Joey Buttafuoco is writing a tell-all book about the Amy Fisher saga. Seriously.

Buttafuoco believes it's "clean the slate" and move on with his life ... by dredging up the infamous crime 20 years later? Anyway, it's gonna be called Closure.

"Everyone thinks they know [the story] but they really don't," says Joey.

Joey says the book his ex-wife Mary Jo Buttafuoco - who Amy Fisher shot in the face after Joey's affair with her in 1992 - wrote back in 2009 is not true.

It's an "angry account of an ex-wife who pieced together her own vision of why things happened. [She] had no knowledge of my life away from home."

Buttafuoco tells TMZ that "It's finally time for all of us to move on. My book is closure for everyone and our respected families. It's time."

Sure it is man.

Only in America can you have an affair with an underage girl who proceeds to shoot your wife in the face, then sue your ex-wife for defamation of character after she divorces you and publishes a book calling you a sociopath.

That's precisely what Joey Buttafuoco is doing, more than a decade and a half after mistress Amy Fisher put a bullet in his wife Mary Jo Buttafuoco's skull.

She just published Getting It Through My Thick Skull - Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know.

It's an appropriate title for several reasons. But Joey believes Mary Jo's describing and diagnosing him as a "good sociopath" is in her memoir is just unfair.

His lawyer claims: "The injury to Mr. Buttafuoco has been compounded by the publicity tour Ms. Buttafuoco has made to promote her book. She has appeared on numerous TV programs, repeating outrageous statements concerning my client's character."

"These defamatory statements have made Mr. Buttafuoco a pariah in the community, causing him public embarrassment and the loss of business."

Wait ... he had never suffered public embarrassment prior to this? And someone did business with him after Amy Fisher shot Mary Jo in the head?

Joey seeks damages and the removal of the book from the publisher's imprint.

Making the media rounds to promote her new book, Getting it Through My Thick Skull, Mary Jo Buttafuoco calls her ex-husband, Joey Buttafuoco, a sociopath.

Speaking on Good Morning America today, Mary Jo discussed her relationship with Joey, and answered the question: “Why did you stay with Joey for so long?”

"Because I believed him when he said he had nothing to do with her," she stated, referencing Joey's lover Amy Fisher, who shot Mary Jo in the face in 1992.

"He was a very good sociopath and liar. When I looked it up on the Internet, and looked at sociopathic tendencies, I said 'Oh My God.' Joey fit all the criteria."

Mary Jo Buttafuoco's new book has drawn attention to the term sociopath, the definition of which is a person with antisocial personality disorder, who is unable to confirm to societal norms and exhibits disregard for the rights of others.

Mary Jo Buttafuoco is really, really trying to drive her point home, though. It's like she's trying to make it so Joey Buttafuoco comes up when you Google "sociopath."

Joey Buttafuoco released a statement in defense of being called a sociopath, stating that he would prefer to be diagnosed as a sociopath by a doctor, rather than simply termed it by ex-wife, and feels "victimized" by the accusation.

Aww, poor Joey. One could argue that Mary Jo was victimized by being shot in the face by Amy Fisher, but that's neither here nor there at this point.

Mary Jo Buttafuoco said that her son stated to her, “Dad is a sociopath, and he’s never going to change.” She calls this realization a "revelation."

Asked why she stayed with Joey 11 years after the incident until divorcing him in 2003, she said "It's never one easy thing. Life is not like that."

True. Why let a single bullet lodged in your thick skull dictate things.
