell to George) will be without Izzie and Meredith at the same time.

Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes said that this will be a transitional season for the show, and "eventually, everybody is going to leave."

We just didn't think they'd be shedding cast members so fast.

Following the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, and the gossip that dominated the series all year long, the buzz was that either T.R. Knight or Katherine Heigl, or both, would be leaving the show at the conclusion of the drama's fifth year.

Well, it now appears that T.R.'s George O'Malley will move on into the light after his tragic bus accident, while Katherine's Izzie Stevens will beat brain cancer.

Knight is leaving the show for good, according to EW. Meanwhile, E! News reports that Heigl "will be back," though neither ABC or the star have commented.

BEST FRIENDS in real life and on TV, T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl have long been the center of Grey's Anatomy gossip. Looks like one's going and one's coming back.

Season Five's finale left Grey's Anatomy viewers wondering if Izzie, with cancer, would awake after flatlining, while George struggled to survive a bus crash.

The impression you got was that Izzie was ready to return to her life, while George was fine passing on. Looks like this turned out to be the correct conclusion.

Jessica Capshaw, who plays cute lesbian surgeon Arizona, has been signed as a full-time series regular for the upcoming sixth season, premiering in September.

In a word ... seriously!?

As Grey's Anatomy faded to white, Izzie stood in the elevator in her prom dress from Season Two, with George in his new Army uniform staring back at her. The presumed afterlife encounter was the last we will see of either ... until September, anyway.

Katherine Heigl at New Year's Even Premiere

After almost an entire year of off-screen and on-screen drama regarding the future of Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens) and T.R. Knight (George O'Malley), their status remains ambiguous after last night's heart-stopping Grey's Anatomy finale.

Izzie was getting better, and George finally had a purpose, enlisting as an Army doctor. But then she coded at the end, while it a bus crash patient whose facial injuries made him unrecognizable turned out to be George. He crashed, as well.

Creator Shonda Rhimes was still coy in an interview this morning on the fate of Heigl and Knight. Here are some questions about the two beloved, likely-dead characters, and those who we know will be back, that linger as we await Season Six ...

  • Where does Dr. Bailey go from here?
  • Will Lexie and Mark move in together?
  • Are Cristina and Owen like, a couple now?
  • Will Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) be around next season?
  • As the baby bump becomes more and more visible, is Ellen Pompeo's pregnancy going to be written in, or will she go on leave?
  • Was the Meredith-Derek wedding - officiated by themselves, and with hastily written vows recited via post-it note - the real deal?
  • Will this be the most talked-about episode since the second season finale (2006), in which Izzie wore said prom dress as Denny passed away?
  • Is this ending the result of the producers' own ambiguity over whether George and Izzie will die - and/or the actors' willingness to come back?

What do you think? Was it outrageously bad? Are you exhausted in every way? Did you find the Grey's Anatomy season finale exhilarating?

Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy's creator and executive producer, wants to set the record straight: T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl are not leaving the show.

"That was a very interesting rumor," Rhimes said. "And it's not true."

Heigl and Baby

Speaking at the 40th NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles, Rhimes was referring to the recent comments by Grey's Anatomy cast member James Pickens Jr., in which the actor seemed to confirm their impending departure.

Are best friends T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl leaving Grey's Anatomy this season or not? This question has persisted for months - and the answer is still unclear.

"That was absolutely taken out of context," said Rhimes. "Things happen, and ... I think rumors become fact very easily. And you know I don't like to tell you what's going to happen on the show – but that is a rumor."

Not sure how "Yes, she is" and "He's going too" could be taken out of context exactly, but James Pickens, Jr., is now spouting the company line as well.

"We've been living with these rumors for a long time," he said. "When the question was posed to me, I was more trying to congratulate Katie and T.R. on whatever they were going to do. But yeah, I don't have any special info about it."

Mmm hmm. It's hard to know what to even think anymore. But we can tell you this fact with absolute certainty: Katherine Heigl pictures are hot!

Grey's Anatomy spoiler alert! After months of rumors that stars Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight may be leaving the show, their co-star James Pickens, Jr., a.k.a. The Chief, has added fuel to the fire by sort of confirming they are:

"Yes, she is," he said when asked by Us Weekly if Heigl will exit the show that made them famous. "Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best."

Heigl on Today

As for Knight, Pickens said, "He's going too."

The network and studio say they cannot confirm anything, and Katherine Heigl's and T.R. Knight's personal reps have declined to comment on the subject.

However, an ABC source says, "There's no way [James Pickens] could know that, because nothing has been decided yet. Nothing has been written and [Heigl and Knight] are still working out what will happen next season with the network."

T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl want out of Grey's Anatomy.

According to inside sources who work closely with Grey's Anatomy, it is likely that Heigl and T.R. Knight will make an exit at the end of the current fifth season.

Both have asked to leave. However, ABC needs to sign off on letting them out of their contracts, which extend six years, and that hasn't been done.

So why did Pickens say they are leaving?

"I don't think James meant to say what he did," one insider said. "I think he was thrown by the line of questioning and didn't realize what he was saying."

Never one to shy away from speaking her mind, Katherine Heigl has taken herself out of the running for the upcoming 60th Annual Emmy Awards.

The reason? Last year's Best Supporting Actress said Grey's Anatomy, her hit show for four seasons, just didn't give her enough to work with.

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season that warrants an Emmy Award nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention," Katherine Heigl told the Los Angeles Times.

"In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from another actress who was given such materials."

Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl sure is full of hot air!

Heigl's latest controversial comments either reflect a gracious gesture to her fellow actresses, or a dubious and obnoxious indictment of the people who put her in those non-Emmy situations - the Grey's Anatomy writing staff.

Our guess is it's the latter. While we admit, the show took a swan dive off a cliff creatively in the past year, who does this girl think she is? Oooh, we're so sorry they didn't give you enough to work with, Katherine! Get over yourself.

Just weeks after Grey's Anatomy returned with new episodes, sources are saying Katherine Heigl is itching to bolt and hang up her scrubs. Again.

This is not the first time this rumor has circulated. Nor will it be the last. Heigl is said to be dreaming of bigger and better things.

Katherine Heigl, Family

"She's working really long hours and is ready to move on," a source close to the actress told MSNBC.

Fifteen months ago, Heigl renegotiated her Grey's Anatomy contract. The net result was that the negotiations went public and she got the raise she wanted from the show, but questions about her status have lingered.

ZZZZ: Being extremely hot and full of one's self is hard work!

Compounding the issue is the fact that Heigl has already had significant big-screen success with her leading roles in Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. She's slated to star with Gerard Butler in The Ugly Truth next.

"She is smart. She saw what can happen with somebody like Jennifer Aniston, who was crazy successful on TV, but can't seem to carry a film, and she tested the waters early," said a movie industry source.

Even so, Katherine Heigl might be locked into Grey's Anatomy a bit longer. "I don't think she'll be able to get out of it," the source said of her contract.
