Jennifer Hudson is a former American Idol star AND Oscar winner. No one else on the planet can make that claim. Granted American Idol has only been around six years or so, but no matter. It's still pretty impressive, yo!
Post-Idol, she went on to star as Effie White in the 2006 movie adaptation of Dreamgirls, for which she won numerous awards including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA and a SAG Award.
Hudson is engaged to David Otunga, who is known as "Punk" from I Love New York 2. He proposed on Hudson's 27th birthday even though they had been dating for less than a year.
In October 2008, Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason, were shot and killed inside Donerson's home in Chicago. Police are investigating the grisly killings and our heart goes out to the singer.
Hudson has one son and announced another child on the way in late 2009.
