After culling the field from to 20 in last week's season premiere, Jillian Harris' second week as The Bachelorette got even tougher - and hotter! - last night.

As usual, The Hollywood Gossip's recap will revisit some of the highlights (and lowlights), with points awarded and deducted as we see fit. Let's get to it ...

Realizing he hasn't made much of an impression on Jillian, Mike strips down to a Speedo and runs into the ocean. Desperate, yes. But entertaining. Plus 2.

Brian greets Jillian Harris with "What's up, little hottie?" This obnoxiousness is topped only by Michael's taunting of the competition: ''In case anyone is curious what her bedroom is like, I, uh, can let you know later.'' Minus 6, morons.

Despite being the personification of bad taste, Brian does make a point about our girl. Plus 8 for how good Jillian looked in the bank vault. Wow.

Minus 3 for Brad being a moron. Who refers to it as "Papers, scissors, rocks?!?"

So now the show has resorted to scavenger hunting, as opposed to heart warming, to earn a rose. Plus 4 for officially entering Rock of Love territory.

Chris Harrison needs to personally pimp-slap Tanner P. His foot fetish obviously creeped Jillian out, and there is nothing otherwise likable about him, yet he gets a rose. Can the competition she kicked off really be that much worse? No, the producers just told Jillian to keep him around a few weeks longer. Weak. Minus 9.

Jillian: Bachelorette Babe

Wes Hayden is unbelievably painful. Minus 12. This is a man whose voice makes one cringe, and who makes one scream "DOUCHE!!!!!!" at the top of one's lungs upon each fleeting glimpse of his face, hair, stubble, tattoos and clothing, prompting one's wife to ask if perhaps, just maybe, you are taking this a bit seriously. Plus 30, because who are we kidding ... The Bachelorette needs a Wes Hayden.

Speaking of the lame singer, Plus 7 to Ed for looking directly into a camera, with a straight face, and saying Wes' connection with Jillian was "fabricated."

As if her appearance on the most recent season of The Bachelor didn't set the feminist movement back far enough, Jillian Harris says she's a bad driver because she's "a girl." Minus 12 Hillary Clinton-sponsored points.

Jillian to Jake: "I'm looking for my best friend." Jake to the camera, 3.5 seconds later: I was hoping Jillian would say ... she was looking for her best friend." Plus 9 for such amazing coincidences ... and Plus 4 more for Jake's abs.

Martina McBride performed on the show, just two months after her latest album, Shine, was released. Minus 11 for too many amazing coincidences.

David thinks Juan should be tied to a tree and beaten. Plus 15 for hilarious honesty, along with the slim chance that David wins The Bachelorette and his court-ordered anger management classes are the top story on People next year.

Wait... you mean Jillian can save Juan from going home by giving him a rose? Isn't that, you know, the entire premise of the show? Minus 27, ABC.

THIS WEEK'S TOTAL: -1! SEASON: +17!

Rose recipients: Wes, Jake, Mike (post-hot dates); Juan (voted off by guys, only to be saved by Jillian); Jesse, David, Ed, Sasha, Mark, Michael, Tanner P. (for some reason), Kiptyn, Reid, Robby, Tanner F., Brad (rose ceremony).

Packing their bags: Julien, Brian, Mathue, Simon.

One has a foot fetish. One is a breakdancing instructor. Another dude who claims to have a number one single ... in Chihuahua, Mexico! Yes, to put it mildly, the season premiere of The Bachelorette introduced some colorful characters.

Only 20 men remain and four more will be booted tonight. Who will take their game to the next level, and who will be left sweating when Chris Harrison ominously appears, announcing there is only one more rose left this evening?

One thing's for certain: the competition certainly heats up when the star of the show, Jillian Harris, invites eight of them to a pool party ... then disappears!

It turns out Jillian's sexy pool party was a ruse, and part of a scavenger hunt in which the men compete for the grand prize - a candlelit dinner for two.

Hoop Dreams

Meanwhile, seven other bachelors think they will be competing in a game of pickup basketball for Jillian Harris' attention, only to find out that the legendary Harlem Globetrotters, not one another, are the competition that afternoon.

Can any of them score - at the three-point line or afterwards?

Later, the scavenger hunt winner goes on his one-on-one date, but Jillian is worried that this fella may be too conservative for her, so she makes him trade in his khakis for sexy Western gear - at a private Martina McBride concert.

Just another day in the life of The Bachelorette!

Monday night's season premiere of The Bachelorette featured a lot of hot new guys and a familiar leading lady who stepped into the starring role with flying colors.

Jillian Harris' quest for love is going to be a fun ride.

