Juan Pablo Galavis and girlfriend Nikki Ferrell are making progress, Couples Therapy Dr. Jenn Berman says, though there is clearly room for improvement.

On Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 7, and pretty much every episode prior to that, the two personalities have shown how deep their issues run.

Nikki's penchant for throwing fits when she doesn't get her way and the way Juan expresses emotion and affection (he doesn't) have been constant themes.

But Berman says they're coming along as a couple despite all this.

"Juan Pablo and Nikki have evolved through their therapy," she tells People of The Bachelor's embattled winning pair. "But there's more work to be done."

"There are some specific things about Juan Pablo that have caused him to hold back, but both he and Nikki open up more and more as they go through therapy."

One big piece of advice she has for Nikki Ferrell and Juan Pablo?

This week on Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 7, we learned a good number of things about the random cast of celebrity characters living in the house.

And what a cast of characters that is.

Continuing a theme touched upon often in previous weeks, Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 7 took fans inside the mind of porn legend Jenna Jameson.

And what a warped place that is.

Dr. Jenn got the couples to open up about things in their past that have shaped who they are today. For Jenna Jameson, it was her mom's death.

Not for the loss itself, but for how her father responded and was so emotionally abusive, to the point where she couldn't even tell him she'd been raped.

Jenna's boyfriend John says he would never lay a hand on her because he's just not like that, but didn't know the extent of her past trauma either.

Dr. Jenn then takes them to a real house of horrors so they can vanquish their own internal house of horrors they live in. See the symbolism there?

Then Jenna Jameson smashes stuff.

The Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis should be used to relationship scrutiny by now, but he's facing a new torrent of it now as a cast member on Couples Therapy.

Nikki and Juan Photo

Last night's Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 6 saw him take serious heat for refusing to say "I love you" to Nikki Ferrell and playing the culture card (again).

The backlash came quickly and harshly from viewers, and Ferrell, who admits to being hurt by online haters, actually suspended her Twitter account.

Yet Galavis tells People that he and Ferrell are still going strong, and that the reality show and their romance in general is a process he has faith in.

Excerpts from his interview with the magazine below ...

On whether the single father and Nikki Ferrell are still together: "Yes. We're loving and missing each other a lot. (He's in Miami; she's in Kansas City.)

On the challenges of Couples Therapy: "It's a process. It's hard to get people to understand that sometimes. There's a stigma on the word 'therapy.'"

Wednesday on Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 6, Jenna Jameson finally opened up and gave us a little more insight into what a hard life she's actually had.

While her appearance on the VH1 show had previously been marred by her frequent blowups and arguments with fellow guests, Dr. Jenn got through at last.

Growing concerned about Jenna's relationship with John Wood, and about her in general, the psychotherapist learned about some of Jameson's issues.

Namely, John can be insensitive to Jenna's past. Not in the sense that she is one of the most porn stars ever, but in regard to the times she was raped.

Times, as in plural.

In one of the saddest moments of Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 6 and the season, Jenna revealed that her own father made her feel like this was her fault.

The Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis and his final rose recipient Nikki Ferrell are on Couples Therapy these days, and their situation hasn't changed much.

In fact, if you watch Couples Therapy online, you'll wonder how the heck these people are even together ... which is what we thought on The Bachelor, too.

If anything, last night's Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 5 was a true low point, simply because it showed us how little has changed in six months plus.

Every glimpse we get of their relationship makes us less invested in them, and more concerned for Nikki's self-esteem for putting up with this dude somehow.

Not that she's coming across as a real prize either, the way she complaints 24/7 about cameras following her and acts like she doesn't want to be there.

On a VH1 reality show that SHE SIGNED ON FOR.

That card didn't work on The Bachelor, but one could at least buy the notion that behind closed doors, perhaps they were private people who were truly happy.

No longer. It's as bad as we thought, if not worse.

On last night's Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 5, we got to see how the rest of the cast reacted to the reveal of Evel Dick Donato's HIV positive diagnosis.

