Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin might be making us sick with their snooty talk about "conscious uncoupling," but it turns out the famous couple may be involved in a down-and-dirty divorce, just like how us peasants do it.

Sources close to the couple tell TMZ that Chris and Gwyneth are indeed splitting amicably, but not for the reasons they've claimed.

Turns out the couple is terrified of having its dirty laundry aired in public and both parties are worried that if they fight over money or custody court documents could end up in the tabloids.

So what kind of secrets are they concealing? Well, for starters, Gwyneth's affair with Donovan Leitch and Chris' relationship with Alexa Chung are still just the subject of rumor and could seriously damage the couples' reputations if the affairs were confirmed in court.

We can only guess as to what else the Martin-Paltrows could be hiding, because Gwinnie is notoriously protective of her public image and will likely stop at nothing to keep her ugly side as private as possible.

For someone who hasn't done anything truly objectionable, Gwyneth Paltrow seems like she's on a quest to become the most loathed star on the web.

Seriously. Justin Bieber is a punk who gets arrested and sued every week, and Chris Brown beat Rihanna into a coma, yet they have more fans than she.

Paltrow, who announced her conscious uncoupling from Chris Martin last week, was swiftly mocked for her seemingly new-agey, elitist take on divorce.

Now, she's raising more eyebrows and inspiring even more ridicule thanks to an interview with E! in which she laments her struggles as a working mom.

"It’s much harder for me. I feel like I set it up in a way that makes it difficult because ... for me, like if I miss a school run, they are like, ‘Where were you?’" she says.

"I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening."

"When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult."

"I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set," Gwyneth went on, without irony.

Yeah.

One bird, three meals and some deep gratitude.

Three days after Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin split, the actress offered all of the above in breaking her silence via her Goop lifestyle website.

In an online journal post about chicken dinners, she added a sweet but simple postscript: "P.S. CM and I in deep gratitude for the support of so many."

Paltrow, 41, and Martin, 37, surprisingly announced on Tuesday that they decided to part ways, or, as it has come to be known, "consciously uncouple."

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin said in a statement, also appearing on Goop.

"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us," they said.

Unfortunately, after that period of self-reflection, "we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

As you've likely heard by now, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are divorcing, but prefer to use terms like "conscious uncoupling," because, well, they're obnoxious.

While the rest of us may find Chris and Gwyneth's pretentiousness completely nauseating, they have at least one celeb defending their actions.

Cameron Diaz told Extra recently that she's "proud" of her bestie's breakup, adding that she loves the douchey terminology that Gwyneth's been using to describe the split.

"People go separate ways in other aspects of their life and I think it's really brave of them to phrase it that way," Cameron said.

"Leaving as a couple and deciding to stay together as parents and friends - I think it's beautiful."

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has vowed to live as a "recluse" for the next six months following her split from husband Chris Martin, according to a new report.

The 41-year-old is determined to stay out of the public eye for at least half a year as she comes to terms with the inevitable, but still painful conscious uncoupling.

The star, who was pictured embracing former boyfriend Donovan Leitch months before her separation, is considering pulling out of any acting and promotional work.

Her focus is helping her children, Apple, 9, and 7, seven, deal with the situation.

A source said that Gwyneth has been "rocked," in particular, by the fact that "her friendships with men are being cited as possible causes for their split."

As a result, ''She has told her people she wants to retreat from any public life for six months and live as a recluse. Her focus is her kids as they face the trauma."

Why did Gwyneth Paltrow split from Chris Martin?

Because she was cheating with Donovan Leitch? Maybe. Because he was cheating with Alexa Chung? Perhaps.

But it likely wasn't a single event that led to this Conscious Uncoupling, which was announced (and subsequently mocked) on Gwyneth's GOOP website Tuesday night.

As you can tell via the following set of Gwyneth Paltrow quotes, the end has been coming for many years now.

These aren't exactly the words of someone totally in love and/or in a stable relationship, are they? Nor is this the look of soulmates who get lost in each other's eyes on a nightly basis...

It's not easy.

We've gone through some terrible times where it's been really, really hard, but I've sort of come through those times with a much deeper understanding of myself. And we're still married. We worked through it. I think it's easier to get divorced. But I think the more you keep at it, the more you end up seeing the value in it. But man, sometimes it is not easy.

Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted kissing former flame Donovan Leitch in September 2013, six months before she and her husband Chris Martin called it quits.

Leaning in at an L.A. Dodgers game, a makeup-free and dressed-down Paltrow, 41, gave Leitch, 47, what appears to be a friendly kiss on the lips.

The British actor wrapped his arm around her neck as Paltrow and Martin's daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7, sat next to them in the front row.

The GOOP blogger and Donovan Leitch go way back. They dated in the early '90s, prior to her high-profile romances with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who met at a Coldplay concert in 2002, tied the knot the following year. They split this week after 10 years.

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," the new-age pair wrote in a statement announcing their "conscious uncoupling."

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who shocked fans with their separation last night, say they are just consciously uncoupling ... whatever that means.

In a statement on Paltrow's website Goop (which crashed due to the onslaught of traffic), they jointly announced plans to "consciously uncouple."

"In many ways we are closer than we have ever been," they say, but have concluded that "while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

It all sounds very amiable ... but what is conscious uncoupling?

While Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are very free-spirited, it's difficult to take this statement seriously. You're divorcing. Stop trying to sugar coat it.

Paltrow shared a 2,000-word article by Dr. Habib Sadeghi and Dr. Sherry Sami that spells out what they're doing with their oh-so enlightened lives.