Here's what Jillian herself had to say about meeting not just 25, but 30 men she must choose from, as excerpted from her blog on People.com ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Being The Bachelorette has been such an incredible experience for me, and I am really looking forward to sharing some of the exciting little tidbits that don’t make it into the show each week right here in this blog.
First things first! I searched long and hard for the perfect gown. The one we settled on was vintage, and had been worn on the red carpet.
I felt incredible in it, but it did need a lot of work to help it fit me like it did.
The only sad part/ The driveway outside is sprayed down before shooting to give it a nice glimmer, so the bottom of my gown got wet while I was waiting for the men!
Speaking of waiting for the limos, that was the very first moment that I felt nervous. I had a strange sense of calm all day, right up until that first limo pulled up.
Bachelorette Dance-Off!
The break-dance-off with Michael and Greg was one of the most fun moments of the night for me. I know I am not the greatest dancer, so I loved that the guys were able to encourage me and poke some fun at the same time.
I was completely overwhelmed by the first 25 guys. I had such a hard time remembering names that I called Jesse Josh ... twice! But then to have 5 more super-hot guys enter the room now that was almost more than I could handle!
I was the most nervous at the rose ceremony, when I had to eliminate 10 great guys. It was the first indication I had that I wasn’t going to be cool as a cucumber all season. It was incredible, difficult and emotional all at the same time."
Follow the jump for some more thoughts, this time from Chris Harrison, venerable Bachelor and Bachelorette host-pimp for 18 seasons, on Monday's show ...
She's back! Jillian Harris took the first step in her journey for love last night and The Hollywood Gossip's recap of The Bachelorette provides a rundown of memorable moments, with points awarded or deducted as we see fit.
Last night, Jillian took a look back at her previous quest for reality TV romance on The Bachelor, then met her suitors for this season. Let's get to it ...
Jill's hoping to find Mr. Right, and darn it, she's "going to make the right decision the FIRST TIME." Jason Mesnick just got straight up owned! Plus 5.
"Mr. Invisible" is who J says she's looking for. Perhaps should she focus on Mr. I'm More Interested in Love Than Reality TV Fame instead. Minus 4.
Chris Harrison welcomes Jillian back to The Bachelor house, and she looks breathtaking in a long white dress. She makes a pimp so proud. Plus 11.
Numerous times, Jill says how "shocked" she is over the decision she must make. Think they just re-use the same cue cards each season? Minus 4.
Jillian: "I don't give a $h!t what he puts on his hot dog, as long as he knows how to have a good time, has a good sense of humor, and loves me." Plus 8.
Don't get us wrong, there was some solid c*ck-blocking going on in this episode, but we somehow doubt that over the course of a season, these guys can match the consistent, crazy contestant quotient of The Bachelor. But here's hoping. Minus 2.
Maybe we're just noticing now because she's no longer going up against Melissa Rycroft, but did Jillian get way hotter overnight? Damn, girl. Plus 20.
  • Simon Ambrose
  • The Woman of the Hour
Simon (above), who not only wore a pink shirt, but has such a heavy English accent that it requires subtitles, has all the makings of a Grade A d-bag. We get the feeling this is the kind of guy who just got back from a trip to Bora Bora with his live-in girlfriend a week before ditching her to go on this show. And he gets a rose. Minus 10.
David from Ohio almost starts to cry from anxiety as he meets our girl. This is a rather pathetic display, but he redeems himself later, shocking the world when he wins the First Impression Rose. Good to see Jill likes the sensitive type. Plus 2.
Brian actually refers to our girl as "hot tub Harris." No wonder she so loathes the subject. He might as well have referred to her as "Ho Bag Harris." Moreover, he runs inside to make a couple of hot dogs. Weak sauce, B. Weak. Minus 6.
Jesse reveals an "aspiring Canadian" t-shirt. Nice touch. No word on whether he is more attracted to the universal health care or Jillian Harris, but Plus 3.
Minus 5 for ABC trying to hype up the "shocking" arrival of five additional dudes. Wow, 30 guys instead of 25? Really pushing the envelope there, ABC. Plus 3, though, because some of the original 25 were quite noticeably rattled by their arrival.
The writers have seen Super Troopers too many times. Inspired by the "Meow" game, they were clearly trying to see how often Jason could say "amazing" per episode. With Jillian, we're gonna need to start a "cool" count every week. Minus 3.
TOTAL: +18! A solid start to what is hopefully a drama-packed, romance-laden season of The Bachelorette in which Jill finds her future husband.
Advancing to the next episode are: David (first impression rose); Jacob, Jesse, Wes, Mathue, Michael, Robert, Edward, Reid, Simon, Kiptyn, Mike, Brian D., Sasha, Julien, Tanner P., Mark, Brad, Tanner F., Juan (rose ceremony).
