Hillary Rodham Clinton, often referred to as simply Hillary Clinton, is a lawyer, the former First Lady, a member of the U.S. Senate representing New York State and a leading Democratic candidate for the presidency in 2008.
She served as First Lady under the 42nd presidency of her husband, Bill Clinton, from January 1993-2001.
Early on Hillary Clinton led most polls, but faced a stiffer challenge - in the form of Barack Obama - than many anticipated she would.
