Paula Abdul's manager says his client has not been offered a contract to return to American Idol.

Simon Cowell says he definitely wants his fellow judge and occasional flirt to come back next season.

What do past Idol contestants say about the possibility of Abdul's absence from the show?

We couldn't get a hold of Adam Lambert because he's on the road touring, but Jordin Sparks was fully on Paula's side in an interview with Extra this week:

“Oh my gosh, they need to keep Paula,” the season six champion said. “It would be so different without her on the show... She was the one who usually came back and was like, ‘Are you guys doing okay? Are you fine?’ And I definitely think they need her. She’s amazing and deserves it.”

Despite Jordin's kind words, Abdul might still be replaced on the show.

If that happens, who do you think should take her spot?

No one on the planet can relate more to David Cook that last year's American Idol champion, Jordin Sparks.

After being in attendance at the show's finale and seeing Cook knock off David Archuleta for the title, Sparks offered the rocker one piece of important advice:

Boston Hopefuls

"Sleep as much as you can because you don't get any sleep. It's a year later and I still haven't gotten a whole eight hours of sleep yet … I'm still reeling from winning last year. But, I guess I would say just try and enjoy every moment you have.

David Cook and Jordin Sparks have a lot in common.

Like an endorsement for Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton from Al Gore, the support of Jordin Sparks should mean a lot to this year's American Idol finalists.

With that in mind, the two heavy favorites - David Cook and David Archuleta - should rest easy tonight.

"I really like Jason Castro," Sparks told MTV News from the orange carpet at last weekend's Kids' Choice Awards. "I like his look, and I love his vulnerability. He goes out there, and if he messes up, he's just like, 'Oops.'

But I like David Cook too. I think the guys are where it's at this year. I love you, girls " please don't get me wrong " and I could be totally wrong, because the show is so unpredictable."

I Won

Jordin Sparks won American Idol last season. Who will win this season?

Come on now, Jordin, pick a winner.

"It's going to be either David Archuleta or David Cook," she said, before sating that she ultimately believes David Cook will be America's next Idol.

We hope she's right!

Wow. And we thought President Bush was being phony this afternoon when he pretended to approve of John McCain as the Republican nominee for president.

Take a look at what Bush was thinking when last year's American Idol champion, Jordin Sparks, performed at the White House earlier this year...

Do you agree? Do you think Blake Lewis should have won?

We wonder how Bush will feel about David Archuleta ... we mean, whoever ends up being crowed this year's American Idol champion.

Wanna become the next Carrie Underwood? The latest Kelly Clarkson?

The chance to do so begins this Monday, as auditions for American Idol Season Seven kick off in San Diego. Before the latest batch of hopeful give their pipes a run-through, USA Today asked seven of last year's finalists to offer a few tips...

Jordin Sparks: Know that they're watching to see if you'll crack under pressure. Sing something nobody else is doing, because by the 10th time they've heard it, they're going to cut you off early, and you need all the time they give you. Smile. Dress nice, but not so nice. Maybe smart casual.

Blake Lewis: People have to realize it's a show, and producers want what's best for television. You're trying to get a job. You've got to be yourself and be confident. I didn't view it as television, so it was easy. You're not even singing a whole song. Just be true to yourself. There will always be other auditions.

Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis and other American Idols have advice for newcomers.

Melinda Doolittle: One of my friends did the whole audition with her eyes closed. She can sing beautifully, but she didn't connect with the judges. Even if you're nervous, look them in the eye. Sing a song you believe in, one that you can really sell. Capture their attention. They're looking for more than singing.

Phil Stacey: You've got to be real. The truth is, I would have left a better impression if I had done the music I wanted to do from the start rather than wait until I was comfortable. Blake went a long way because he was crystal clear about who he is.

Gina Glocksen: Don't get overwhelmed. It's going to be a long day. Don't sing Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston or Etta James. Make yourself be noticed without overdoing it. I remember this girl at the L.A. auditions who looked as if she didn't have a care in the world. She made it through.

Chris Sligh: Be comfortable. Have fun with it, and show some personality. Maybe tell a joke. I mean, three jokes got me to the top 10. Be original, be funny.

Haley Scarnato: Stay true to who you are, which is hard to do when you're on a TV show. Focus on the song and get caught up in that moment so you won't let everything else overwhelm you.

What, nothing from Antonella Barba? She must be too busy planning a major photo shoot with Amy Polumbo or something.

Rumors that Blake Lewis has seen Antonella Barba nude were never confirmed.

Neither is the following story regarding the second place finisher's love life, but it's our duty to report it anyway: Blake may be dating Jordin Sparks.

