Royal romance alert: Kate Middleton and Prince William have posed for their first official photos as an engaged couple.

Taken at St. James's Palace in London, the following pictures were snapped by Mario Testino, who said of the session:

"I am very happy to have been asked to cover this historic moment that the whole world was waiting for. They are in their prime and brimming with happiness. I have never felt so much joy as when I see them together."

  • Royally Adorable
  • Officially Engaged, Cute

The big event will take place on April 29... that is, if certain scandalous shots of Kate and her family don't ruin everything.

For now, plans are going ahead as scheduled.

Major intoxication. Public urination. And the embarrassing photos Great Britain's Royal Family does not want anyone to see.

All of these developments and more are teased in the latest issue of Life & Style, which we're confident is a completely reliable source when it comes to news on Kate Middleton and her relatives.

Kate in Crisis!

According to sources not remotely close to the family, pictures were taken of the Middleton family on April 15, 2009. They allegedly show Kate's brother, James, in an overly drunken state, headed for a London lounge named Raffles.

It's possible this 3D thing is getting out of hand. Royally out of hand, we should say.

Following in the overpriced, extraneous footsteps of every other movie produced in Hollywood these days, British networks are reportedly considering airing the Kate Middleton and Prince William nuptials in 3D.

Royally Famous

“That is obviously of some interest, but our responsibility is to bring things everybody can see on air and 3D has a very limited footprint,” one BBC executive said.

A solution could be to pipe the 3D broadcasts into certain public places, such as pubs and movie theaters.

Whatever. As log as this Snoop Dogg song is involved in some capacity, we'll tune in.

He's already a reality show judge and record producer. But Simon Cowell is looking to add another title to his resume: wedding planner.

Speaking to Extra, Cowell offered up an idea for who should sing at the royal nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"Susan Boyle would be perfect," said the former American Idol panelist, adding that Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" would be the ideal wedding song for the pair.

  • SuBo with Flowers
  • Greeting the Public

As the world knows by now, William and Kate got engaged last month and have scheduled their exchanging of vows to take place at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. Billions are expected to watch on television.

Would Boyle be able to handle that pressure? Do you think she'd made a good choice to sing at the reception?

What's the only development that will get tabloids in more of a frenzy than rumors of an engagement between Kate Middleton and Prince William? That's easy:

An actual Kate Middleton and Prince William engagement.

Following months of speculation over whether this couple was broken up or already wedding planning, trashy magazines scrambled this week to find some unique angle on the fact that Kate and William are simply happy, together and engaged. Let's see what they came up with:

  • The Real Kate
  • Making of a Princess
  • A Wedding Special

From stories on the "real" Kate (newsflash: she wears a bikini sometimes!) to inside dish on how Middleton has been molded into a princess, these publications claim to have it all. To wit:

Mark your calendars, set your DVR and prepare for total hyperventilation, readers:

Prince William and Kate Middleton have selected a wedding date and location! The monumental event, expected to be watched by billions of people worldwide, will take place on April 29 at Westminster Abbey.

This is the same venue that featured the 1947 wedding of then-Princess Elizabeth, William's grandmother the Queen.

Prime Minister David Cameron announced this date will be a public holiday across Great Britain, while palace officials say the Royal Famil will pay for the church service, the music and parties.

The millions of dollars spent on security? That will be footed by the British taxpayers. Can you imagine the ruckus that would break out if anything like that was attempted in America? Yikes.

A few days after their engagement was made official, more details and rumors are coming out regarding the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

For example: Phillipa Lepley is the leading candidate to design Kate's dress.

But the most pressing question of all remains unanswered: When will these two walk down the royal, expensive aisle?

Royal Eye Gazing

No date has been announced, but multiple sources confirm there's a good chance the nuptials take place in late April.

"There is a date they have in mind, and it's a case of working it out with the relevant parties," a spokesman said.

The dress Kate Middleton wore to face reporters last week is already sold out around the globe.

But commotion over that sapphire frock is nothing compared to the absolute frenzy that has broken out over who will design this beauty's wedding gown.

The Royal Couple

According to the betting firm of William Hill, Phillipa Lepley has become one of the favorites to land this honor. Late yesterday, a number of three-figure bets were placed on this British designer. Really. People are gambling on who will design Kate's dress.

"There is rarely smoke without fire, and I would suggest she is possibly in the running and on a shortlist," said a spokesperson for that wagering agency.

As for the month in which the wedding will take place? The firm has taken April off the board because so many people were placing bets on it. Amazing.
