In the national gun control debate, Vice President Joe Biden is viewed as the Democratic party's point man on strengthening the limits of firearm ownership.

In an online town-hall Q&A this week, Biden was bombarded by people skeptical of his efforts to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

One participant asked Biden how he and President Barack Obama reconciled a ban on assault weapons with those already in the hands of criminals.

"How can say this politely?" Biden said. "The Constitution does allow the government to conclude there are certain types of weapons that no one can legally known."

President Obama's inaugural address took place just hours ago, but V.P. Joe Biden is already hinting that he wants to replace his boss.

In 2016, that is. At a gathering of influential Iowans Saturday, the gaffe-prone Veep said, "I'm proud to be the president of the United States."

Biden, who unsuccessfully sought the presidency in 1988 and 2008, will be 73 in 2016, making him the oldest person ever elected president.

There's also the matter of Hillary Clinton, Obama's outgoing Secretary of State and the odds-on favorite for the Democratic nomination ... if she runs.

Clinton would be 69 and the second-oldest president elected (after Ronald Reagan), incidentally. Whether either actually runs is anyone's guess.

The Obama administration will either rue the day it created an online petition system or look at it as one of its signature accomplishments. A little of both, perhaps.

The latest hilariousness to come out of said program is a petition to "authorize the production of a recurring television program featuring Vice President Joe Biden."

We've seen a petition to classify Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group, for Texas to secede from the union, and for the U.S. to deport Piers Morgan.

Now people want VP reality TV.

"Vice President Joe Biden has a demonstrated ability to bring people together, whether at the negotiating table or at the neighborhood diner," states the petition.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to launch an administration-wife effort aimed at curbing gun violence, according to reports.

Following the horrific massacre at a Connecticut elementary school, Obama is tasking Biden, a longtime gun control advocate, with spearheading the effort.

In remarks from the White House, Obama outlined a process for pursuing policy changes following the shooting, though he was vague on specific measures.

Obama vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to safeguard the nation's children after Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.
