Michelle Obama, Jill Biden Booed by NASCAR Fans

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of the Vice President, served as grand marshals yesterday prior to a NASCAR race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. They were on hand to promote the military family-based project Joining Forces, starting the race along with a wounded veteran named Andrew Berry and his family.

And the famous wives were audibly booked upon being introduced to the crowd. Hear for yourself:

The sports governing body downplayed the response via a statement by Marcus Jadotte, NASCAR vice president of public affairs. It reads:

"The NASCAR community and the vast majority of those attending our race Sunday welcomed the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden and the military families in attendance. We are proud to support military families across the country and proud to support the Joining Forces initiative."

But, come on, we have ears. We can hear the negative reaction of many in attendance. Which leads us to ask: Booing the First Lady during a non-political appearance? Right or wrong?

Totally right, it's a free country!
Totally wrong, show some respect!

Michelle Obama, Jill Biden Attend World Series

Last night's game was ugly, but still provided plenty of star power at the opener of the World Series. No, we're not talking about A-Rod and Kate Hudson.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Jill, took the field during pre-game ceremonies to a big ovation, along with a Yankee legend.

Major League Baseball dedicated Game One of the Yankees-Phillies series, won by the NL champion visitors, 6-1, to the charity Welcome Back Veterans.

Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden escorted World War II veteran Yogi Berra - the Yankees Hall of Fame catcher - to the mound for the first-pitch ceremony.

All wore jackets with "World Series" on the front and their names on the back. Iraq war veteran Tony Odierno threw the first pitch to Derek Jeter.

Odierno, who lost an arm in Iraq, works in the Yankees' stadium operations department. His dad is Gen. Raymond Odierno, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.

Yogi Berra receives - and gets - a hand from Michelle Obama and Jill Biden.

Jill Biden is a Phillies fan. Michelle Obama, unlike her White Sox-fan husband, grew up a Cubs fan. They high-fived fans as they walked down the tunnel.

Earlier that day, Obama and Biden honored wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx.

The First Lady's message was simple but profound: We can all do a little something to honor the men and women of the military. And please, Michelle emphasized, don't forget the families they often have to leave behind while serving overseas.

"You can do something as simple as offering to drive a car pool, or offering babysitting," Obama told the room of veterans and staff members. "Above all, each of us can simply reach out and do something really small - and say thank you."

An Interview with the Democratic Hopefuls, Wives

With the Democratic National Convention in full swing this week, People has a cool interview with Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden, along with their lovely spouses, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. Here's the beginning ...

Q: This is the first mate you've chosen since Michelle.

Barack Obama: That's a good point.

Michelle Obama: Barack is looking for people who will challenge him, who will tell him no.

Barack Obama: That's exactly what you need [in a vice-president].

Michelle Obama: That's why he married me. (Laughs.) So I'd tell Sen. Biden, don't pull any punches.

Barack-Joe

Q: Now, if Sen. Biden starts yelling at you about picking up your socks ...

Barack Obama: Then we're in trouble. Don't do that, Joe.

Joe Biden: Don't worry.

Q: How did you pop the question?

Barack Obama: I called his office and they had to hunt him down. When I finally got him, he said he was at the dentist's. I realized later that he was being a doting husband, looking after [Jill Biden] during a root canal.

Q: How did Sen. Biden tell the family?

Jill Biden: My granddaughter, Maisy, turned 8 and we were having a little birthday party for her. We had just finished blowing out the candles and were cutting the cake. Joe said to everybody, 'Hey, I have something that I'd like to announce.' And he said, 'Barack called me and asked me to be vice-president.' Everybody – I get so emotional when I think about it – everybody clapped and started hugging.

Michelle Obama Welcomes Jill Biden

There's been a lot of sudden online interest in Jill Biden - the wife of U.S. Senator and newly-named Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden - in the 24 hours since he was named to the ticket led by Sen. Barack Obama.

Anne Romney can expect the same about this time next week.

Just our opinion. Now, here's a little background on Jill Biden ...

Born in 1951, she's a lot smarter than we are - she has four different college degrees in education. Not surprisingly, she's a college English professor!

Jill Biden is the president of the Biden Breast Health Initiative, a non-profit that provides educational breast health awareness programs in Delaware.

She and Joe married in 1977 and have a daughter, Ashley. He has two sons from his first marriage, which ended with the tragic death of his first wife.

She already has one big fan. When Barack Obama told wife Michelle Obama he'd decided on a vice presidential candidate, she gave him snaps – literally.

"I said, 'That's the right choice.' I was like, 'Good!'" she told People as she snapped her fingers in approval after her husband's announcement.

That morning Michelle Obama, 44, showed the same enthusiasm as she called Jill Biden to welcome her to the campaign trail.

"I see a historic moment," Jill said. "I have goosebumps when I think of what these two can do for the country."
