If NBC was aiming to create headlines with its hiring of Howard Stern as a judge on America's Got Talent, the network can consider its mission accomplished.

Of course, not all headlines are positive, especially not that highlighted by the always-grumpy Parents Television Council.

Referring to Stern as Stern in a statement as "a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity," the PTC added:

"The once-proud broadcast network has lost its way and has made it clear it holds no concern whatsoever for children and families... Not coincidentally, in just over three weeks the network will be standing before the United States Supreme Court arguing for the right to use the F-word at any time of the day, even in front of children."

What do you think of Stern's hiring? Will he make for an acceptable judge?

America has talent, and a new reality show judge.

Following weeks of chatter, controversial radio host Howard Stern has officially been hired by NBC and will join the panel on America's Got Talent this summer.

“Howard Stern’s larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America’s Got Talent starting this summer,” said NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy. “He’s a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success.”

A spot opened up for Stern - who had also been considered for American Idol after Simon Cowell exited - after Piers Morgan dropped out, meaning he'll sit alongside Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandell on the upcoming season. Should be interesting, that's for sure.

Goodbye, Piers. Hello, Howard?

A day after Piers Morgan resigned his post as a judge on America's Got Talent, The Wall Street Journal reports that radio icon Howard Stern is under consideration for the gig.

Stern - who expressed interest awhile back in replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol - would reportedly sign a deal for $15 million per year, while continuing to host his Sirius XM show in New York, a fact that might necessitate NBC moving the AGT studio across the country.

Howard Stern Talk Show Appearance

The pros of Stern coming on board America's Got Talent? He's very popular and outspoken. He would certainly bring a fresh voice to to the show. Among the cons? Let's just say we may see an increase in lesbian acts on stage.

Do you think Howard Stern would be a good fit on America's Got Talent?

Tony Bennett appeared on Howard Stern's radio show yesterday to promote his new album, Duets II.

But the talk turned to 9/11 after the iconic singer said he met President George W. Bush, who told him personally that going into Iraq was a "mistake." Stern wondered whether America had a choice, which promoted Bennett to respond:

"But who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? Two wrongs don't make a right... They flew the plane in, but we caused it because we were bombing them and they told us to stop."

Andy Dick may have hit a new low, which is saying something.

The alleged comedian went off on an anti-Semitic rant this week, railing against Howard Stern of all people while visiting the Greg Fitzsimmons Show.

So what exactly did Dick say? You really won't believe it.

On Fitzsimmons' show, Dick spewed that the radio legend was a "shallow, money-grubbing Jew" with a "big fat hook nose." Yup, that's verbatim.

Dick's vitriol apparently stemmed from Stern not going to bat for him when his own Sirius satellite radio show was canceled a few years back.

"For two years I did the show, never got a cent, and I'm not complaining about that. I'm just saying the Jew facts. I never got paid," Dick said. "I have no problem with his big, fat, hook nose, and his money-grubbing miserly Jewishness."

Stern, as you might expect, was not thrilled ...

Recovering comedian Artie Lange said he would give anything to get his job back on the Howard Stern Show. He has not, however, asked Howard about it.

Lange left the show in early 2010 after a sudden hospitalization. He later went to rehab to get his alcoholism under control, but is reportedly better now.

Stern discussed Artie this morning, saying Lange's comments "stirred up a whole bunch of conversation that I don't even know how to begin to address."

Asked if Artie ever personally approached Howard to ask for his job back, Howard replied, "No, but I think he would if he could get a hold of me."

As for Artie's possible return to radio with a new show, Howard said, "Of course I support it. I think it would be great. I'd like to listen to Artie."

Howard, whose show Lange was a fixture on for years, added, "I'm glad to hear he's feeling better ... I'm pulling for him. I hope he does okay."

Because the entire Anthony Weiner ordeal wasn't wild and weird enough...

During the former Congressman's resignation press conference last week, Benjy Bronk - an employee of Howard Stern - heckled the disgraced politician, asking questions such as: "Are you more than seven inches? Will you maintain your hot physique and smooth sexy chest?"

Jesse James is singing the praises of his fiancee ... which is nice.

Except for the fact that it's sort of at the expense of his ex-wife. Guess he was serious when he said he's done worrying about Sandra Bullock.

Set to wed Kat Von D this year, in what will be his fourth marriage, James isn't afraid to compare his future wife to his scorned, former spouse.

Jesse and Kat

In an interview on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show Thursday, James was asked: "So who's more fun in bed? Sandra Bullock or Kat Von D?"

"That one's an easy no-brainer," James replied.

"Kat von D?" Stern asked. "Yes, sir. 100 percent. She's a vixen," James said of Kat. "The way she gets in my head and how she makes me feel."

"It's a mental thing," James gushed of sex with his bride-to-be, who stars on TLC's LA Ink. "We're just connected on a whole different level."

James freely admits that he betrayed Sandra Bullock, but confessed to Stern that he never felt all that secure with the Oscar winner at all.

Howard Stern is a lot more than a man who loves boobs and hates Jay Leno.

He's also a divorcee who tells Rolling Stone this month how much he suffered following his split from his first wife, Alison Burns.

"I was upset that I failed and let down my family, my kids, my ex-wife. It was all very painful," Stern says. "I was totally neurotic... I knew things weren't right, and I said, 'Gee, where am I going to get some answers?'"

Stern turned to random sex once he was single. He explains:

"I was running around, picking up women. Then all of the sudden, it dawned on me that I really didn't need that much sex. I just wanted somebody with me ever minute. I was using women as a surrogate mother. When I tapped into that, it suddenly became very childish behavior."

Howard Stern loves women with large breasts and little personality, so it should come as no surprise that he's coming to the defense of Kim Kardashian.

Earlier this week, the reality star was called on stage by Prince during a concert at Madison Square Garden. She proceeded to freeze, stand around like a mannequin and get dismissed from the spotlight.

But Stern, a fan of Prince as an artist, blames the musician for this embarrassing incident.

"Apparently she's supposed to dance like a stripper for him and she just stood there not knowing what to do," Stern said on his radio show yesterday. "He throws her off the stage because she can't read f--king Prince's mind. He's a bulls--t artist. I'm done with him."

Concluding by labeling Prince as a "scumbag," Stern said "he seems to be an arrogant asshole lately."

That may be true, but let's remember: Courteney Cox has a career because Bruce Springstein summoned her to the stage during a performance of "Dancing in the Dark." Kim could have shown the world a spontaneous, fun-loving side if she had responded in similar fashion to this sitcom star.

Instead, treating the opportunity like a professional athlete, she blew it.
