On more than one occasion, we've cited the awesomeness of Angelina Jolie, due to her humanitarian efforts around the world.

But George Clooney reminded us this week that Angelina isn't the only gorgeous, talented star that uses her fame, money and influence for good.

A Clooney Close Up

The Oscar winner arrived in Southern Sudan a couple days ago in anticipation of a vote for the country's independence and, unfortunately, a possible civil war. "If you knew a tsunami, or Katrina or a Haiti earthquake was coming, what would you do to save people?" Clooney asked.

Journalist Ann Curry is accompanying Clooney through a region west of Darfur, a place rarely seen by foreigners.

While Elisabetta Canalis is at the center of a cocaine and prostitution scandal, the gorgeous Italian model often finds herself answering questions about nothing but her year-long relationship with George Clooney.

Simply put, "there are some people who just don't want to see me happy," Canalis says in the new Italian Vanity Fair.

On the Red Carpet

Such criticism causes the aspiring actress - she recurs on TNT's Leverage as a character referred to as "The Italian Woman" - to feel insecure at times, but Clooney never fails to make his feelings clear.

"If you are loved then you always feel great," she said. "[George] reassures me all the time. He is very close. I feel more embraced than ever before."

Adding that Clooney has "given color back to my life," Canalis said she doesn't understand why so many seem so jealous of her relationship. (THG note: We know why. Just take a look at your boyfriend, Elisabetta.)

''I know some women, very high profile women, who have taken his picture off their computer desktop," she says. "Maybe I should not get so stressed over it. At the end though the best way to confront this envy is to be happy, but it's just that they won't forgive."

George Clooney already has an Oscar under his handsome belt.

But we have a feeling the Emmy Award he's been assured of will mean more.

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler

Earlier today, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced it will present the charitable actor with its Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at this year's ceremony on August 29.

Citing Clooney's efforts as the head of Hope for Haiti, as well as his fundraising for victims of Hurricane Katrina and his involvement with Darfur, John Shaffner - chairman and chief executive of the TV academy -  said this was "an obvious choice."

We agree.

As for the list of actual 2010 Emmy Award nominations, you can check that out NOW.

It's the age-old question: What do you get a man that has everything?

Perfect case in point: George Clooney.

The actor is immensely popular, cool and rich. He's dating a gorgeous model named Elisabetta Canalis. She's very pretty and has been dating Clooney since July 2009.

So, what can we do for the star, who turns 49 today?

Simply wish him happiness and good health. We can also ask readers to submit their best wishes, along with thoughts on what you'd do to Clooney if ever alone in a room with him. Just try to keep them safe for work...

George Clooney was shut out at the Academy Awards last night, as he lost to Jeff Bridges for Best Actor and Up in the Air was defeated by The Hurt Locker in the Best Picture category.

But it's been an even worse run lately for Saddam Hussein. The former dictator of Iraq was ousted from power in April 2003 and killed by his former country in December 2006.

Still, somehow, Saddam showed up at the Oscars and... sorry. We're being told the gentleman posing alongside Clooney below is actually actor Antonio Banderas, not Saddam Hussein.

Our mistake.

One minute, they're considering a family.

The next, their relationship is "doomed to fail," reports state.

Such is the tumultuous world inhibited by Elisabetta Canalis and George Clooney, at least according to The National Enquirer. Indeed, while every other tabloid on the planet invents rumors about a Brangelina break-up, this newspaper creates stories about the Oscar-nominated star and his Italian girlfriend.

The latest? Canalis is crazy with jealousy!

"Elisabetta gets very possessive when George pays too much attention to another woman," an anonymous friend said. "When other women get too close to him, she always slips her hand around his arm as if to say, 'He's mine!'"

For example, Elisabetta was supposedly full of rage at last month's Golden Globes when Julianna Margulies stopped to hug Clooney on her way to the stage.

The discontent allegedly continued at a party after the event, as "Elisabetta bristled at the parade of women who were very affectionate with kisses... and the fact that George enjoyed the attention."

This insider adds that Clooney is merely friends with these female acquaintances, and Canalis is risking her relationship by taking issue with his interactions. Actually, that's not exactly how the source put it. He said:

"George is very comfortable with Elisabetta, but if she starts rocking his boat regarding his friendships with women, she'll find herself walking the plank."

That doesn't sound like a made-up quote at all, does it?

Last night's TV lineup was notable for two reasons: Conan's last show, and far more significantly, the Hope For Haiti Now Telethon for earthquake relief funds.

The mood was subdued, yet the underlying force of A-list stars was a force to be reckoned with. No one was more instrumental in this than George Clooney.

The actor spent a week pulling together the two-hour Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, and donated $1 million of his own money.

Anderson Cooper's dispatches from the earthquake-torn nation and Wyclef Jean's closing message of hope for his fellow Haitians were particularly moving.

You don't often see phone banks manned by the likes of Charlize Theron, Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Ben Affleck, Sigourney Weaver, Ringo Starr and Jack Nicholson - to name a select few.

Did we mention Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Simmons, Zac Efron, Billy Crystal, Gerard Butler, Neil Patrick Harris, LL Cool J and Selena Gomez were also there?

We could go on for hours about this event, which raised tens of millions for a good cause. Click to enlarge some images from our Hope For Haiti Now album:

According to sources, George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis are "more in love than ever."

Does this mean they'll be walking down the aisle soon? It's unlikely. But rumors are swirling that Clooney might plant his handsome seed inside the Italian model.

"George has done a complete 180 on starting a family," a friend told The National Enquirer. "He's still not a huge fan of the institution of marriage, but Elisabetta has made him rethink having children and settling down."

Over the holidays, Canalis allegedly joked she wanted a baby for Christmas. Clooney's reply? Be careful what she wished for.

"They're both incredibly happy and I certainly could see them having a baby in the next year," the source said.

Before then, of course, the actor has other important responsibilities: he's hosting this Friday night's telethon, which is bringing celebrities together in honor of earthquake victims in Haiti.

Stripper scandal? What stripper scandal?!?

At last night's Golden Globe Awards, Fergie and Josh Duhamel did not look like a couple that was worried about accusations that he cheated on her with a talkative pole dancer.

Instead, they simply looked happy, in love and gorgeous.

However, the pair recently dubbed "Durgie" better put its game face on. Fergie and Josh have a difficult task ahead of them: knocking off George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis in this awards ceremony showdown. May the best-looking twosome win!