Having told this secretly to Dr. Jenn last week, the Big Brother great struggled with whether to also tell the others on Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 5.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jenn enlisted the services of interrogation and body language expert Janine Driver to figure out who was there for the right reasons.

If that sounds like a plot from The Bachelorette, it's not far off. Remember on Andi Dorfman's season, how the guys had to take a polygraph test as well?

Driver, the human lie detector, made this uncomfortable for sure. But nothing like when Stephanie and Evel Dick agreed that he had to come clean.

In a group session, he shared his secret about having HIV with the group, and everyone was pretty shaken up, perhaps most notably Juan Pablo Galavis.

Nikki Ferrell and Juan Pablo Galavis of The Bachelor and now Couples Therapy fame face an uncertain future, and not because of any sort of cheating or scandal.

No, it's a tried and true relationship-killer that does in many duos every day, and that may soon claim another victim in the controversial reality TV pair:

Long distance.

Juan Pablo Galavis, Nikki Ferrell, Daughter

As we learned last week on Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 4, Nikki is still waiting to be "chosen" by Juan Pablo even though she won The Bachelor.

Meanwhile, the pressures of fatherhood, in addition to whatever his personal attitude toward relationships might, keeps Juan from making any moves.

Quite literally.

Nikki Ferrell broke down on the show, admitting that being closer together - she's in Kansas City, he's in Miami - might be the only way this is going to work.

The Bachelor stars and embattled lovers Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell have a breakdown, but later a breakthrough, on Couples Therapy Season 5 Episode 4.

Watch her get emotional in this talk with Dr. Jenn Berman as she finally admits why she has her guard up, and what's been hanging over her head for months ...

If you watched The Bachelor, you have to kinda sorta feel bad for Nikki Ferrell, even though she is far from perfect and dating Juan Pablo by choice.

Watching him give her the final rose, but no engagement ring or even the words “I love you,” rubbed many viewers the wrong way earlier this year.

Equally bizarre? Her willingness to defend him and even emulate her boyfriend's bitterness toward the reality show they signed up for in the first place.

Clearly, the pediatric nurse from Kansas City isn't truly happy with the way things are going with El Bachelor, and Dr. Jenn finally got that out of her.

The Bachelor's Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell may have been painful to watch on Couples Therapy, but they credit it with saving their relationship.

Things didn't exactly look good on the show (they rarely do with Juan Pablo regarding anything), but he and Nikki Ferrell are still very much together.

Thanks in no small part, he says, to the guidance of Dr. Jenn Berman.

"We are so glad we did [Couples Therapy]," Juan Pablo, 33, said.

"I don't think we'd be together right now if we hadn't done it."

The two have also shared a long-distance relationship, which hasn't helped matters, but the real challenge for Nikki was his lack of concern. For anything.

"I just sometimes feel like he's so nonchalant about things," Ferrell lamented to Berman. "I don't want to force anything from him, there's still a part of me who wonders."

"Maybe today it's gonna come. Maybe tomorrow it's gonna come."

Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell appeared on the premiere of VH1's Couples Therapy Wednesday night, and it was literally painful to watch.

Seriously, if you watch The Bachelor, you know how indescribably bad he was on that? Well, this is probably worse, because he's almost more earnest.

Normally that's a good thing, but with Juan Pablo? Being more earnest just means being even more open and honest about what a douche he is.

Remember when Juan Pablo Galavis non-proposed to Nikki Ferrell and didn't tell her he loved her, but she agreed to stay with him on the finale?

Well, that was then and ... it's also now. On Couples Therapy, we learn that he still hasn't done so, and still has no idea (or concern) about Nikki's feelings.

Dr. Jenn Berman, the soothing counseling and reality show host, asked Juan Pablo gently on the premiere what he thinks about the duo's future.

“I haven’t thought about it,” he says.

Words fail us at this point, honestly.