Park, John

TMZ says these American Idol finalists have denied hooking up, but they were spotted "holding hands" while shopping at a Fry's Electronics store near L.A., a source reports.

They wandered around the store, seemed "happy" together and then Blake was overheard saying Jordin: "We should call your mom." And why would that be the case unless these two were more than friends, right?

Blake Lewis may be beat boxing in bed with Jordin Sparks these days. Call it celebrity gossip, but call it an exciting possibility, as well.

Lewis and Sparks will join other contestants from this season, such as Melinda Doolittle, during the American Idol summer tour. It appears, however, that these two have formed their own, naked duet.

But be careful, Blake: Jordin is only 17. We're talking about Hayden Panettiere territory here.

It was an unusual night on American Idol, as Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry sold his soul and rocked out with Sanjaya Malakar for some reason.

But at least viewers showed they were nice and sane by voting for Jordin Sparks as this season's Idol champion.

The 17-year old proved far superior is singing talent to fun-loving beat boxer Blake Lewis on Tuesday night, draining a bit of tension from Ryan Seacrest's announcement at the end of a long evening.

It was one that included the return of every past American Idol champion except Fantasia Barrino. But Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard joined eliminate Idols from this season in reprising a few songs by The Beatles.

Yes, fellas, Haley Scarnato was one of them. And you better believe she was wearing a skirt shorter than the duration of the upcoming marriage between Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.

Blake Lewis, you seem like a very nice guy. And you'll beat box your way to a successful music career, we have no doubt.

But after last night's American Idol performances, it's apparent that Jordin Sparks is simply a much, much better singer. Here's what a slew of insiders had to say about the results:
Simon Cowell (to Jordin): You just wiped the floor with Blake.
USA Today: Jordin Sparks can handle a saccharine ballad with ease, and even threw in a little extra artificial sweetener by sobbing a bit to finish it up but not before she had soared through the chorus and hit a crowd-pleasing glory note toward the end.
TV Guide: Jordins slated for the big win. Thats my story and Im sticking with it! Jordin is my pick. After all, it is a singing competition.
People magazine (on the final song:) [Jordin] just stood there, opened her mouth and out came beautiful music colored with emotion. She somehow infused the song with radiance and strength.
Opinions haven't been this much in agreement since readers spoke up in support of Greg Laswell. Or against Tameka Foster.
So tune in tonight to American Idol to witness the deserving coronation of Ms. Jordin Sparks.

The night is almost upon us. When American Idol broadcasts its season finale this week, millions - and millions and millions - of eyes will be upon the show.

Before we learn who will follow in the winning footsteps of Carrie Underwood, though, let's hear from the final two contestants.

Katie Stevens Promo Pic

Both Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis talked with reporters after they moved on in the competition last week. Here are some highlights, beginning with Jordin:

If she loses: If I don't win, it won't be the end of the world. It's not going to be, ‘Oh my God, I'm never going to sing again.' I'd be happy if I win. I'd be happy if Blake wins.

Simon Cowell saying she sounded old last week: Simon's comments always stay with you. But at the same time, I can't really base what I'm doing on that. Sometimes I do. But he says what he feels. It was old fashioned. But it was a song I loved. I just wanted to sing it really badly.

Favorite judge and best advice: I loved meeting Martina McBride. I've listened to her music for so long. She's amazing. I loved meeting Gwen Stefani… I think I cried when I met her. The best advice came from Jennifer Lopez. She was just so amazing. She made us feel so relaxed. ‘Don't worry. Sit down, let's talk awhile.'

Favorite past Idols: I love Kelly Clarkson… the way her career has gone so amazingly well for her. She manages to stay out of the tabloids. She is so amazing. Also, Carrie Underwood has had an amazing career so far.

Now, let's hear what that hottie, Blake Lewis, had to say...

A few weeks ago, we urged fans of American Idol to vote for Antonella Barba.

At that time, though, we found the young singer attractive and - let's be honest - just wanted to see more of her on stage.

Acoustic Adam

But we're now urging all readers to get out and vote for Jordin Sparks for a very different reason: the girl can sing. Very, very well. Please don't punish the 17-year old for one poor Bon Jovi performance - if anything, admire her for going outside her strong suit.

In the view of our experts, Jordin has the second best pure singing voice on the show next to Melinda Doolittle. We'd like to see those two square off in the finals.

Of course, if fans were as blown away by Blake Lewis and his beat boxing last night as the judges were, it could become a three-horse race. And that's fine by us.

As long as Jordin is one of the horses, and not Lauren Conrad's piece of man candy, Chris Richardson.
