Let's hope the 27th year of Fantasia Barrino's life is better than her 26th.

Over the past few months, the former American Idol champion has been sued for wrecking a woman's home, and forced to admit in court that she aborted her lover's baby.

But the singer also returned to the Idol stage in April and is doing all she can to put her career back on track. We encourage readers to submit their birthday wishes to the artist and help her continue to do so.

Other stars celebrating a birthday today include: Michael Phelps (26), Cheryl Cole (28) and Mike Tyson (45).

American Idol sent two contestants home last night, as it was the end of the singing line for Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia.

But the sad news for fans of those finalists was pre-empted by by a couple of entertaining performances.

First, Fantasia Barrino returned to the stage that made her famous and got the crowd on its feet for a rendition of "Collard Greens & Cornbread," giving a shout-out to Steven Tyler near the end of it. What do you think of this single? Give it a listen here:

Also, Jamie Foxx and will.i.am teamed up. They got down with a drum line and a series of dancers and introduced the world to "Hot Wings," their song off the Rio soundtrack. Check out the elaborate performance below.

Free from any legal worries, Fantasia Barrino is setting her sights on the next step of her career: movie stardom.

The former American Idol champion has signed on to portray Mahalia Jackson on the big screen, a real-life, late American gospel singer and civil rights advocate.

It's Fantasia!

Jackson rose from poverty in New Orleans to a successful career as a gospel artist. She was a well-known, ardent supporter of Martin Luther King, Jr, and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She died  1982.

Fantasia won't be the first American Idol finalist to attempt a transition to movies. It's gone rather well for Jennifer Hudson, wouldn't you say?

Fantasia Barrino is not a homewrecker.

This is not just a random, uneducated opinion. This is an actual ruling for a North Carolina judge.

Derek Lowe Mug Shot

As part of Antwaun Cook's divorce proceedings in North Carolina this week - the same trial that recently forced Fantasia to admit she aborted her lover's baby - a judge found that Antwaun and Paula Cook separated on September 14, 2009.

Paula had claimed the date was June 2010, which prompted accusations of Fantasia stealing her man and possibly even a lawsuit under North Carolina’s unusual Alienation of Affection law.

While there's no official word on future legal proceedings yet, it's hard to imagine Paula having any case against Fantasia in light of this ruling.

Barrino may now return to her tour, which wraps up New Year's Day in St. Louis.

Fantasia Barrino may possess an incredible voice, but she's known more for her scandal-filled personal life than anything else these days.

The latest bombshell to drop from this former American Idol champion arrives courtesy of her recent court testimony, as Fantastia was a witness in boyfriend Antwaun Cook's divorce proceedings against ex-wife Paula yesterday.

Under oath, Barrino reportedly stated she got pregnant by Cook and had an abortion.

In August, Cook admitted he had been sleeping with the singer, but said Fantasia was unaware he was still married.

That was the focus of a line of questioning in front of a Mecklenburg County Court judge yesterday, as Paula Cook's attorney pressed Barrino on whether or not she knew her boyfriend was still living with his wife during their relationship.

Whether you believe Fantasia Barrino truly wanted to take her own life a few weeks ago, or merely popped a few pills in a PR stunt, one thing is certain: the singer is troubled and has been through a difficult year.

But she'll try to end it on a positive note, as the American Idol champion has announced a fall/winter tour. It will be titled "Back to Me," commence November 4 in Richmond and conclude on New Year's Day in St. Louis.

In the end, nudity won out over tragedy.

Both Katy Perry and Fantasia Barrino debuted new albums last week, with the former's "Teenage Dream" selling 192,000 copies to take first place on the charts; Fantasia's "Back to Me" came in second with 117,000 copies sold.

Perry promoted her CD by hosting the Teen Choice Awards, stripping down to her lingerie in Rolling Stone and posing naked on her album cover.

Fantasia, conversely, was in the news for dating a married man, trying to kill herself and then rebounding to perform in Las Vegas and send a message to her haters.

Take notice, haters: Fantasia Barrino is back!

The former American Idol champion, who swears she really was trying to commit suicide a few weeks ago, hasn't just recovered in time to give multiple interviews on the overdose days before the release of her new album.

She also feels good enough to perform an impromptu concert for fans in Las Vegas.

Fantasia in Vegas

That's exactly what happened Friday night at the Palms Hotel, as Fantasia surprised attendees at Rain nightclub and took to the stage. She announced to the crowd:

"They thought I was finished, they thought I was done. I would never ever stop, I don't care what no one says."

While Fantasia Barrino is out making the media rounds, promoting her new album and explaining her suicide attempt, she may also be having cravings for sushi.

That's because a report in The National Enquirer says the singer is pregnant. The baby daddy? Her married boyfriend Antwaun Cook.

Rocking the Palms

Insiders tell the tabloids that this is what Fantasia has wanted all along. It will ensure she'll end up with the man at the center of a divorce and sex tape scandal.

“She’s about three months along, and it’s definitely Antwaun’s baby,” a family friend says. “Right now she can’t show how happy she is in public - but she’s absolutely thrilled. Fantasia got what she wanted. She feels Antwaun will have to marry her now.”

Less than two weeks after she was hospitalized for a pill overdose, Fantasia Barrino is not in therapy or rehab.

Instead, she's in front of the camera, explaining the reasons behind her suicide attempt ("I just wanted out," she tells VH1) and, of course, promoting the new album that just came out.

In an interview with ABC's Good Morning America today, the singer said was asked about the troubling incident and replied:

"I think I was just overloaded with everything, with carrying six years of so much. I always take a licking and keep on ticking... it just became heavy for me to the point that I just wanted to be away from the noise... There's so much that people don't understand. They just see the glitz and the glamour, and they feel like life is so perfect, but we're human and we go through things."

The main things these days have been an exposed affair with Antwaun Cook and a possibly pending lawsuit from his wife, Paula.

But Fantasia insists this relationship was NOT the reason she aimed to take her life on August 9.

"I think everybody feels like I tried to harm myself over a man, but you know I've been in a lot of bad relationships," she said. "I think that had somewhat to do with it because it was so heavy, it was brand new information, I was already going through so much.

"But I think it was just six years of everything, of me holding all that stuff on the inside and not letting it out... I got very, very tired."

She's not too tired to talk up her CD, "Back to Me," or star in a reality show that premieres on September 19, however. Such a confluence of events and publicity has many wondering just how authentic Barrino's actions have been over the past few weeks.

We'll leave readers to debate that topic. Below, you can watch Fantasia's entire interview on ABC and form an opinion.
