Jessica Simpson's weekend girls' night out was a welcome bright spot in an otherwise difficult week for the newly single, alleged singer and actress.

Since Tony Romo dumped Jessica Simpson before her 29th birthday, "She's a little depressed," says a family friend of the rapidly declining star.

"She takes breakups really badly. She has a hard time letting go."

Her romantic track record, which includes her divorce from Nick Lachey and her on-again, off-again relationship with douchebag singer John Mayer.

But Tony Romo seemed an ideal match for Jessica Simpson, who last year called the playoff-winless Dallas Cowboys quarterback "the love of my life."

Simpson has been coping by seeking solace with her parents, who "encourage her to go out and have a good time, like she did this week," says the friend.

But "she feels she's being judged by the world and opts to hide out at home," says the friend. "The family feels bad for Jessica. They worry for her a lot."

That wasn't always the case. "The family used to have such faith in [Jessica Simpson] and they worried about Ashlee," says the family friend.

"Now they are fully confident in Ashlee's choices and they worry most of their days about Jessica. It seems that she just can't catch a break."

Reeling from getting dumped by Tony Romo, Jessica Simpson rallied over the weekend the only way she knows how - partying with her girlfriends.

Jess, who just celebrated her 29th birthday, was joined by CaCee Cobb, Adrienne Sands and stylist Nicole Chavez for a quality girls' night out.

"Love my ladies!!!" Jessica Simpson posted on her Twitter account. "Wish I could be with them everyday of my life. Laughter is wonderful :)"

The next day, Simpson spent the evening with another one of her favorite ladies: Her mom. While watching the movie Great Expectations together, Tina Simpson teased her daughter on Twitter, saying:

"Seriously... [Jessica Simpson] will not stop talking about everything GREEN in this movie! I may puke 'GREEN'! BUT I love that she sees 'GREEN'!"

Simpson's heart may be broken, but she has managed to keep a low profile since her very public breakup with Dallas Cowboys QB Romo - which some believe came following some ill-advised John Mayer texts.

While the NFL star has been spotted recently hopping around the clubs in L.A. and casinos in Lake Tahoe, a source close to Simpson says the newly minted bachelorette "is surrounding herself with a network of support."

That doesn't include getting back together with Nick Lachey. But Jessica's hunky ex-husband does wish her the best, as he always has.

In June, Nick Lachey broke up with Vanessa Minnillo.

A month later, Jessica Simpson had her heart broken by Tony Romo.

The combination of these events has led certain celebrity gossip tabloids to speculate on the future of the former couple. Might Nick and Jessica get back together?

No.

"I think it’s fun storytelling, but there's very little truth to any of it," Lachey told People over the weekend. "I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I’ve always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say."

So, has Nick reached out to his ex-wife, following her split with the Cowboys quarterback?

"I haven't talked to her in probably two years," Lachey said. "I wish her happiness. That’s where it pretty much ends."

Apparently, the divorcees are "haunted by secret feelings" and Jessica realizes "she let a great guy get away." This after she got dumped an entire week ago.

Really, do you think they have even spoken in that time? And she has already stopped missing Tony, who she dated for a year in a half, and begun pining for Nick, who she divorced more than three years ago and split from even longer ago?

We doubt it. We are also disappointed better Jessica Simpson pictures were not selected for the cover. Cleavage sells, guys. You're welcome for the tip.

But we digress. Maybe we'll be totally wrong and they will live happily ever after. Thoughts? Should Jessica and Nick get back together?

Dumping someone before their birthday seems harsh, but reports suggest that Tony Romo had good reason for calling it quits with Jessica Simpson in such fashion.

He found text messages from her ex John Mayer.

Flying into L.A. Thursday, Romo quickly made up for lost time with Simpson but their reunion quickly took a turn for the worse, according to Radar Online.

“They were hanging out and he picked up her phone and she got defensive about it,” a source revealed. “Tony found messages from John and went ballistic.”

While the couple has had rocky patches in the past, the idea of Simpson possibly cheating with that douchebag was the straw that broke the camel’s back:

“Tony dumped her right then. He walked out and that was it.”

Since dumping Jessica Simpson, Romo has been taking comfort in his group of guy pals who are in town with him while he films a Pepsi commercial and attends the ESPYS.

Since the breakup, he and his crew have been spotted at the club MyHouse, dining at Yamashiro and partying at the Key Club. Now that's making up for lost time.

Asked two weeks ago  what he had planned for Jessica Simpson's birthday July 10, Tony Romo said, "It's a secret." Guess a kick out the door works best by surprise.

As it turned out, Simpson's birthday surprise turned out to be a shocker as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback ended their year-and-a-half relationship July 9.

So what's behind the Jessica Simpson-Tony Romo breakup? Nobody would say they didn't give it a good shot – weathering many a storm and breakup rumor.

After Simpson and her family went to see Romo play for the first time in November 2007, things moved pretty quickly – he even kissed her on their first date!

By May, rumors began to swirl that the couple was heading for a split. But Joe Simpson talked Tony Romo out of dumping Jessica her rep denied talk of a breakup, and Romo escorted Simpson to her sister Ashlee's wedding that same month.

The summer seemed blissful for the couple: Simpson went home with her man to Wisconsin where they had dinner with his parents. Later, she dedicated her song, "You're My Sunday," to Romo during a concert tour for her country album.

"They've been having a lot of problems lately in general," a source says.

Their last public appearance was July 1 when she sang the National Anthem at a golf tournament in Bethesda, Md. Just nine days later, Simpson ended up celebrating her birthday quietly "with family and close friends" after getting dumped.

Meanwhile, Romo was spotted out with a group of friends at L.A. hotspot MyHouse. According to a source, Romo was out with the guys to "lift his spirits."

Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson Thursday, according to reports.

"She is heartbroken," says a People source. "She loves Tony. But it's been difficult lately. He's busy with his football career and she's getting ready to shoot her reality show (The Price of Beauty). They just decided to part ways."

The Dallas Cowboys QB fueled breakup rumors when he showed up with about 14 friends at Hollywood hotspot MyHouse Friday without the birthday girl.

"He had quite a few girls stop by his dance floor table," says an onlooker. "Tony Romo was sipping Grey Goose and having a fun time with the boys."

Jessica Simpson had planned to throw a Barbie and Ken-themed party for her birthday, but it fell through, according to a post on her Twitter page.

"Barbie party didn't happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!" the aspiring singer Tweeted.

The source says Simpson is sad they broke up. "They were good together for along time," says the source. "But I guess it wasn't meant to be."

Still, Romo tried to dump her before and that didn't take, so there is always the chance they'll get back together. "They go from one fight right into another, without a second break," the source says. "It's always something with Jessica."
