Karen Rodriguez was eliminated from American Idol last week. After wiping off her makeup and hugging goodbye to all the finalists, the aspiring singer says she took the long view.

She told E! News:

"I always lived by the words 'Everything happens for a reason,' and there have been so many instances in my life where I've lost some things and you don't really know why [at the time], but in a few days or a few months I will see why. Maybe if I would have stayed in the competition longer, there would have been an opportunity I might have missed out on."

Elimination Song

What does Karen want to do next? Everything, just like a certain American Idol judge.

"I would love to do movies and commercials. That would be one of my dreams. I admire Jennifer Lopez so much for that because she's been able to handle that so well, having music and movies and doing everything she's been doing, so I definitely want to be like her."

Rodriguez may have lost out to more popular contestants such as Pia Toscano, but the elimination hasn't put a damper on her confidence. She says:

"There are so many things above American Idol that I want to do. I want to win a Grammy. I want to win an Oscar. I want to do so many things that will just keep topping the other."

If most American Idol viewers agree that Pia Toscano put on the best semifinalist performance last night among the remaining 12 women, these same fans would say that Karen Rodriguez put on the most interesting.

Perhaps even the most scandalous, according to THG readers.

The New York native threw in a twist to her rendition of Mariah Carey's "Hero," singing almost half of the song in Spanish. This actually riled up a few respondents in our blog, who called Karen out for daring to be different.

Watch the performance now and sound off: Do you see anything wrong with the inclusion of a Spanish verse?

Ryan Seacrest summed up last night's American Idol audition episode simply and sadly: "Our Los Angeles auditions have been far from successful."

It's true. Only five golden tickets were handed out and only one of them went to a contestant rumored to be in this season's top 40: say hello to Karen Rodriguez.

Following this 21-year old's rendition of a Whitney Houston single, Steven Tyler said she possessed "spit and fire." She also wasn't shy about expressing her love for Jennifer Lopez, to whom the New York native actually sang on MTV's Total Request Live years ago.
