Jennifer Hudson doesn't merely cover the latest issue of Good Housekeeping - the Oscar winner looks darn good while doing so!

The former American Idol finalist has incredibly lost 80 pounds, and she says her son doesn't even recognize his own mother when looking at photos or clips of her former self.

“What’s funny is that he’s never known me overweight," Hudson tells the magazine. "If he sees a clip of the old Jennifer from Dreamgirls, he doesn’t know who it is.”

Hudson says she doesn't torture herself to remain skinny, though. One has to cheat to maintain sanity.

“I’ll find a calm, peaceful moment, and I’ll sit back and eat my chocolate, which I make sure is really good quality, too," she says, adding this piece of advice: "Quality over quantity!”

Jennifer Hudson has kept mostly quiet about the tragic shootings that took the lives of her mother, nephew and her brother in 2008.

But the singer reveals a fascinating nugget in the latest issue of Ebony: she was very close being in the same house as them when the incident took place.

Turns out, fiance David Otunga called Hudson to come down and spend time with him in Florida prior to the day in question.

"I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here," Jennifer says. "I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now. But I didn't know. He was just like, 'I'm going to this wrestling thing, and it's in Tampa. I'm going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.'"

Otunga is the father of Hudson's two-year old son. Regarding the deaths of her relatives, this Oscar winner says the entire event remains a "surreal blur." That's certainly understandable.

While Christina Aguilera made like The King of Pop at the Michael Forever tribute concert in Cardiff, Wales last night, former American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson did not attend the event - and her absence is raising a few questions this morning.

According to a Hudson Tweet on Saturday afternoon, she said "major production issues" would prevent her from performing, while a rep for the artist tells TMZ producers were made aware ahead of time and "completely understood."

However, other sources tell the site the complete opposite. They claim Hudson shocked organizers by her no-show and, to make matters worse/more controversial, she was paid in full ahead of time for the gig.

Those who did play a role in the tribute, meanwhile, included Ne-Yo, LaToya Jackson, Leona Lewis, Cee Lo Green, Gladys Knight, Beyonce (via satellite) and Jamie Foxx, who served as host.

It's a day of celebration for a number of singers, comedians, actors and models today.

But let's start with Jennifer Hudson. The former American Idol finalist is now 30, celebrating the milestone during a year in which she released a new album and added to her resume: aside from being a successful singer and actress, Hudson will become an author in the near future, penning a memoir about weight loss.

“This is the first time that I’ve had the chance to dance,” Hudson said. “It was probably the part I anticipated the most and I actually had a lot of fun. I thought I accomplished it. You be the judge.”

Jennifer Hudson was hospitalized in New York earlier today after suffering abdominal pains. She had just performed on Good Morning America.

As part of GMA's Summer Concert Series in Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield, the Oscar winner was promoting her second album, I Remember Me.

A second live appearance slated for today - on CBS' Early Show - was nixed because of the singer's condition, which is hopefully stable.

We'll have updates for you when information becomes public.

Here's wishing Jennifer Hudson a speedy recovery.

UPDATE: Hudson's rep says, "After performing on Good Morning America earlier today, Jennifer Hudson went to the hospital due to severe abdominal pains."

Luckily, the rep adds, "She was treated for food poisoning and released.”