Dumped by Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor, can Jillian Harris find Mr. Right?
“I definitely know that falling in love is very, very possible," said Harris - who finished third on The Bachelor but gets a second chance at love as The Bachelorette, which premieres tonight. "And I'm obviously in a very good mood right now."
What a wonderful, vague, happy-sounding non-answer!
"[My fear going into The Bachelorette was] what if I don’t fall in love? What if I get to the end of it and I don’t feel the way I’m supposed to feel? Is it really possible?" Jillian Harris added. "But I can say that that is not a problem."
I'm definitely feeling the way I wanted to feel in this situation.”
Jillian and Melissa Rycroft came close to landing the single dad's heart, but fell just short. Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney, the winner, are going strong.
While Harris, a 29-year-old restaurant designer from Canada, has moved on in her search for love, she says Mesnick encouraged her to do the show.
"Jason was helping me quite a bit to make up my mind to do this," Harris said. "He is somebody that I talked to and he really supported me. I had to sort of cut off my relationship with Jason [to do the show], but it’s temporary."
"I will definitely be friends with him after all of this is over."
How will The Bachelorette differ from last season's The Bachelor?
"I don't need my dad to see any more hot tub scenes!" Harris joked.
Remember how last week, when we posted about Monday's season premiere of The Bachelorette featuring a dance-off among two of Jillian's 30 suitors?
Well, those Bachelorette spoilers were apparently based on incomplete intel.
It's a breakdance-off!
While it's unclear if producers picked a "dance instructor" strictly for this possibility, or if he receives a rose at the end of the night, dude certainly knows how to get down as The Bachelorette momentarily morphs into You Got Served.
The preview below, and the reaction of Jillian Harris, pretty much tell you everything you need to know. These guys definitely need a victory hot dog after ...
They vied for the affection of Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor, and were both unlucky in love. Only one special young woman, Molly Malaney, won his heart.
But despite falling just shot, Jillian Harris and Melissa Rycroft captivated millions of viewers, and have come out smelling like roses just the same.
Canada native Harris is ABC’s new star of The Bachelorette, and Rycroft is a contender to win the coveted mirror-ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars.
Jillian recently declined to elaborate on her infamous hot tub scene with Jason, but she did tell People she's cheering Melissa on every step of the way.
“We are such huge supporters of each other,” Jillian Harris says of Melissa, with whom she says she became really good friends on The Bachelor.
“I’m so proud of her. I wish I could watch her more often but I’m so busy with [The Bachelorette]. But I’m definitely rooting for Melissa.”
Rycroft, who is heading into the Dancing with the Stars finale, says the feeling is mutual and that her pal will make a great Bachelorette.
“She’s one of the most genuine, down-to-earth girls I know. I absolutely adore her,” said Melissa Rycroft, who's now dating Tye Strickland.
Harris is in the final weeks of filming the new season, which premieres Monday.
Her lips are sealed regarding Bachelorette spoilers, but Jillian does promise that no matter how her search for Mr. Right goes, she won't follow Rycroft’s Dancing path.
Ever.
“I am THE worst dancer in the world,” she says.
Jillian Harris says her hot tub scene with Jason Mesnick made her dad's jaw drop on The Bachelor, but she's not clearing the air about what happened.
In fact, the newly-minted star of the new season of The Bachelorette calls a query about the liaison "probably the most inappropriate question ever."
"I'm normally a really open girl about these things, but I mean, it's one of those things that anybody can assume that if I had a steamy make-out session with Jason and I went in the hot tub that him and I quote-unquote did it," she said.
"We can also assume that every Bachelor and Bachelorette in the history of the show has done it with people. I think being a 30-year-old grown woman who is successful in her career and has a great background with great morals and values, people can take a look at me and who I am as a person and they're entitled to their opinion."
"I was actually waiting for that question. It's funny how it fires me up because I am doing something that's very public. But let's say I had slept with Jason. Then I don't think that's anybody's business. And let's say I hadn't. That also is nobody's business."
The hot tub hookup with Jillian was one of three close encounters Mesnick shared with the final competitors on The Bachelor in New Zealand.
He eventually said goodbye to Harris, setting up the season finale in which he chose Melissa Rycroft, only to break up with her for Molly Malaney.
Whatever happened in that hot tub - again, she's not saying - Jillian Harris harbors no ill will toward Mesnick or the aforementioned females.
