The comparisons were inevitable, but Jennifer Lawrence would like to stop them before they grow too loud.

"The Hunger Games is not Twilight," the actress, who plays the main role of Katniss Everdeen in this March 23 release, says in the latest issue of Vanity Fair. "It's really premature to say that it will be the same phenomenon."

The Hunger Games Cast

Lawrence stars in the movie alongside an impressive young cast, pictured above on set in North Carolina, that includes Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. They round out the teen participants forced to compete to the death in the government-mandated Hunger Games.

"I'm so proud of the work we did on the film," Lawrence gushes. "[Director] Gary Ross and the entire cast and crew were amazing, and I can't wait for it to be brought to life because I think it's an important story. If it does become a crazy phenomenon, I'll soak up my freedom now!"

Josh Hutcherson? He has brown hair.

Liam Hemsworth? The guy who dated Miley Cyrus?!?

These were the reactions many readers of The Hunger Games had upon learning who would portray Peeta and Gale in the movie version of these books. But co-star Jennifer Lawrence can ease the concerns of any hesitant fans.

"Josh is so charming,” the woman behind Katniss tells Entertainment Weekly. “And when you read in the books about Peeta being able to manipulate anybody - I mean Josh could get, well, I don’t know a metaphor for [this scenario] except for dirty ones. But he’s charming, he’s sweet, he’s down to earth, he’s normal. He embodies all of it and brings it all to Peeta.. he’s got all of these great qualities and every single one of them come across in every line he says out loud as Peeta.”

After a quick glance at the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly, it's clear: Jennifer Lawrence IS Katniss Everdeen.

But how did the 20-year old blonde transform into the protagonist of The Hunger Games? She talks about the process in the EW feature piece.

On her hair: "I think I just have to stay tan. Or I'll look like the girl from The Ring."

What about training? The Oscar nominee has become adept at archery, track work, stunt drills, and yoga. She was also told to became lean, not "gaunt," in order to begin shooting this week in North Carolina.

On her Hunger Games outfit: "I want to make sure I can run and jump and climb. I've been driving [the costume designers] crazy with the boots: You have to fix this here, you have to make it lighter here, you have to open it up here.' The dresses I don't care about. Just put them on me. It's like Oscar season again."

Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for an Oscar as a blonde.

But she'll truly strike it big as a brunette.

The 20-year old actress was forced to dye her hair in order to get into character for The Hunger Games, as any reader of that novel trilogy knows Katniss Everdeen has very dark roots. You can see the transformation on the cover of EW and also in one of the photos below.

I love this story - and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.

So says Jennifer Lawrence to Entertainment Weekly in that magazine's latest issue. The Winter's Bone star was a controversial choice to portray Katniss Everdeen, mostly due to her age and blonde hair color. But a simple dye job has at least taken care of the latter problem.

Is this the image of Katniss on the big screen you had in mind, readers?

Make no mistake: Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence is not just a pretty face.

But also make no mistake: She has a very pretty face, among other attributes.

Wearing a sexy Chloe two-piece and D&G sandals, the 20-year-old actress shows off her enviable bikini body in GQ's May issue. Take a look:

"There are a lot of young American actors now who haven't got technique," Matthew Vaughn, who directed her in this summer's X-Men: First Class, tells GQ.

"And to be blunt, a lot of these kids assume that just by having a good set of teeth and tits, smiling for the camera's enough. I need someone who can act."

He got that and then some in Lawrence.

The Oscar nominee for Winter's Bone will also appear in Jodie Foster's Mel Gibson vehicle The Beaver and play the lead of Katniss in The Hunger Games trilogy.

"She's got a set of balls on her," Vaughn says. Figuratively. Check out these Jennifer Lawrence pictures for a closer look at some of her more literal assets:

Jennifer Lawrence cannot WAIT to star in The Hunger Games.

The actress says that while she may not look much like the way Katniss Everdeen is described in the book series, she was a big fan long before she was cast as the character in the film adaptation and can't wait to bring her to life.

She hopes her own Hunger Games fanhood will help, as well. "The cool thing about Katniss is that every fan has such a personal relationship with her, they know and understand her in a singular way," she says. "I'm a massive fan, so I get it."

Director Gary Ross and author Suzanne Collins have spoken out in defense of casting Lawrence as Katniss, despite the perceived physical differences.

"She's incredibly powerful, brave, and tough, and yet she has great tenderness and complexity," says Jennifer, who earned an Oscar nod for Winter's Bone. "It was very humbling hearing that Suzanne and Gary feel I embody those traits."

Other traits she says she embodies? Grittiness and toughness:

"I was a cheerleader for six years, but I have a totally competitive side. I'll wrestle anyone at any time. I was the manliest cheerleader. I had the lowest voice."

The Twilight Saga just started filming its final two movies. Harry Potter and company will say goodbye this fall.

Don't worry, though, there's a new movie franchise on the way to take the place of these iconic adventures: The Hunger Games, the first book in a trilogy about young men and women who fight to the death in front of a worldwide audience, will hit the big screen next year.

Casting is underway for this sci-fi, futuristic thriller, with fans chiming in on their ideal choice for the story's heroine, Katniss Everdeen. The leading contender, according to E! News and other sources? Jennifer Lawrence.
