Jermaine Jones didn't see it coming.

The 6'8" American Idol finalist was axed from the competition on Wednesday due to revelations about his criminal past, but said on HLN's Showbiz Tonight last night that he didn't foresee such a fate, not even when he stepped in to speak with producers earlier this week.

"I thought they were bringing it to my attention," Jones said in reference to a pair of arrests. "Letting me know that now they are aware of, you know, this, that and the third... Until they said it, I had no clue what was going to happen... I was shocked, but I can't really express what my emotions were at that time."

Jones declined to really comment on whether he thinks the show is "exploiting" his situation, considering it actually aired that meeting with executives and Ryan Seacrest teased the development on Wednesday's show, not actually revealing the truth until midway through the broadcast.

"I know that when I filled out my application, I circled 'yes' that I was previously arrested before," he said, citing a couple of "small infractions" when he was younger. "And, you know, they did a background check on me and there were some information that I had to get a lawyer to take care of before I could even be on the show."

Jones concluded that he doesn't think there are any warrants out there for his arrest and that he's "learned a lot' from the "humbling" experience.

"I'm doing great and I'm ready to get back into my music full force, and I'm grateful for everybody who's supporting me and loving me, it's just amazing."

In an unusual step, American Idol kicked Jermaine Jones off the show last night, following the discovery that the season 11 finalist had lied about a pair of arrests.

How are fellow contestants reacting to the development? A few relayed their thoughts People:

The Final 11

Phillip Phillips: "It was sad to see somebody go like that, with an awesome voice. It sucks."

Colton Dixon: "We found out what happened when you guys did. We were shocked, but at the same time, he's such a great guy. We all love him to death. He's truly the gentle giant. He handled himself so well, I'm proud of him."

Shannon Magrane: Jones "always has that great fun spirit, and he has always kept us laughing. He is so funny, we miss him already."

Hollie Cavanagh: "He's going to do huge things in music regardless of if he's on the show or not," she said. "It's just a little bump in the road. He'll prevail, and he'll do big things."

Heejun Han: "It's a competition. I really want to be honest about it. I'm not like, 'Oh, please don't go, please don't' go!'"

The 6'8" finalist is reportedly anything but a gentle giant, as TMZ has uncovered details from his March 5, 2011 arrest.

It stemmed from an incident at a Howard Johnson hotel in New Jersey, where Jones gave police a phony name and was charged with public nuisance and obstruction of justice, while also possessing outstanding warrants.

Jermaine Jones is reportedly getting kicked off American Idol.

The finalist was already in trouble for lying about the status of his relationship with his father, according to TMZ, when producers dug deeper into his past and uncovered a couple more untruths:

He has a criminal history. Jones has been arrested twice, providing a fake name to police on both occasions. One of the incidents also involved violence, sources confirm.

American Idol insiders say Jones will appear on tomorrow night's performance show, but will then be given the axe. It's unclear exactly how it will all go down.

Should Jermaine be kicked off the show?

Jermaine Jones is reportedly a very tall liar.

According to TMZ, the American Idol finalist told producers last week that his father abandoned him a decade ago, only to suddenly reappear in his life immediately after Jones was named one of the season's final 13.

Jermaine went on to label him a "lousy father" and said he didn't want contact with the man.

But now that man, Kevin Jones, says his son's story is simply ridiculous; the two have a perfectly normal relationship and even dined together last Wednesday and Thursday, while Jones was in the Idol crowd during last week's performance show.

Why would Jones concoct such a tale? For sympathy and attention, executives believes - and they are peeved.

But, with this lie now going public, the real question remains: Will viewers punish Jermaine for it? Stay tuned.
