If you knock up Rielle Hunter (and make a sex tape) while your wife's terminally ill, then use her cancer to win sympathy from voters while seeking your party's nomination for President of the United States, you are a pretty bad person.

Still, John Edwards says, he didn't do anything illegal.

With daughter Cate Edwards standing behind him, he pleaded not guilty to using campaign money to cover up his affair and love child with Hunter.

"There is no question that I’ve done wrong," the two-time former presidential hopeful said outside the federal courthouse in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"I take full responsibility for having done wrong. I will regret for the rest of my life the pain and the harm that I’ve caused to others. But I did not break the law, and I never, ever thought I was breaking the law."

A federal grand jury indicted John Edwards for breaking federal campaign finance laws while he was running for president back in 2008.

A North Carolina grand jury has formally indicted former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards on criminal campaign finance violations.

The charges stem from the Rielle Hunter sex and love child scandal that ended his political career when the National Enquirer exposed him in 2007-08.

The Democratic V.P. nominee in 2004 and candidate for president in 2004 and 2008 was charged with four counts of illegal campaign contributions, plus one count of conspiracy and one count of false statements.

The federal indictment comes after a probe into whether John Edwards used money from two supporters to cover up his affair with Rielle Hunter.

The former campaign videographer with whom he had a child also dumped him recently, according to reports that have not been confirmed.

Prosecutors say the money from John's supporters to Hunter constituted campaign donations because it furthered his political career.

Edwards attorneys say that interpretation of campaign finance law is bogus.

Did former presidential candidate John Edwards just get dumped by the one human being who might possibly be willing to hang out with him these days?

According to reports, yes. Rielle Hunter broke up with him.

With John facing indictment in federal court for "alleged campaign law violations" resulting from his affair with Rielle and covering it up, she's had enough.

Here's what a source had to say about the big breakup: "[She] dumped him ... their relationship is pretty much over ... there's no repairing it now."

According to reports, the dumping took place days before the indictment of John, who was also divorced by his wife before she died last winter.

Dude really has no one left in his corner. The lesson in all of this:

With John Edwards facing a federal indictment over his alleged use of campaign funds to cover up his love child scandal, new details of his affair with Rielle Hunter and the sex video they made during his White House run are coming to light.

Specifically, how pissed he is that she didn't erase the f%*king tape!

In an amazing outburst, the disgraced politician reportedly exploded after a judge ruled portions of his testimony under oath would be made public.

Edwards reportedly put it to Rielle Hunter on tape in a hotel room in Indianapolis in 2007. She was already several months pregnant at the time. 

"John took his anger and frustrations out on Rielle," an insider told the National Enquirer, the publication that first broke the story back in 2008.

"He screamed at Rielle, calling her a moron for not destroying the tape, and yelling that she made a fool of him for talking him into making it."

"Rielle was in tears, and tried to apologize, but John didn't care," says the source. "His worst nightmare is that the tape will get on the Internet."

The U.S. Department of Justice is gearing up to throw the book at disgraced former presidential candidate John Edwards for alleged violations of campaign laws.

The alleged crimes took place as the former U.S. Senator tried to cover up an extra-marital affair and love child, revealed in '08 by the National Enquirer.

Edwards is aware the government intends to seek an indictment and is considering his (limited) options. He could accept a plea deal of some kind.

The government contend that huge donations made to his presidential campaign were used, illegally, to support and seclude his mistress, Rielle Hunter.

If the case were to proceed to trial, the government would have to prove that the intent of the donations was to cover-up the affair so that Edwards could continue his pursuit of the 2008 Democratic nomination for president.

Not a big stretch, according to his ex-aide Andrew Young.

The former staffer says he was intimately involved with all facets of the coverup - even claiming paternity. He also has a John Edwards sex tape, BTW.

Hunter was a campaign videographer with whom Edwards had a lengthy affair that resulted in a daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, now three years old.

Looks like John Edwards will be forced to kiss and tell. Under oath.

The disgraced former presidential candidate must testify in court about his infamous affair with Rielle Hunter, a North Carolina judge determined.

The testimony is part of a lawsuit filed by Hunter against Edwards' ex-aide, Andrew Young, regarding the sex tape she allegedly made with John.

Short story: Hunter wants the John Edwards sex tape back, while Young claimed that he found the tape in his home, therefore it's his now, lady.

Hunter lived with Young and his family to conceal Edwards cheating on his wife and getting Rielle pregnant while RUNNING FOR U.S. PRESIDENT.

Sorry, the absurdity of this story will likely never wear off.

Despite a report this week that John put a ring on it, "the reports are false and he is not engaged," a family spokesperson said earlier today.

Sheesh. How dare people assume an upstanding individual like John would ever pull such a move. It's not like he's some cad who cheated on his terminally ill wife and knocked up Rielle Hunter while running for U.S. President. Oh, wait ...

Edwards' affair became public knowledge after he was busted in 2008. He denied their child was his until over a year later when he was busted again.

The disgraced former U.S. Senator's estranged wife, Elizabeth Edwards, passed away last month at age 61 after a long struggle with breast cancer.

At least she cut him out of her will at the last minute.

Talk about a parting shot. Elizabeth Edwards cut her estranged, cheating husband John out of her will less than a week before passing away.

Elizabeth, who died last month after a courageous battle with breast cancer, left everything in her sole possession to their three children.

Cate Edwards, a 28-year-old lawyer and the pair's eldest child, was named as the executor of her mom's will, according to Inside Edition.

John Edwards was not mentioned even once in the document.

PERSONA NON GRATA: John probably had this one coming.

Edwards, who was 61, signed the document on December 1 - six days before she passed at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C., succumbing to breast cancer.

She and John were married for 33 years, but were estranged by the end after his affair and love child with Rielle Hunter - which he lied profusely about, and took place as Elizabeth was terminally ill and he was running for U.S. President.

Yup, that'll pretty much do a marriage in.

Don't worry, though. John being cut out of the will, while deserved, was symbolic for the most part. He and his $25 million net worth will be fine. How long you think until he and Rielle tie the knot? With this guy? A year max.

Will Rielle Hunter become the next Mrs. John Edwards? Does National Enquirer have absolutely no shame? It's definitely possible and absolutely, yes.

Elizabeth Edwards passed away less than a month ago, and already, the notorious tabloid is playing up Hunter's possible marriage to John Edwards.

It was the Enquirer, of course, that blew the lid off Edwards' affair and love child with Rielle Hunter back in 2008. So we suppose you can't rule this out:

NO SHAME: The Enquirer is pushing it with this one. On the flip side, John Edwards might actually be callous enough to pull a move like this. Dude's shady.

This story is really unlike any other we've covered in five years. The reports keep getting more and more absurd, and you keep assuming it has to be bogus.

Then a court subpoenas the real John Edwards sex tape and you can only scratch your head. We'd pencil in the nuptials for this summer, likely at his estate.
